- It's October 15, 1950, just a few months into the Korean War at Kimpo airfield, near Seoul, South Korea. The Marines are flying F4U-5N night fighter Corsairs and twin-engine F7F Tigercats. An Air Force C-54 lands at Kimpo between Corsair operations.
This raw footage, made by Fleet Air Photo Unit VU-7, gives a look around the Kimpo airfield. There's a parked amphibious Martin PBM-5A Mariner seaplane, and rows of tents. It appears that derelict Soviet-built North Korean tanks litter the shoulder of a road on base. At the very end, is a new Corsair arrival getting its tail masked to apply the WF tail code?

I will never forget their devotion! from Seoul
My father was a USMC aviator with VMF (N) 542, tail code WH, and VMF (N) 513 and tail code WF, flew the F7F Tigercat stationed at Kimpo. Nice to see these images.
Thank you for watching and commenting. It's good to hear from the families of veterans who served when these films were made.
I like that you take the time to research the archives for these films. Thanks
You are very welcome. It is an ongoing treasure hunt; lots of dead-ends, but the good stuff is worth it.
Great one again...alas for color film!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks again Mr Johnsen for more Korean archive footage. Truly a forgotten conflict. We see so little about it. But those who served and died there endured great hardships indeed. As always God bless you and yours and thanks again for everything you do! God bless the USA!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Glad you appreciated it.
Interesting, my father was at Kimpo during this period with the 21st Troop Carrier Squadron (USAF). I have a picture of one of the F7F's that has cables imbedded in the wings and wrapped around one engine, he chased "Bed Check Charlie" into a valley and flew into cables the N Koreans had stretched across in order to knock down the night fighter......needless to say, they made it back. Dad said the crew were kissing the ground when they climbed out of that beat up bird!
That's a great story to add, and sounds like a remarkable photo. Thanks for watching and commenting.
