Loving this pattern! A couple changes I've made: I just chained a whole whackload of chains for the foundation and then put a pin on the end.... if I ended up needing more, I would just chain more. Saved me from needing to count! I'm not a huge fan of big holes in crochet, and I found I was getting large holes with 8 mm hooks. I tried a whole bunch of different sizes, but 3.5 mm is working the best. It makes strands of 8 3-dc clusters, meaning the sides will have 4 clusters. :)

@@rayeannelise8622 Hi, I've never done color pooling but I've been crocheting for a long time. If you use a much smaller hook than recommended, your stitches would be tighter and smaller so you'd have enough yarn to crochet more clusters. Oftentimes I will crochet a sample to test how my tension or hook size affects my stitches or whatever I need to figure out before plunging in to a big project and then I'll know if I need to make adjustments. Success comes from being consistent with a pattern. For example, if you use a smaller hook and your tension gives you sets of 8 clusters per color instead of 6 sets, just be sure you are getting 8 sets every time your color changes. I was so shocked that you used such a big hook! I just happen to have two skiens of RH neon stripes that i decided to try it using that size hook. 🤯 It worked ❣ So now i would like to know how many skiens did you use for your blanket? And i remember you said this makes a large blanket, full size to queen. PS: i like the row one with the moss stitch too. Yea, i was checking ur channel, 😁❣
Instead of ripping out because the tension was too loose I do 2 double crochet and a chain stitch and if I have too much yarn I do 4 double crochet making sure that the 3rd and 4th double crochet are crocheted together.
Great tutoril, but after 12 rows * two skeins) I had to frog the blanket. I bought enough to make the size you made, pattern was working out beautifully then when I went to a new skein I had to go half way through to get the color I needed as each skein was different even though they were all from the same dyelot. I wish I knew how to work this without constantly having to cut and go thru skeins to make it work. Could you please help with any tips? I only have a few months left to live, and a trying to get this done for my grandson so he has something to remember me by. Thanks!

This was very helpful! I’m doing my first color pooling blanket…how do you finish the blanket? Just do a last row in the same color as the cast in the beginning?
Question ❓❓ I was on my 4th row but I have to start over because I pulled yarn from the middle of the skein instead of the outside causing my color scheme to be wrong. 😭 I have questions about the number of sets of BLACK Dc3's at the start and end of each row 1-5. Since I have to start over, I want to get it right so can you please tell me how many black sets of Dc3's are at the start and end of each row 2 through 5? My begin and end BLACK DC3 SETS for Rows 1 through 4 were this (not sure it's correct): Row 1 3+3 ✓ correct Row 2 Start 3 + End 2 Row 3 Start 4 + End 1 Row 4 Start 5 + End ? (I didn't finish all of row 4 before having to start over) Thank you for your help!😊
I have a question. Im on row 3 and my neon orange has lined up on all 3 rows (shifted of course) but the color is together on each row. All the other colors are alternating like they should be. Do I need to start over or what can i do to fix it?
@@amandanelson9035 it’s hard for me to say without seeing it. I would go back and loosen or tighten your tension and see if o could prevent the stacking. However if the other colors are moving you could keep going and see what happens. Sorry I couldn’t elaborate more. You can send me a pic on Facebook if you want. ❤️
@@CustomComfyCrochetByDawnMarie I have my tension so loose that at first it doesn't look very appealing. If I tighten my tension, I will have 7 or 8 DCs to each color. What is your Facebook and I will send you a picture?
I was doing good on my blanket but I had to get more yarn. It says it's the same but the colors last longer before they run out. Now my pattern don't seem to be matching up what am I doing wrong
I'm almost 4 skeins into the pattern and even though I used all the same dye lot, and followed your directions, the pattern does not look right. I feel like some skeins start their sequences in differnt plaves. Its too late for this project, but is there a way to be sure that all the skeins are the same, besides the dye lot?
Have you ever had a skein that had a different length ration than others? I had one skein while figuring out what kind of stitch and project I wanted to use colour pooling with. When I finally found one I went and got more skeins. When I switch over to my second skein, the colour changed a whole 2 counts earlier than 8 was expecting it. Have you had this happen before?
Yea I have. It’s very irritating. This is usually doesn’t happen with specific color pooling yarn but in yarns that you “try out” with color pooling it can happen often. I will usually have to cut it until it gets to the same pattern and length. 🥰
What other red heart stripe yarn can you use for the granny color pooling? I bought the favorite stripe but the lengths of color are long or can u use them anyway?
I need help. Where can I find this yarn? I thought I bought the right thing at Walmart. It’s called bright stripe by red heart. The color changes are way longer and there’s 10 color changes. That won’t work correct? Thanks
The yarn I’m using is red heart neon stripes. If you are wanting to do exactly what I’m doing in this video then you will need that specific yarn or a yarn with similar color changing properties. You could use your yarn possibly but you would have to change the pattern. As I have not used it, then I don’t know how to direct you. I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help. PS: I found this yarn at Walmart. You might be able to find it on Amazon as well.
I'm confused because my Jumbo stripes yarn was labeled as that was a completely different pattern and didn't alternate black, color, black color, instead blended into the next so closely that I couldn't tell where the break was.? I wanted to use it but now have set it aside and ordered 3 skeins of regular sized red heart stripes and it is the correct pattern of alternating colors. How many will I need total?
I'm sorry to bother/ask again: I have problems with the ends of the blanket, with the black part of the stitches, AFTER the first row and had to undo parts of the crocheted rows again. Maybe it is because english is not my first language and I did not understand it correctly but thank you for your patience with me: I did understand that the number of colored stitches is always 6. When ending a row, should I make a chain stitch or a whole double crochet stich at the end to get to the next (higher) row and does that already count as one stitch? Then a second question if I may: you said that the colors shouldn't be stacking. Does it mean it's okay if the colors are staggered alternately? Thank you, I am looking forward for your reply!
Hi, no bother. You end every row with a cluster of 3 double crochets. You shouldn’t stack the colors or they will look uniform. You want the colors to be moving as you crochet. I hope that helps. ❤️
Hoe many skeins are needed for this project? I thought I missed you saying it, but I still haven't heard it and I don't see it in the description. Please tell me bc I found them at Walmart for 4$ and I could only get 2 skeins, but I will find more. I wish you could order yarn online and make sure that the lot# is the same. If you know a place Please lmk❤
Is there any reason I can't change my number of granny clusters per color? I ask because I know I'm tend to be tight so I generally have to change hooks but I thought I'd be good with this needing a 8. I went up to a 10 mm and still had color left over. I can however use a 6mm and get 8 clusters perfect
I'd obviously have to do some math with my beginning chain so I can start and end with the same color. But was just wondering if the pattern will still work out since its still an even number of clusters. I was pretty excited today because my local Walmart had this yarn on clearance for $2 . And I remembered saving this video to watch later after I finished a couple of wips
Will do, all i did last night was figure out my foundation chain and do my first row of granny clusters. I finished my other two wins finally (baby blankets) and my afgan for my mom for mother's day. My nephew will love this. He turns 14 in June. I'm not going to be able to hold on to it till Christmas when hell get more use out of it lol
PS - I'm not sure I'll be able to buy all 7 or 8 skeins at once so I was wondering... ❓❓How wide is your blanket AND how many rows do you get from 1 Jumbo skein of the neon stripes?❓❓ Thanks!!!😊
@@CustomComfyCrochetByDawnMarie That sounds like a good plan!👍 Thanks. One more question (for now - LOL)... I chained 181 and it is quite long. Are the rows going to be the width or the length of the blanket? What was your finished size? I can't wait to pick up a skein of neon stripes today!😁
You have to line up the new skein as if it never stopped. So if you're in the middle of pink, and next is idk, blue...and you run out of pink, then you get your next skein...find the pink, and make sure the next color is blue, or whatever it was on your original skein. Does that make sense?
I'm so glad you asked that question. If I had not seen your comment I was going to ask how many skeins were needed. I assumed it would require a lot of yarn and it does. Now I wonder exactly how quickly it can be crocheted. This blanket is absolutely gorgeous and I am very anxious to try and make it. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE those neon colors! ❤❤❤
Attempted this and failed unfortunately. No matter how much/less tension I couldn’t get 6x 3dc. I dropped down to size 7mm hook and got 8x 3dc. But then after 7 rows I can clearly see the pattern isn’t coming through. :( hate to see 4hrs out the window but looks like I have to start over and maybe use a bigger hook to ensure 6x 3dc
It does not work with every multi color:( Some yarn is better for this granny stitch, like the one she is using, other yarn with faster color changes work with the moss stitch. I hppe that helps:)
Ok so I’ve started this and realized I messed up on the sides. I’m not getting three of each color on the sides but the rest of the blanket lines up perfectly. My mistake was that instead of counting the chain three as the cluster in the bringing i , instead , left it and began my cluster in the second hole. My question is do I need to ,pretty much, start over 😭😭😭😭 and go back and fix that because it’s made it so there is a space to always crochet into on both ends of the blanket, or can I just fix it now and continue from where I am because the colors are still lining up throughout the rest of the blanket? I’ve already started over more times than I can count so if this is not a big deal I’d prefer not to rip anymore rows out.
@@CustomComfyCrochetByDawnMarie I went ahead and went back to row three and fixed it😖 I had gotten pretty fat along before the colors stopped lining up and went back to fix it but couldn’t figure out what I did wrong then I rewatched this video and realized what I was doing wrong and now it’s perfect! It was painful to rip my whole project out but I can rest better at night knowing it’s done right this time lol.
Ok... lol... got the neon... started out perfect... but now, what do I do if a color is going to stack... I have a section where the orange is in the same spot.
@@CustomComfyCrochetByDawnMarie I have 7 clusters everytime every color every row. So hook up/ down for a different magic number? Ps. Thanks for such quick response. You're awesome!
I "think" it would have to be multiples of 3 (and "maybe" 1 or 2 extra chains for turning). You could test it on a small chain of 21 for example but I'm pretty sure it's 3 because you are putting 3 double crochets into 1 stitch and you've skipped 1 stitch before and 1 stitch after so you've actually taken up the space of 3 stitches. For example, you crochet 3 double crochets in the middle of and on top of 3 stitches in the row beneath your current row you are building. I hope that makes sense. 🤞😊
Very beautiful

I divided a regular sized skein length of 364 yds into the total 3,856 yds needed revealing 10.59 regular skeins are needed. I round up to 11 skeins but one MUST order 2 LOTS of 6-QTY and NOT individual skeins for this best price so... If you order 2 LOTS of 6-QTY @ $19.59 each lot, it'll cost $39.18 for 12 reg sz skeins (= Total 4,368 Yds) as opposed to $59.84 for 8 Jumbo skeins (= 3,856 Yds). That's enough savings not only to buy 1 extra Lot of 6-QTY of this beautiful yarn, but you'll have 1.41 skeins (or 513 Yds) leftover from the 12 regular sized skeins AFTER making the blanket!!
Yarn lovers can never have enough beautiful yarn! 😄
Again, sorry this was so long but I hope it helps you to save $ on some yarn that you can use to provide more beautiful tutorials to all us crochet lovers.
Btw, if nobody's told you today, I'm telling you.... You are truly awesome for sharing! ❤😊
Im using a different red heart stripe yarn and because of this i had to alter the chain length due to color sections being thicker.
I was so shocked that you used such a big hook! I just happen to have two skiens of RH neon stripes that i decided to try it using that size hook.
🤯 It worked ❣
So now i would like to know how many skiens did you use for your blanket? And i remember you said this makes a large blanket, full size to queen.
PS: i like the row one with the moss stitch too. Yea, i was checking ur channel, 😁❣
You will need 6-8skeins for a queen size Afghan using this stitch 🥰
@@CustomComfyCrochetByDawnMarie , oh thankyou so much❣🥰 < Hugs
Thanks!
I’m so sorry - my prayers are with you. Unfortunately the only thing I know to do is to cut it. That’s what I had to do
@@CustomComfyCrochetByDawnMarie Thank you very much! Going to re-try again :)

April 8, 2024 - The best price for buying ALL the yardage needed for this neon blanket is $39.18 at JoAnn for 2 Lots (or bundles) of 6-QTY Reg Sz Skeins as opposed to $59.84 at Walmart for 8 Jumbo Skeins.
I've done all the calculations for yardage needed and cost and the savings is enough to buy 6 EXTRA regular sized skeins at JoAnn and have 1½ skeins out of the 12 regular skeins leftover. Hope this helps someone.
🤑🧶🤑
(My calculations are based on the yardage of an estimated 8 Jumbo Skeins used to make a large blanket).
🧶🤑🧶 Details of calculations:
April 8th 2024, JoAnn has a sale on now for a LOT of 6-QTY regular sized skeins for $19.59/LOT and a coupon for $2.99 Discounted Shipping.
@TLOJewelryLove did the math on the best price for the yarn qty needed to make this blanket.
Per Dawn, the largest estimate needed is 8 Jumbo skeins which = 10½ Regular skeins.
8 Jumbo skeins @482 yds ea = Total 3,856 yds needed.
Walmart's best price on 8 Jumbo skeins is $7.48 ea = Total $59.84
I divided a regular sized Skein's length of 364 yds into the total 3,856 yds needed revealing 10.59 regular skeins are needed to make a Large Queen sized blanket. I rounded up to 11 regular skeins but it MUST be ordered as 2 LOTS of 6-QTY and NOT individual skeins to get this best price so...
If you order 2 LOTS of 6-QTY @ $19.59 each lot from JoAnn, it'll cost $39.18 for 12 reg sz skeins (= Combined Total 4,368 Yds) as opposed to $59.84 for 8 Jumbo skeins (= Combined Total 3,856 Yds).
That's enough SAVINGS not only TO BUY 1 EXTRA LOT of 6-QTY of this beautiful yarn, but you'll have 1.41 Skeins (or an EXTRA 513 YDS) LEFTOVER from the 12 regular sized skeins AFTER making the blanket!!
Yarn lovers can never have enough beautiful yarn! 😄
Again, sorry this was so long but I hope it helps some of you to save $ to make this project.

Happy Crocheting Everyone! 😃
This was very helpful! I’m doing my first color pooling blanket…how do you finish the blanket? Just do a last row in the same color as the cast in the beginning?
You just keep working it until you get the desired measurement
Question ❓❓
I was on my 4th row but I have to start over because I pulled yarn from the middle of the skein instead of the outside causing my color scheme to be wrong. 😭
I have questions about the number of sets of BLACK Dc3's at the start and end of each row 1-5. Since I have to start over, I want to get it right so can you please tell me how many black sets of Dc3's are at the start and end of each row 2 through 5?
My begin and end BLACK DC3 SETS for Rows 1 through 4 were this (not sure it's correct):
Row 1 3+3 ✓ correct
Row 2 Start 3 + End 2
Row 3 Start 4 + End 1
Row 4 Start 5 + End ? (I didn't finish all of row 4 before having to start over)
Thank you for your help!😊
You want a total of 6 including the turn.
love this blanket... good video.. please tell how many skeins you used in this blanket. thanks
6-7 jumbo skeins for Queen/full
Can you use a different stitch then double crochet granny?
Idk I’ve never tried it
I have a question.
I may have missed it - but when adding a 2nd skein.. how do we know what to use to make sure it stays in the same sequence?
Just keep your color sequence the same even when you change skeins
How many skeins make a whole blanket? Im almost done with my second. Skein and its pretty short length wise
7-8 jumbo skeins
I was doing good on my blanket but I had to get more yarn. It says it's the same but the colors last longer before they run out. Now my pattern don't seem to be matching up what am I doing wrong
Cut off yarn as needed to match
I'm almost 4 skeins into the pattern and even though I used all the same dye lot, and followed your directions, the pattern does not look right. I feel like some skeins start their sequences in differnt plaves. Its too late for this project, but is there a way to be sure that all the skeins are the same, besides the dye lot?
Unfortunately this is a manufactured error that a lot of Crocheter’s deal with. I’m sorry
I’m sorry idk I’ve never used that yarn before
Just got 8 skeins of neon stripes tonight! Is it possible to do this with moss stitch?
On my 2nd row my pink was in same spot as row one. Will this mess the pooling up?
Yes - the rows shouldn’t stack
They're all 1 over from previous but my pink is in centre of the starting row then the second row pink is in some spot but it is over by 1
Hi! Love the pattern! I want to try this for sure but was wondering about how many skeins did you use?
For a Queen size blanket you will need 6/7 jumbo skeins
I'm confused because my Jumbo stripes yarn was labeled as that was a completely different pattern and didn't alternate black, color, black color, instead blended into the next so closely that I couldn't tell where the break was.? I wanted to use it but now have set it aside and ordered 3 skeins of regular sized red heart stripes and it is the correct pattern of alternating colors. How many will I need total?
Have you tried this with other super saver stripes? I have the color newspaper I’m not sure it’s going to work
I haven’t tried it
I'm sorry to bother/ask again: I have problems with the ends of the blanket, with the black part of the stitches, AFTER the first row and had to undo parts of the crocheted rows again.
How many skeins for this size full/queen blanket?
6- 7 jumbo skeins
I'm getting 7 for the pink after the 3 black... Same yarn hook and keep redoing tension
Are you using the same size hook I am?
@@CustomComfyCrochetByDawnMarie yes
I though I got the same yarn... however I got Bright Stripes. Do you have a tutu on that one? each one is really LONG
No I’m sorry I don’t
Can I achieve this using red heart jumbo Icelandic which only has 4 color changes
I’m sorry, I haven’t used that yarn for granny square color pooling .
You need 7- 8 skeins for a full size Afghan. The only other place I know is maybe Amazon. 🥰
Question; would this technique work well with the red heart super saver Mistletoe color way?
I’ve never seen that yarn. It depends on the length of the color changes and how many colors there are - give it a try ❤️
I’ve never tried it. Give it go and let me know how it works up 😊
Will do, all i did last night was figure out my foundation chain and do my first row of granny clusters. I finished my other two wins finally (baby blankets) and my afgan for my mom for mother's day. My nephew will love this. He turns 14 in June. I'm not going to be able to hold on to it till Christmas when hell get more use out of it lol
Will it always be 60 clusters of 3 double stitches per row?
I did this blanket a year ago. I can’t remember the exact count, but I do remember that you need to end with 3 black clusters. ❤️
PS - I'm not sure I'll be able to buy all 7 or 8 skeins at once so I was wondering... ❓❓How wide is your blanket AND how many rows do you get from 1 Jumbo skein of the neon stripes?❓❓ Thanks!!!😊
I’m sorry I didn’t count the rows per skein. You could just buy as much as you can and go as far as you can and then get more. 😊
How do you add a new skein, especially when it ends halfway through you 6 cluster?
You have to line up the new skein as if it never stopped.
So if you're in the middle of pink, and next is idk, blue...and you run out of pink, then you get your next skein...find the pink, and make sure the next color is blue, or whatever it was on your original skein. Does that make sense?
I’m new and I want to do this pattern so bad. I think I mostly understand. But how would I add a black border around the whole blanket?
You could just go around with sc
Can you do this with the jumbo RH neon strips?
That is the same yarn I’m using in this video - so yea 😊
Hello 👋🏼 quick question 🙋🏻♀️ can I do this with a smaller hook? And also by increasing the count from 6 to 9? Or even 8? Looooove this blanket 😍❤️
You can definitely try and see how it works out. I’ve never tried it with a smaller hook. 😊
8 is working for me so far
What if you only have jumbo strips is it the save?
This is jumbo neon stripes in red heart / if that’s what you have it will work perfectly
Maybe I missed it but how many skeins of yarn did this take?
For a full/Queen it would take 6/7 jumbo skeins depending on your tension
Im doing this pattern now and i came up with 6 instead of 8. Is that okay for this project?
I have no idea - you can try it and see how it works out. I’ve never done sets of 6. 😊
@@CustomComfyCrochetByDawnMarie Thank you
I know this is an old video but i want to make this but cant find anywhere how many skeins it needs for the full pattern to show.
6_7 jumbo skeins for a queen size
Are there other good yarns for striping (checkered)?
Look up color pooling yarns - there are a lot out there. 😊
Can I use any color scheme of this yarn
Yes
How many yards do you need
Czy to działa dla każdej wielokolorowej włóczki? Lub przynajmniej dla więcej niż jednej marki?
It does not work with every multi color:(
Some yarn is better for this granny stitch, like the one she is using, other yarn with faster color changes work with the moss stitch.
I hppe that helps:)
Will red hearts pooling yarn work with this pattern? Or is it best to go with stripes?
I think because it’s the granny squares it would be better with stripes. But give it a try just to see ❤️
How many skains dose ot take to make it how many rows do you do for the afghan
You would need 6-8 jumbo skeins to make a queen size blanket ❤️
How many balls will I need for this project ?
For a full/queen size blanket you will need 7-8 skeins
Just keep on trucking on. As long as the colors are matching up it will be fine. 😊
Sorry, no written pattern for this. Only the video 😊
What’s the multiple for the chain?
I "think" it would have to be multiples of 3 (and "maybe" 1 or 2 extra chains for turning). You could test it on a small chain of 21 for example but I'm pretty sure it's 3 because you are putting 3 double crochets into 1 stitch and you've skipped 1 stitch before and 1 stitch after so you've actually taken up the space of 3 stitches. For example, you crochet 3 double crochets in the middle of and on top of 3 stitches in the row beneath your current row you are building. I hope that makes sense. 🤞😊
