This is the same for most really stylised types of art. There is often a mix of structure and perspective and technical drawing.... combined with symbols and abstract features.
Once you get good at blocking in proportion with the Loomis Method you can use it to suit your own style.
It's just a tool you can use to help you draw cool stuff!
    Happy Drawing!

Tim, your work and your tutorials are so inspiring. You've given me a lot of freedom to learn in a way that keeps me going and enjoying it. Your other video on the Loomis head and this one, are the first time I've encountered anyone talking about stylized iconography. It's so helpful and so interesting to me as I try to create my own. If you already have a video that focuses on that that I can't find, someone point me in the right direction. If you don't and need another topic to do a video on, then I would love to hear you discuss the icons you need and how to create your own style.

Thanks, just found your UA-cam Drawing Codex and it’s fantastic! I had the Andrew Loomis book Heads and Hands some time ago but got frustrated with my progress and not fully understanding the book and gave up. Your way of teaching has freed up my way of learning on how to draw and use the book to its full potential . Inspirational! I have subscribed 👍🏻 and I will be looking at your channel over and over. All the best

I had the same experience I think all drawing books are like that they don't like give you an explanation even the modern ones like everyone recommends Michael Hampton's Anatomy book but he doesn't show you how to use it you basically just have to apply the knowledge that you get from it as you're drawing your drawings because there's like no exercises or anything.

Thank you for the video! I bought Drawing the Head and Hands and the figure drawing book after watching your video about what people get wrong about the Loomis- Method and it really helped me. The explanations and the plates in the books go deeper into detail than most UA-cam videos show and even a total beginner like me can understand them easily. I think there are free(copyright free?) pdf versions online too, but for practicing I really prefer a printed book.

Thank you very much for another awesome video!!!
Hope there will be more videos about drawing different full-size human body in Loomis methods, too.
Just curious, so you used line drawing to sketch out the ideas from the beginning?
I am into line drawing, but i used my ink brush to sketch the shapes instead of line drawing because i might be distracted in details drawing later.
P/s: the tiny skull is so cute, I might need one!!!!

Looks like I can't get the proportion stuff right. Might be also due to the fact I've been used to a method that is similar to loomis but slightly different.
I've been used to drawing an oval/egg shape, divide it horizontal in half to get the eyeline (not the brow), in the middle of the half is the nosetip and again half that is the mouth. Ears should end no lower than the nosetip.
This different kind of line figure makes the placing of lines from loomis very counter intuïtive. I'm used to drawing eyes on the horizontal line, while Loomis's is a bit higher and should be the brow. 😅

I bought that book but the thing I hate about art books is they don't explain anything there's no guidance or exercises. I found the language really dated I didn't even know what he was talking about until I watched proko I had no idea what he was saying in the book.

    • @TheDrawingCodex
      @TheDrawingCodex  Рік тому

Yeah fair enough! The language is quite dated and I can see how it might be hard to understand. It's mostly information. Practice drawing what you want to create (comics, manga, illustration, etc) And fold in these ideas where you can. Follow whatever teacher makes sense to you!

Sorry to hear that Kimberly! Are you watching on a small screen or a big one? I’ll see what I can do. Is tricky as often the lines I put down initially are faint. I’ll do some more in the future where I focus on the teaching and making all the lines clear.

@@TheDrawingCodex I don’t think I gave the video enough time then. I will gladly go back and try again. Thank you so much for responding. Take care
