Although depressing, Alien 3 has amazing moments and it's very emotional but love the first 2 more
I've always loved Alien 3. I saw it opening day when I was 11 and it was an unforgettable experience. I'd argue it's even better than the original in many ways. Aliens is a masterwork though. Alien 3 is a very dark and depressing downer of a film that deals with some very uncomfortable themes so I can understand it not being for everyone. I can vividly recall how I felt when I first saw the film, similar to feeling like I was at a funeral of a loved one for 2 hours. Not a pleasant feeling obviously but a very rich and potent one. Hating it because of the killing off of Newt and Hicks is one thing I'll never understand though. I love Newt and Hicks and I thought it was a brilliant, bold decision that masterfully sets the nightmarish tone for the rest of the film. One aspect that doesn't get mentioned often enough is Elliott Goldenthal's hauntingly beautiful score.
I'm not surprised Siskel didn't like Alien 3 as he didn't even like the first 2.
Eh, glad you had a good childhood movie experience and all. I prefer it to Aliens, at least.
I unironically had fun with Encino Man.
Same here. Its a fun film.
DEAD CALM was the BEST movie that Gene And Roger discussed on this episode of Siskel and Ebert,At The Movies/Sneak Previews.
dead calm is very suspenseful.
Alien 3 is such an underestimated movie, especially the director's cut. Such a great and dark atmosphere, music and a personal story line of Ripley has finally come to its great and emotional end.
Let me get this straight, Roger hated Sister Act but defended with passion Cop and a Half? Agh.
I absolutely love Sister Act, S&E took it too seriously, this movie’s cute and sweet and I give it two thumbs up, way up!
I have mixed feelings on Alien 3. Sometimes when I watch the series, I might enjoy it (I watch the Assembly Cut), other times, I might hate it, or at least dislike it. It has a lot of great things in it, but it is also very problematic.
I have come to appreciate the art direction and the fact Fincher was able to craft something technically polished in spite of all the problems. My main issue with the movie is that it's not scary. Like at all. Every time the alien appears they signal it's coming, like some 1950s Universal monster movie. There's no real tension or action in it -- it just kind of sits there. Plus the lame dispatching of all the Aliens supporting characters left a bad taste in my mouth it's never able to overcome. For me it doesn't work, but the documentary is great fun to watch, especially in how the finished movie is a hybrid of so many different screenplays and directors who were on the movie before it was made.
@@andyfilm5785 where can I see the documentary?
@@tannerbartko1203 There is a box set of all four Alien movies each with a disc describing how the movies were made. Alient III was a disaster, multiple writers, multiple directors, a huge mess as it was finally written on the fly during filming.
The Assembly Cut of Alien 3 is quite a lot better. It just feels like a much more complete film compared to the theatrical version.
Alien 3-Assembly Cut 2 &1/2 hours is an Immersive Masterpiece!
Wreckage & Rage:The Making Of Alien 3 is also a must watch!
My fave Alien film:)
god I hated hated hated hated that movie....no one bothered to watch part #2 before they wrote the sequel
A lady on the internet once said Aliens is not about cosmic horror or capitalism or birth trauma or any of that stuff. Its about when you try to kill a bug in your house and it gets away.
i enjoyed far and away.
Bille August is from Denmark.
No one ever talks about Kidman but her career is amazing!
Oscar Winner and FOUR time nominee, but yeah, she’s flying under the radar.
Um, what ? Nicole Kidman ? Are you joking ?
This is what happens when you're selective about your work and the "radar," socalled, consists of superheroes, remakes, and nostalgia bait
If the protagonist dies, end your franchise. How difficult is that??
But muh munney
There is money to be made
We know
Really like Far & Away 👍🌟🌟🌟
Alien 3 is great. Aliens is a 10.0 of a film and Alien 1 is like a 9.7 and Alien 3 is like a 9.5
There are like 2 bad CGI shots of the Alien, and on first viewing there are like 18 bald skinny white guys so it is hard to tell anyone apart aside from Ripley and the 3 black guys. And the extended version is better.
Performances are great across the board, the scenario is threatening and unique, awesome soundtrack, besides those 2 cgi shots the special effects are magnificent and still hold up, amazingly well shot and directed.
Sister Act was written for Bette Midler.
No sh!t?! That's wild. I didn't know that!
I love Sister Act, such an awesome and sweet movie. One of my favorite comedies of all time.
Alien 3...a textbook example of what happens when you make a movie without a decent finished script.
or bother to watch the previous movies....hated hated Alien3
Alien 3 is great, you guys are crazy
Worst movie ever. Designed to enrage fans of the first 2 films.
Talk about getting it wrong- Sister Act was a great movie:). I don’t understand their off-base criticisms here.
#1 - Sci-Fi Horror
Like so many horror movies, there was a sole survivor.
Taut, scary, interesting and the science fiction still holds up 40+ years later.
#2 - Sci-Fi Action Adventure
The hero saves someone or the whole planet
Interesting story, great ending, sleazy bad guy representing sleazy company, plenty of referenced to the first movie, but with a high body count.
#3 - Sci-Fi-Religous-Horror
The hero is actually a christ figure who sacrifices herself for the good of all mankind. It turns to horror when you understand that we willl never win AND there is a soul survivor.
Alien foreshadows Alien 3.
Ash: You still don't understand what you're dealing with, do you? The perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility.
Lambert: You admire it.
Ash: I admire its purity. A survivor... unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality.
I admire them for following a dark storyline that does not have a happy ending and doesn't pull any punches.
Ironically Ebert was praising Aliens. But in his review, he gave it thumbs down.
At the 5:52 minute mark, This was so wrong when actor Gerry Bednob is taking the groceries away from Brendan Fraser. We will have Stoney (played by Pauly Shore) will come to Link's defense as he orders Kashmir which Gerry Bednob plays to give back the groceries back to Link. Kashmir said "no" that he is not going to give it back to Link. So why would he do that for? This had to be the worst movie scene of all-time. I was surprised that Ripley is upset that Andrews doesn't want to believe her that the alien was coming to kill. He orders them to put her back in her cell before the alien came in and killed him.
My reviews
Sister Act (two thumbs up)
Encino Man (two thumbs down)
Alien 3 (two thumbs down)
Far and Away (two thumbs up, way up)
Pauly Shore automatically ruins any film he's seen in. And if he's the star it will be absolutely horrid.
Which explains why A Goofy Movie escaped the Pauly Curse, since he only ever provides a voice and is summarily not seen 🥴
@@Dr170 I didnt watch the goofy movie cuz it looked terrible. but yeah if it made money its probably because they did not use Pauly Shore to promote it too much.
@@Shorty_LickensThey did use Pauly's voice for his character in the trailer. Which is literally cheesey as seen in the clip.
Have to agree. I can't think of any movie I've ever seen Pauly Shore in that was enjoyable or even, in many cases, endurable.
ALRIGHT, LOOK. I THINK WHOOPI GOLDBERG DID A GOOD J-O-B FROM "SISTER ACT: THE MOVIE," BY THE WAY.🙂👍✌️❤️🎥📀📼🇺🇲🍿 IT'S BEAUTIFUL.😊🙂👍✌️❤️😀😁😉 AND I ALSO LOVE THE PARAMOUNT 75th ANNIVERSARY OF "TOP GUN" WITH TOM CRUISE & KELLY McGILLIS
I like Sister Act.
Alien 3(1992) was not great, not..too bad. I guess we owe David Fincher an apology.
Sister Act is a great movie. The sequel was very disappointing:/.
Bit of a shame they missed the vote on Sister Act, I thought it was a really good film, i'll take Sister Act over the massively overrated Aladdin as far as 1992 is concerned.
Aladdin's actually worth going back and watching a few times, Sister Act is a drab early-90's movie through-and-through. BORING! Next to a masterwork of Animation?
Alien 3 definitely isn’t as good as the first 2 and honestly isn’t a great film. But they’re right. It is at least a interesting film to look at
alien 3 was a horrible film specially after aliens it was like a joke even fincher hated
I have to agree with Siskel and Ebert over the film's they've reviewed during the presence of the show. The four films presented for them, wern't that very good to sit through, even if the subject matters had the ambition to become stylish, but with little to no substance.
Sister Act: 👎1/2 a failed TV pilot, making Whoopi Goldberg sitting on a whoopee cushion to stink the whole film, with blasphemy and its nosediving Mafia plot. Easily one of the worst films of 1992.
Encino Man: 👎⭐ an asinine teen comedy that was desperately looking for laughs, as it was supposed to poke fun out of Iceman, but in a diabolical sense. Also one of the worst films of 1992.
Alien 3: 👎⭐⭐ a sequel that has the knowledge and practicality of production design and visual effects, but the energy of the story is in a turtle pace.
Far and Away: 👎⭐ a recoiled romantic drama, that words spoke louder than a megaphone, due to its horrendous chemistry between Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. The bare-knuckle boxing sub-plot made Triumph of the Spirit look like one of the greatest films ever made, as Tom Cruise's character in pursuing a boxing career was incapable at best. For the third time, it was one of the worst films of 1992.
Gee whiz, the summer of that year had many, many disingenuous and stupid films. And for the most part, it done good to great business for the film industry.
Don't be talking crap about Encino Man
Why not ? It's Paulie Shore.
@@ricardocantoral7672 it’s a funny movie 🎥
At least it isn't Bio-Dome.
