It's certainly not a call any of us want to make BUT that's a big portion of why we have built the reputation for honesty that we have. Also these videos go a long way as well, our customers can actually SEE the work that goes into their build/repair. Fortunately though this was a relatively major surgery in and out in a couple days and he's back on the road for the long holiday weekend.
We appreciate your watch and support as always Charles!

Another great video, Rich! Really clean/sweet '68!!

Find anything or is that in the next video?

    • @LucoreAuto
      @LucoreAuto  2 роки тому +1

That will actually be addressed on his next visit, the seam welds on one of the mufflers are blown out in about 5 different places and it's not really something we can "repair". The metal is super thin and super contaminated with soot so just going to put a new pair on there in the semi near future.
Glad you enjoyed it, this was SUPPOSED to be a quick little in and out video but... sometimes plans change!

Rich heard you talking about the oil pressure on your Buick the 455 is known for bad oiling to the cam bearings if it has been over reved the cam bearings can be scored and even spun there are a couple fixes for this one is on the back of the block there are 2 quarter inch plugs that go into the lifter gallery on each side 2 quarter inch elbows and a piece of quarter inch steal line will provide better oiling to the cam also by cutting a groove into the front cam bearing with a cutoff wheel allows for better oil flow

I swear every “ little job “ I do on my own stuff turns into a fiasco … my 72 Blazer , worrying harness is garbage so before I drop in my Afr headed 355 I need to take care of that , in turn I need to replace all my body mount bushings as I found quite a few rotted out , and I might as well utilize my life and take the body clean off the frame and clean and paint it right ? … I want it back on the road though 🤣

What heads does the engine have? Trick Flow DHC175’s?
If so you need to use 3/4” reach gasketed plugs. Like NGK BKR5E, or an ac delco 5 heat range equivalent.
And they do have a heat crossover to warm the choke. As long as he didn’t cover it with the intake gasket.
Also, timing should be 38 at full advance with vacuum advance disconnected. And not more than 52 with vacuum advance connected. Should actually limit it to 46, maybe 48. If he does have modern heads.

Bias ply tires. The belts are moving or he needs to have rubber ground down even. The owner should buy the new Firestone Wide Ovals in the radial version.
Early Muncie transmissions did not come with a drain plug. You need to drill and tap a hole. I always have my flywheel resurfaced and balanced. Last time my engine was rebuilt the flywheel and pressure plate were balanced together along with the steel crank. I have no vibrations from 0-80+ mph. Should use the bronze pilot bushing that gets lubed by itself. Yes I also use a Luk clutch BUT with a GM throwout bearing b/c the one in the Luk kit is garbage. I alao use an old input shaft to line up the clutch disc instead of the junk plastic sloppy tool.
And yes I also had a problem getting the input shaft splines to slide into the clutch disc splines. Maybe I had a burr. I did add a bit of lube on the splines too. When I was in my 20’s, I stabbed it in the first try, but the clutch was not new, I just replaced the M20 gears with M22 Rock Crusher gears. I love the whine but not the close ratio of the M21/M22 compared to the wide ratio M20.
My input shaft finally went in after several tries rotating the tail shaft and praying. I usually only use 2 guide bolts with the heads cut off on the top 2 tranny mount holes. This last time I used 3 to be really straight going in. Do Not bring in the trans that last 1/4” like some people do with the mounting bolts or you may break off a mounting ear off the tranny!
Oh ya and I did try the trick of pressing the clutch pedal down BUT it just misaligned the clutch disc so I had to remove the pressure plate and do the alignment again. If you try this I think it would work if you had one person press down on the clutch pedal and the other person wiggling the tranny home onto the bell housing.
    He should be using R45TS.
That weird noise you heard when you first started it up with the new clutch kit was the throwout bearing lining up on it’s ramp when it stopped turning. Manufacturers along with GM throwout bearings have a ramp. This single ramp stops the throwout bearing from spinning all the time thus increasing the mileage on a throwout bearing.
If he has a divorce choke on that car and it’s not fully opening the choke flap then someone installed the wrong intake gaskets. You can get 3 different kinds. One that closes the heat passage hole that won’t warm up the engine fast, one with a small hole cutout and one with a large hole cutout.
So if he has a mild winter wherever you guys are, you can just keep the choke flap open all the time with a mini nut/bolt.
