Light is required to culture single cell algae with the breakdown of the banana skin that the daphnia feed on. Cultivating outside in a sunny area is all that is required no need to supliment natural light.
Sophea Kouch if it is warm and in plenty of direct sunlight it should start to go green within a week and continue to darken . You should then be able to add the starter culture within 2 to 3 weeks.
@@srinathp.t3062 I suggest you do some research rather than ask me such questions. I know the answer and you should find out. Same as how fish other animals bacteria algae etc find thier way into any new lake.
Nope, unless you have a least a few then you have nothing to breed from. daphnia are simple animals requiring little but green water to thrive during the summer months or at least periods of warm weather, however, they have to come from somewhere in order to get them to breed. Most LFS's have small bags of live daphnia you can buy to start a culture going.
You can't! You can't make something from nothing! So many people ask this on all the daphnia culturing videos, it's so silly. You need at the very, very least ONE female daphnia to produce eggs, to start a culture.
Haii what about that green water didn't get how to develop that.i wanna try to cultivate them as a feed for shrimp in my farm. Can you help me to do this .
Well you want green water then pop in some daphnia and let nature take its course. A bit of banana skin works well buy I guess any green veg like a lettuce leaf would do
Shruti Kirttania well they feed on green algae micro algae. The algae need light to grow so unless there is micro green algae there then you would not get daphnia to breed.
Shruti Kirttania OK but i don't just mean algae floating on the top. Single cell algae is what they need but it might just work if there no pollution n the water.
You've got some mosquito larvae in there, at the bottom. YUCK! That's against the law to have water like that just sitting in your yard. West nile and zika like mad out there!
@@jparks6544 This is plainly not true. I think you assume I am in the USA or some other country with such a law when the country I am in has no such law. You need to accept the WWW is just that not just in the USA or other country you may belong to
i used to catch daphnia on canals in exchange for 2 betta fishes. now I'll be just growing it on my own. thanks for the video.
you are fantastic, such a simple and ingenious method. no bother, just results! thank you so much!
Thanks, have you tried it for yourself?
Hello, does it require light
Light is required to culture single cell algae with the breakdown of the banana skin that the daphnia feed on. Cultivating outside in a sunny area is all that is required no need to supliment natural light.
Can you tell me please how long the water goes greenafter I put a banana skin in a bucket with water and put it under direct sunlight?
Sophea Kouch if it is warm and in plenty of direct sunlight it should start to go green within a week and continue to darken . You should then be able to add the starter culture within 2 to 3 weeks.
can we culture daphnia without starter from natural conditions?
Well you need a starter culture of daphne and green water for them to live off. After that nature takes its course.
@@sezles1 oh then how this daphnia is formed in a new lake?

Hi, I don't have started culture of clownfish and crocodiles where I live... can I still able to raise them without culture?.
Do they need an airstone for oxygen?
no not at all just leave it be nothnig more to do or add.
Haii what about that green water didn't get how to develop that.i wanna try to cultivate them as a feed for shrimp in my farm. Can you help me to do this .
you can add a little plant food to feed the green water.
great idea
is banana peel the food for the daphnia ? alot of people told me feed it with dog poop or even chickens poop .
Nope, the banana breaks down and creates algae and infusoria etc the daphnia feeds on.
oh you mean its the best for daphnia ?
Well you want green water then pop in some daphnia and let nature take its course. A bit of banana skin works well buy I guess any green veg like a lettuce leaf would do
oh thanks alot sir . this will really help me ease some trouble finding daphnia in the wild here since its not raining these days
Zo Deviruchi please tell me what do i feed my dahpnia to keep the cycle going???
Do u think that i can get daphnia in a old unused well?
Shruti Kirttania well they feed on green algae micro algae. The algae need light to grow so unless there is micro green algae there then you would not get daphnia to breed.
The well does have green water. Thankyou for the information :)
Shruti Kirttania OK but i don't just mean algae floating on the top. Single cell algae is what they need but it might just work if there no pollution n the water.
how bout mosquitos ?
boomshine7. I have already answered that question on here. Please read back.
What do feed them??
Green water , you can set up another bucket if you wish just to culture green water to feed them.
sezles1 they eat algea too right?
Well green water is algae single cell algae, not sure if they eat other sorts of algae like filamentous.
You've got some mosquito larvae in there, at the bottom. YUCK! That's against the law to have water like that just sitting in your yard. West nile and zika like mad out there!
Nonsense, I can feed mosquito larvae to my fish and there is no law against breeding them and no risk to health either.
@@sezles1 Actually, it IS against the law to have standing water containers. You could be fined a lot of money if someone reported you.
@@jparks6544 Not in the UK it isn't
@@sezles1 yes it is. check it out.
