  • In July this summer no 616 was visiting the Norwegian Railway Museum at Hamar.
The locomotive belongs to the museum and is used for special trains.
Twice a week it was started to the delight of the visitors to the museum.
The museum enjoys a beautiful location by lake Mjøsa, north of Hamar town centre. In addition to modern, indoor exhibitions, the museum has a large museum park featuring various railway buildings and track systems. During summer, a narrow-gauge train operates in the park.
The main building comprises a large library with railway literature and a photo collection.

I’m happy that you shared appreciation for this locomotive. In my career with the railway in the US and Canada, early in my career EMD-GM products of this vintage were still common on the major lines. I have logged hundreds of hours at their throttles. The engineering which went into these is still unsurpassed, based on the time tested reliability. Another aspect of my appreciation is that in the era they were built, my family had several GM employees. They didn’t work at EMD, but GM Hyatt-New Departure Bearing Division. Therefore my relatives’ work went into building EMD locomotives.
