- Today we left Kitum for Gulu and my sweet Aunt gave us a lovely chicken so I gave him a name. However he wasn't exactly supposed to be loved and treasured like a pet, but eaten for food. This is very typical in Ugandan culture - You gift your visitor a chicken to take home with them. So this is exactly what my aunt did. I grew somehow fond of Glen the Gweno (Gweno = Chicken) though it was actually my mum who sat with him on the bus all the way to Gulu. Of course, Glen became dinner. This is the reality of life as a chicken in Uganda. We don't get to experience this living in western countries, so it's very easy not to face the truth about where your food really comes from. Once you face this...it's easy understand how many people want to be vegan or vegetarian for the animals. Anyway, I hope you still enjoy this vlog. It's supposed to be light and joyful!!

Yes, he was destined for dinner. He roamed around for a couple of days and even escaped to the neighbour's garden at some point. But then my cousin came over for lunch and we ate IT.
