- Likely due to high API costs, X/Twitter will no longer be aupported on the Nintendo Switch after June 10th. Nintendo's workaround is simple for Splatoon 3 - it's basically going to become Miiverse 2!! anyone can post NO SOCIAL MEDIA REQUIRED, and anyone 13+ will have their posts visible in game in their region. however, it's a death blow for Splatoon 2.

The gain is basically only for s3’s in game functionality and hurts every other game on the system significantly!! Especially s2
On one hand I'm really happy that I can now make plaza posts if In wanted to now that a twitter account is no longer a requirement but on the other hand it is sad that so much has to be lost to achieve that. Splat2 will really feel dead now and while it might not affect me, so many people are losing a *massive* quality of life feature when it comes to sharing photos or clips from the switch o7

A lot of people were very very excited when this was patched in a while ago (and then we got radio silence about it) so it’s a massive double edged sword for most games but a big win for some international splat players and also people without socials!!! Happy for you!! Enjoy posting in a month :DD

I never use my twitter so on the one hand it’s cool that I can finally make plaza posts. On the other hand 2 is already kinda sad to try and play with how few people are there, but now it’ll be even more depressing

Btw you can transfer photos from Splatoon 3 (and maybe 2) directly to your phone if you have the Nintendo online app with the album function. It only works with photo mode photos unfortunately, but if you get into the menu and press -, you'll be put into your in game album and from there can transfer up to 20 photos directly to your phone. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if you could also do that with clips in a future update. But that is a solution for those who can't do the QR code thing

Y’know, in hindsight. Why did we NEED a social to post in the first place? Why couldn’t the twitter part just be optional?
I guess for authentication reasons? Or to encourage users to share on social media to boost eyes on their games as they come out? Every single splatfest, #Splatoon3 trends. without the quick posting, it might not!!!

In regards to not all devices having qr code support there is another work around. On the same screen pressing + will bring you instructions for an alternative method where you basically connect your device directly to your switches SSID. I don't have social media or devices that read qr codes so this is what I've had to default to whenever I've wanted to share something with friends. It's not the smoothest method but it is something

I hope so too!! It’s great for keeping our plaza lively in 3, and posting from a phone in general isn’t too bad, but it will likely discourage posting until people get used to it lol

Omg, I only ever made a Twitter account just to post on Splatoon , and now I can finally delete a social media account that I don’t ever intend to use for anything else 😭
If you have data/service (ex.5G/4G) you can send screenshots or videos from the QR code. Turn it off to make the QR code function again
It's bittersweet. On one hand it means I can finally post again as I deleted my twitter account but on the other hand a piece of Splatoon 2 is gone forever and idk if I'm ready for that after the loss of splatoon 1.
I’ll miss posting directly to Twitter (he deadnames his child, I deadname his website), but I *didnt* really enjoy going into my alt to do so.

probably the fact that most tweets have 18+ Content being posted by bots underneath them these days T_T
I guess it’s nice that twitter and facebook are no longer required to post, but the fact that they aren’t even an option is terrible for archival purposes. Now, if someone posts a cool piece of art, once they post something else, that first piece will be lost forever unless the poster goes out of their way to get it off their switch and upload it on the internet, whereas before that was baked into the process.
I kind of think that's good. If they want to post it again, they can. Maybe the old art is embarrassing and they'll gladly put it only in their switch album or phone etc., maybe they don't want a bunch of twitter attention but just a plaza post.. also they can just write their socials in the drawing.
I actually created my Twitter account specifically to post on Splatoon 2 back in 2018, but eventually got more "involved" by following my favorite creators and topics and such. And while I wouldn't necessarily call it a mistake, it's definitely done more harm than good as of recently and I've completely stopped using it as of January this year, preferring to talk and share my art on private Discord servers instead.
I did hear a few rumors about Nintendo allowing people to post in the Splatoon 3 plaza without Twitter a few months ago and I've been quietly hoping for them to come true ever since. Now that they have, I'm pretty happy and excited for it! Sacrificing Twitter functionality for everything else doesn't bother me as it does others since I don't use the app, but I can see why they'd be upset or irritated.
Alas, it has come time to say goodbye to the lovely Inkopolis Square which has been my home grounds for the past 6 years... (or not because it's still in Splatoon 3 hehe >:D)
They're changing it in S3 to the way it should have always been for both games (although I guess Twitter integration as an optional thing would have been nice). It's always been absurd that it was required.

I don't think those are bot accounts in Splatsville, just the NPCs Nintendo uses when you're disconnected from offline or when there's a couple spots in the city without someone's avatar already hanging around. Keep an eye out for when they pop up- you may start recognizing them!

Butit is very sad that Splatoon 2 is losing plaza posts, especially after it made me become absolutely obsessed with the series so its sad that it's being killed even more but there has been this gear ive wanted forever so now i can request it, overall,this update has its pros and cons,honestly idk if theres more pros or cons though

I kinda think of this as a positive negative? Splatoon 2 posts are gone, but players who are 13 can express themselves in 3. I never really wanted to download something just so i could post artwork or something.

Even if you use or post your plaza posts on socials, why would you want to _need_ to post it to twitter or facebook to post? This just requires slightly more effort if you want to post to both. As opposed to needing to make a twitter account and delete the twitter post on another device every time you want to post only to splatoon(even without tags).
I don't like this trend of Nintendo axing the online features of my specific favorite internet-heavy game series (my in-game name in Splat 3 is still "TY Splat 1", I can't change it for another couple days) with what feels like very little warning, but on the other hand... 👀 Twitter-less Miiverse Nouveau??? At this time when I'm trying to become a splatpost artist? Localized entirely within Splatoon 3?

Not really into s2 too much, but super excited for s3 bc I've tried doing plaza posts without social media in many ways (including going offline).

You can also transfer your clips and screenshots via USB cable, its been my preferred method even before this change was announced

No I have never been copyrighted for Splatoon music!! Most Nintendo music in general is safe these days :) it’s because about 6 or so years ago they made a significant change to their creator policies

doesn't affect me sadly. Id still play 2 if I could hop on and get consistent games. My -970 S rank is complete with quick series to continue my personal goal of ending the season with a positive number. I got this game this season, so I thought that going negative stopped at some point? So when I first hit S (No, not S+, I am aware I am not gud) and got negative I used my rank down because I understood I had more things to learn before I was comfortable in S. Why only once and why no rank down? I imagine the glicko is putting me with A ranks? I'm losing way more often.
