When I heard you weren't here anymore, it made me want to come back to these early videos (early videos to me, any way. I don't think I found SnakeBytes till 2015 or 2016). These vids were perfect for getting me through college with my sanity still intact 😂. Anyway, you're forever a part of my history as I learned to love reptiles even more than I did before I found this channel; rest in peace 🙏
I have honestly watched this particular episode daily for the past week; it's very informative and helpful but I watch this one mainly to see Chewy get bit, the king rat bit ALWAYS cracks me up. Keep it up guys
I really am grateful to you guys. I am usually not in a happy mood but when I found you guys on youtube, you have since then gave me a good laugh every time:)Since then I watch your show with a smile on my face. And for that I love you guys
One time I was at a zoo and they let people touch an octopus. They will grab you with their arms because they feel you out to see who you are. When it grabbed me with all 8 arms I was worried but the zoo handler said it's fine. When the octopus started pulling me close to its head where the mouth is and squirted ink, the handler flipped out and called all nearby members to help. Once the ink was squinted they knew it was in attack. It pulled my arm toward it's beak so aggressively and was the absolute most terrifying experience I think a 6 year old could go through lol.
Can you help me with my retic please? it was wild caught by my uncle a week ago and it's about 3 feet. I am having trouble grabbing it from behind because it is always curled up. I really want to tame it or it'll be given to the local zoo. please give me some tips. :)

Great vid. I got my daughter and son (12 & 11) to watch this one:) they are always a bit leary of handling mine. Once again.. Chew had us ROFL. Thanks guys!!
Satan is one big feisty snake, it's probably because I've never really handled snakes... But I would never go near that snake, something that big and that pissed all the time is no friend of mine haha!
Thank you for the tips! Luckily my two snakes have never even been moody towards me. I also never grab them behind the head for starters. I always put my hand just near them so that they can see that I am not attacking them, then if they are still calm, I gently pick them up about a third of their length from the tip of their tails and use both hands to gently support them so that they feel secure and safe. They always let me handle them and I never get bit. Just after I feed them in a feeding tank (I also put them there when I clean their enclosures) I either gently pick them up and quickly&gently transfer them straight back to their enclosure, or I gently tip the feeding tank (which isn't heavy) and let them go at their own pace until they are happily in their enclosures. No fuss, everyone is happy:)
What Brian said about handling snakes with confidence is very important. I used to work in the education department of a zoo, and they had two big black rat snakes that everybody was afraid to touch. They would go to grab them and the snake would rear up, and they would freeze... with their hands dangling over the snake's head! Of course, that illicits a strike, probably because, to the snake, it looks very similar to a mouse being offered. When I'd take them out, I would just reach right for them, right past their reared up front portion, and pick them right up, and I never even got struck at. I think it has less to do with them sensing fear and more to do with the fact that people tend to freeze when they detect standoffishness in a snake, which often means a hand dangling over the snake's head. If you feed your snake from tongs, you're essentially giving a feeding presentation, but with your hand in place of the rodent. Snakes learn verrrrry quickly the difference between feeding time and handling time. It's up to us as the keepers to make sure we aren't ambiguous in our approach.
When I was just a boy, we used to go to Michigan to visit my mothers parents on their farm. I used to look forward to this trip every year because of ALL OF THE SNAKES! I had no fear of handling any of the snakes I found due to complete ignorance of my own, but out of the hundreds that I played with I never got bit. I think it had to be from the complete confidence or fearlessness that I possessed at that time.
Excellent episode! Well, doesn't harm to add that snakes can actually be pushed to shedding in periods of specific hormonal change (relative to breeding, injury, etc) without having grown at all.
I got bit by my sons ball python she mistook me for a rodent at feeding time and if it wasn't for you guys at snakebytes tv on the tip of listerine I wouldn't of known what to do she certainly wrapped her coils around my wrist it really does work thankyou keep the cool vids coming .
The second Chewy came on with the his shirt saying "Warning Might do stupid things at any time." followed by him saying "Bibble babble bull$8!%" I lost it. Haha, keep the humor coming guys, the humor is a good way to educate the public that snakes arn't monsters like so heavily beleived. -Nate
Hi brian i watch your show on a weekly basis and i think what you and the gang do is not only educational which helps me take care of my reptiles but is also very fun to watch. i have just ventured into to the world of keeping boa's and a big concern for me is mites i have seen first hand in the reptile shop were i volunteer how much discomfort it causes these beautiful animals..is there any way of preventing mites? any advice would be truly appreciated...thank you stu from leeds uk
Question.. Do you think that Chewie acting like that to some of the snakes might antagonize them to continuously act like that? Was bit tonight for the first time in 4 years by my 6' Boa. First thing I wanted to do was pull back, but thankfully I didnt, b/c she had latched on. So I just had to wait until she let go. I know it was my fault as I was trying to get the rest of her shed off her before feeding time. She wasnt having any of that.
She is a redtail. It did hurt, but it would have been a lot worse if I jerked my hand away, plus I didnt want to break her teeth. So I just sat there and moaned a bit and my leg was just shaking uncontrollably LOL!!!!! I laughed it up after...
A couple of years ago when i was in my mountain property in colorado, i up-rooted a small tree to clear the way of a larger tree that i was going to cut down, and there was a nest of ground bees under the small tree and i was attacked. i now have a pretty bad fear of bees. Great show guys.
Hey BHB. You should invite me and my family up there to try and convince my mom to let me keep more snakes. I was told no snakes and brought home a baby sand boa. I love him so much and I really just want more snakes!
I would've loved seeing him handle sati, they snake is out of his level especially if he couldn't pick up the first three. I really love ur vids and ur snakes keep it up
One time I got attacked by a snake, I was walking home from school and I decided to stop into the forest to look for some mushrooms for science class. Anyway I am walking along and all of a sudden this snake falls from a tree and lands right on my shoulders, I freak out. I start running not knowing what hit me and as soon as I stop the snake bit me multiple times, I threw the snake off and ran to get help. I was in shock and ended up passing out on a neighbors lawn, they rush me to the hospital, I had awoken dazed and confused laying in a hospital bed. As I came too I recounted what had just occurred. Everything checked out and I was released, but the days following I had really strange symptoms and couldn't sleep at night. On the third night of NO sleep I had finally induced sleep... I then dreamn't that I was chosen to be part man, part snake and that I would be given special powers to effect this realm of reality. When I awoke, I felt renewed and joyous but when I went to look into the mirror I had to give a double look, my eyes!! They had changed colors, they use to be blue but know they were a dark yellow green and appeared to have the same pupils of snakes.. I freaked out and have never been the same since.
im really not scared of snakes after watching these videos for a couple of months! well, im still not in love with them, but i helped alot. It would be great if there was videos like these with spiders instead. but ill always hate spiders though. THANKS BRIAN. From a fan in Denmark, Europe.
I have two cats currently. I meant that comment more to put things in perspective. One's a shelter rescue and pretty shy. The other, Siamese. They cry while I'm trying to sleep, as they've learned after I get up is feeding time. The cats do not work for you, you work for them. You're warm and they like that, and physical stimulation--most cats, anyway. The "bringing back gifts they've hunted" thing is instinctual, as cats are territorial of their pack and home, not to please you with gifts.
I have a bull snake and he tends to get an attitude with me from time to time...My ball python Dahlia is a sweety, but Hebi is just an ass most times...Thanks for showing me this dude!
Okay, question. Boa vs. Python. Which species have you noticed to be the more calm? From what I've seen, the Pythons tend to be more prone to aggressive behavior in relation to Boas. Just asking for a breeder's point of view. My Boa has always been the most relaxed snake, and loves to be handled/cuddled.
Here is my horrific bite story. I have a Cali King named Ramses, and he is just a wee little baby. Of course his infant aggressive nature calls for a bite EVERY single time I go into pick him up and those two or three bites are the CUTEST thing ever. He talks such a big game :)
well, when i was 1, my dad had a chow chow. she was blind (i think) at the time. i played with her a bit, then she bit my face and ripped a ton of skin off! i still have a scar or two today, but not rly noticable.
I was attacked by a Red Kangaroo at my local Zoo when I was a young child, the animal sort of kicked me and scratched me very badly and I needed to get a few stitches,I was traumatized at the time and still will not get close to a kangaroo. P.S. I love the show and Reptiles. I want to go to school for Bio/Zoology with emphasis in Herp. I'd love to see more Colubrids in the show especially King morphs. Thanks guys , Happy Herping!
Brain i have a regular ball python and it is not moving around alot so what shoul i do and love the show oh ya how can i persuade my parents to let my get another snake
Okay new to the channel over the past day or so. Y'all should be wearing cups or at least chewy should. It seems like every time one of you guys go to handle the grumpier snakes , they go right for your nads. Chewy is historical. I'm the same way and he makes me feel like I can laugh at myself. Good stuff guys.
I was bitten by a pinon snake in New Mexico a couple years ago. My 3 year old cousin was playing by a tree one day and i had happened to see a snake near her my cousins hand. I ran and pushed her hand out of the way, I guess the sudden movement scared the snake, and that little guy latched on to me. i had to pull his teeth of my hand and i still have the scar. not too bad of a bite, but pulling it off was paibfull. Love the show!
My animal story is me getting myself bit by a golden retriever. I was 2 yrs. old and I hugged it too hard so he snapped and gave me a giant scar on my face. I had 13 stitches although it was my fault I learned a great lesson, be respectful to animals. Also, 14 yrs later, the scar is nearly gone. I love watching SnakeBytes :)
I want to ask that the green tree python in the video is a biak? because I want to buy a chondro, what will be as big as that in the video. it's beautiful :) please reply, it's really important for me :)
I think the most important thing said in this video was "handling with confidence"... that's the most important thing. The worst snake that bit me was a very aggressive albino red tail boa. The bite wasn't half as bad as she thought it would be!
Hey Brian! Im a huge fan of your show, i was wondering if you guys could make an Instagram! I love all your projects and you simply can upload pics any time. If you ever do pleeeaseee let me know!
I got bit by my newest corn it was in poor condition over its last owners and I took it off them and after 2 days of it being it its new enclosure I tried to handle it and it bit my about 4 times and I rang up the previous owners to see what he had been fed on and it was pinkies to a 5ft snake no wonder if bit me
Alright, I apologize for my last comment, it was unfair. You're on here watching the video so it's a good start to expanding your horizons. I grew up working on a farm with animals and currently work in a pet store-- I would love to answer any questions or concerns you have, cynical or not.
When I was about 8, my great-aunt's chow bit me in the face. Took out my entire left cheek, so I lost about 1/4 of my face that day lol. Was lucky though, it was just my cheek and not my nose and/or eye as well. Still love dogs to this day and I'll be 30 in a few months. In fact we just got a pit about a month ago, she's the sweetest dog we've ever had.
I got bit by a dog we rescued I have a scar on my head from where his tooth got me and on my hand where I was covering my face but he's a good dog now. He's alot calmer and more relaxed now:)
I was feeding pot belly pigs and there was a blind one, my arm was in front of her feeding another pig and she bit my arm thinking it was food. I was volunteering at a doggie daycare and was petting a boxer and a lab at the same time and the boxer became protective of me, lunged at the lab and my shoulder got in the way. I picked up a garter snake and she wasn't too pleased and turned around and bit my hand a couple times. :)
Are all your Borneo short tails and Blood pythons really that mean?? I'm looking into getting one, and am sorta discouraged by what I have heard about their disposition..
A healthy feeding schedule is once a week :) I personally feed my snakes every sunday and although there isn't a problem with feeding them mice, rats are generally better because they have more protein packed in them! Snakes can go a pretty long time without food so if your snake rejects a meal, it's no cause for alarm especially if the snake is about to shed (my snakes always reject meals when they're "in the blue") just offer them again the next feeding day :)
A few yrs back I had bought a baby carpet python from a friend because she was scared of him. He would bit at everything! lol My strategy of taking him out was to cup my hand over him real fast before he could strike. It seemed to work well with him and he grew up to b very calm and handle able by anyone. I also took him every where with me! I had a purs-bag I'd carry him in. Sometimes when he was little id put him in my ponytail and he'd wrap around it like a band. he also watch tv sometimes.
you wanted to know about bites taken from pets... I recently took my 1st hit from one of my venomous snakes, a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, luckily it was a pretty mild envenomation & I didn't even require any Crofab but it was still a pretty bad experience... similar to taking a hammer to the hand.. I've been keeping Rattlers & Copperheads for over 20yrs on & off & this was my 1st hit from something Hot... so I think I've had a good run other than this dumb mistake... I've been nailed by Nile Monitors & a number of other lizards & snakes in the past, Burmese & Carpet Pythons, along with Savanah Monitors & Cuban Knights, etc etc etc
Many years ago a guy I bought rats from was showing me a beautiful large (about10 foot) boa, and told me it had always been a very calm animal, and had never bitten anyone. He held it out toward me, and in the blink of an eye it hammered me dead on the mouth. It actually knocked me down, and got multiple teeth in both lips. It took 45 minutes to get the bleeding stopped. Except for that incident, it really did prove to be a very placid animal, and to my knowledge never struck at anyone again.
I was meeting macaws at a "bird sanctuary" to adopt one and the lady thought she was cute introducing me to a very "gentle" one so I could "get used to handling them." Well the first thing it did was bite down on my wrist. And boy did that suck! Lol (she was a bit nutty and really wanted to see how I'd react to being bit cuz I could see the look in her eyes that it was completely on purpose!) I had the exact imprint of the bird's beak on my wrist for weeks! It turned an array of different colors! It was ridiculous! They crack nuts w/o any aggression, so u can imagine what it did to my wrist.
If he walked.out of the door at 5:12 the cameraman would be in there with that snake alone. Lol
When I heard you weren't here anymore, it made me want to come back to these early videos (early videos to me, any way. I don't think I found SnakeBytes till 2015 or 2016). THE GREEN TREE PYTHON STRIKES ITS MORTAL NEMESIS, Chewy
I really am grateful to you guys. I am usually not in a happy mood but when I found you guys on youtube, you have since then gave me a good laugh every time:)Since then I watch your show with a smile on my face. And for that I love you guys

+Philippa Holland Check out my story up above.
One time I was at a zoo and they let people touch an octopus. They will grab you with their arms because they feel you out to see who you are. That #Green Tree Python" is absolutely beautiful........
Still watching this in 2024 ! Brian progressed so much & took the world of reptiles with him
Does being chased by a 12 foot gator count as a attack story?
yes
Can you help me with my retic please? it was wild caught by my uncle a week ago and it's about 3 feet. I am having trouble grabbing it from behind because it is always curled up. I really want to tame it or it'll be given to the local zoo. please give me some tips. :)
My little sis bit me in the thigh and one of her teeth came out. Had to go to the emergency room to get it removed.
How do these guys not have a reality show?? They are so funny. I think it would be great!!
My 11 foot yellow anaconda but the shit out of my thigh when we were outside, I have a bit of a scar now 😂
aren't yellows illegal in the US?
+Hayden Jett no wtf

+Hayden Jett you're 100% incorrect 😂
Hey Brian! Can you tell me what locality is the green tree python in the video? It would help a lot! Thank you!:)
LOL HAHAHA 6:43
LOL I clicked on the time and I literally jumped out of my chair from that!
LOL

If I ever saw that snake in person I would most likely shit myself, that snake is just plain scary.
Indeed!
snakes are not evil man. ive had my boa for years now and its never bit me or even lunged at me
Same, I have a albino california kingsnake and she has never bitten me. I'm getting a boa soon.

Chewy vs the green tree python.
Damn dude that green lil fella picked up your fist like a pro... Timing at its perfection...

I love the way you showed how to pick up a snake and not to! :D Great show!
One of the most entertaining channels I've ever seen! lol
I love Chewy he is like me when I am around spiders, hopping frogs and striking snakes 😂
I'm glad you added the last little disclaimer.

I got bit by my newest corn it was in poor condition over its last owners and I took it off them and after 2 days of it being it its new enclosure I tried to handle it and it bit my about 4 times and I rang up the previous owners to see what he had been fed on and it was pinkies to a 5ft snake no wonder if bit me
At every moment he screamed I could've sworn was going to start crying xD
That second one had me in stitches
Alright, I apologize for my last comment, it was unfair.
You're on here watching the video so it's a good start to expanding your horizons. I grew up working on a farm with animals and currently work in a pet store-- I would love to answer any questions or concerns you have, cynical or not.
why cant i find the king rat at 6:52 on the bhb website i want one terribly!!
Man, you're gonna be like a casual expert on an animal you don't even particularly care for. Can't go wrong, I guess :P
hahaha he sounds like the guy from Strange Wilderness... awesome video
Do you have any type of cobra brian
Zak Underwood nope, they don't do venomous snakes.
I got bit by a dog we rescued I have a scar on my head from where his tooth got me and on my hand where I was covering my face but he's a good dog now. He's alot calmer and more relaxed now:)
i just love this show
I was feeding pot belly pigs and there was a blind one, my arm was in front of her feeding another pig and she bit my arm thinking it was food.
Snakes can go a pretty long time without food so if your snake rejects a meal, it's no cause for alarm especially if the snake is about to shed (my snakes always reject meals when they're "in the blue") just offer them again the next feeding day :)
which one is smaller emerald tree boa or green tree python?
You know, every time Chewey goes for that Green Tree Python, I laugh a little inside, cause everyone KNOWS what's about to happen. >:)
LMAO!!!! that slow motion sounds funny as hell! ;)
Green Tree owned u!!lololol nice show guys!!Love it
A few yrs back I had bought a baby carpet python from a friend because she was scared of him.
Awesome show! =)
Is Chewy genuinly afraid of getting bit or is he playing on it?
