    When I was in the USAF, they had one of these in our flight line tool boxes. We checked out the boxes & every tool had to be accounted for when turned in. They even issued brass chits to place in the cutout slot when you removed the tool. This was so no one left a tool in the cockpit, to get jammed underneath a rudder pedal or something. My dad gave me one when he returned from Vietnam, and for the last 9 years I thought it was lost. Found it in an ammo can a week ago, where I had stashed some beans & rice. It's a 1964 Imperial with the U.S. stamp on one side. It's the most valuable knife in my collection because my dad gave it to me.
    I just ordered the Marbles hawkbill that had the same dimple covers and has a U.S. stamp. Did the military ever have a hawkbill like that, or is that just an inspiration?

    I have that exact knife but made by Imperial no date stamp with US stamp. It must be from 1960 or earlier because I got it for Christmas in 1960. It was my EDC for many years, until I could afford a Swiss Army Knife 😊

    They were actually in our toolboxes in the USAF, actually the U.S. model was.

    Thank you for your service Tobias.
    I really would love to pick up one of the U.S.N. versions. When I did my hitch several of my shipmates had one of those MIL-K knives dangling on a clip from their belts and I wanted one badly.
    Finally one day I " commandeered " one. It wasnt long lived however because as you know they are easily prone to back spring breakage, which is exactly what happened to the one that I " found " laying around " somewhere.
    I often wonder if non- veterans have the same desire for these prized possessions as we vets have.

    I'm late to the party.. apparently you did this video some time ago. I'm very small collector and have just a meager collection of things, but I have interest in this hobby and your level of enthusiasm sparks my interest immensely.. and since I'm on lock down and I am 62, I'm in the house most of the time. This is a wonderful way to spend my time learning from you, so I just wanted to thank you for what you do and I sincerely wish you continued success.

    You are correct in that the military issue knives were only stamped US. That is what I received while in the US Navy and what a relative was issued while in the USAF. These are featured in the book "Pocket Knives of the United States Military" by Michael Silvey. They are great to collect due to the date stamping and most are not all that expensive. Aside from the original WWII examples the most unique one I have is a Camillus USMC 1994 date stamping. This has a commemorative United States Marine Corps Iwo Jima 2/19/45 - 3/16/45 blade etching on it. If you like the pattern for less money Marbles puts out a decent inexpensive copy of these.

    I was issued one with all my other equipment on my first day at the US Naval Academy. I lost that one which was made in 1972, but I bought another one dated 1966. The main blade wasn't that great, but I used the bottle opener / screw driver more often.

    I have a 1955 and a 1968 U.S. Camillus utility knife. I find it interesting that the tools and design are very much like the Boy Scout / Camp Knifes. Do you know who invented this design? Was it designed for the Boy Scouts first and then adopted by the Military , or was it the other way around?
    Nice video. Thanks for sharing.

      It is very possible that yours is a knife made for Canadian Forces. I understand they also used the knives but It was not stamped US for obvious reasons.

    I have one of these Camillus knives that does not have a branch of the military stamped on it. It has a sword on the front scale, and nothing on the back. • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias  Рік тому

      Is it a Chinese knock-off or a Camillus knife made by Acme United after 2007? Acme like to use a titanium coated 420 steel blades. Your knock off might just be a Acme United Camillus knife. If it is, the build quality probably isn't that shabby.

      @@SubUrbanNinja-EDC , prices are all over the place partly because people want specific years. ( birth year, year in ‘Nam, or years in the military.) 1967 is a Vietnam era so they tend to go for more. ($30 if you’re lucky but often around $50). But then you might find one for $10 at a swap meet or flea market.

    Tobias hi I don't know if you are interested in feedback ?
    I personally wish you would just post your videos and do
    less premieres, maybe once in a while for something special
    or a giveaway (personally I don't care about giveaways)
    If you do premieres too often they lose impact.
    Don't get me wrong I enjoy your videos
    Thanks Todd

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias  5 років тому +1

      I've tried doing it both ways, but when I use the premiere feature, viewership is significantly higher within the first 24 hours. Everything about UA-cam revolves around the first 24 hours of a video's release. I try to release at least two shows a week, one on Wednesday and one on Saturday or Sunday. I announce them one or two days out so that folks can determine if it is something they want to watch or not.
      I also try to do one live show a week, normally on Thursday Night. (there are several shows out there for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, already!)
      And then if I have something that is timely, I put it out ASAP, unannounced.
      I try not to overwhelm my viewers with a ton of content all at once.
      If I were to post everything as I made it, there would be like five programs one one day and then another five or six the next day and nothing for a couple weeks and nobody would be watching!

    OK...The PROBLEM with the MARBLES knives of today, is simple...and it makes the entire knife a FAIL in my book.
    The AWL blade is made really thin, and the nail nick is cut into the blade SO DEEP, that when/if you actually use the awl on wood, to drill a hole, the blade has a huge tendency to snap off at the nick. Ive now lost 3 of these awl blades, all of them while simply trying to put a hole into a small branch for 550 cord to make toggles.
    FAIL.
    Rough Ryder , who makes these, needs to change that design and beef up that blade so it wont snap off.

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias  6 місяців тому +1

      The Marbles Knives are made in the same factory as Rough Ryder but that is as far as the connection goes. I think Blue Ridge owns the TM and they actually control the specs of the product. Now with that said... I'm sure not going to argue with you. I use my Camillus made Demo Knives and frequently drill holes into 2X4s with it. No problem at all. I have been leery of attempting to do the same with the Marble's because I was afraid the thin awl would twist or bend out of shape.
