  • We will be making a spoon carving knife, hook knife, crook knife with Allen Newberry J.S. He will show how he bends the steel to make the blade, how he grinds, heat treats, shapes the handle, and glues up the green wood carving knife. This is a great tool for wood carvers and bushcrafters. At the end of the video Ben Orford of Craftlab Knives gives a great tip on hook knife storage and the viewer will also get a chance to see one of his crook knives.
Allen Newberry is a Journeyman Smith with the American Bladesmith Society and a Forged in FIre Champion.

Good video, just a suggestion....Shape and bevel while it's straight then rough form using the appropriate size pipe, adjust the form to your liking and then heat treat. Also you can make a longer tang and leave about 1/2 inch out of the handle with the edges rounded so you can assist it with your thumb if needed. Love the inlay you did...Great job :)

Great video but you should not encourage to grinding so much that sawdust isn't clean for breathing and dangerous. To cut away or chop to hog off much excess wood is a safer choice and far cheaper than buying belts
Yes nice project I'm going make myself several different sizes and carving knives
Nice wrapping up for saftly tip.Little surprised not to have a collar to strengthen the handle.
    Thanks

This person needs to get their hair put up so it can't get caught in th fast moving machinery.
