I always learn something new and profound from Sinclair Ferguson.

Keller said he is reading disaffected secularists like Terry Eagleton, Thomas Nagel, and John Gray, but that he wouldn't recommend them to young Christians. He said young Christians should instead be reading someone like Bavinck. Keller didn't make other recommendations.
Sinclair Ferguson recommended an old work The Life of Alexander Duff, a Scottish missionary. Ferguson went on to say he'd recommend seminaries make a course on missionary biographies. Ferguson also recommended biographies and autobiographies of obscure pastors like Samuel Rutherford and Samuel Boston (cf. Don Carson's Memoirs of an Ordinary Pastor). In the end, Ferguson said, what matters is not where you are, but who you become (where you are).

I love Sinclair Ferguson he is so grounded on the Word and so humble and desires to be where he feels the Lord desires him to serve no matter how out of the way it is or in the midst of so much unbelief. I have found in the last years my self navigating back to the old saints who have served so well and died with their character in tact and their faith so firm.

Keller could have been more helpful by recommending authors which are good no matter which stage of spiritual maturity you're in.
