HO Scale: Passenger Special featuring UP, KCS, Amtrak, and Santa Fe

Since I don't run a lot of passenger trains on the layout, I figured I'd best do so since last Saturday, we had more than usual running. I had my Union Pacific E9 trio out pulling some UP executives around, Dad had his Kansas City Southern special out, and Amtrak and Sante Fe make an appearance too.
My E9s are Proto2000 units that were from their very first run back in the 90s. Before they even offered B units. So I kitbashed the B out of two A unit shells. UP rebuilt the real ones back in the 90s to GP38-2 specs and I detailed these to match. Then custom painted them. They do not have sound installed, and I'm not sure they will. When they are running, they have a deep loud rumble to them so I don't know how well the sound would come through. But they are some of my all time best runners and are my most powerful consist with all the weight inside them.
The KCS is Dad's and the E3 is a Broadway Lmtd. unit with one Walthers car, a Rapido, and the tail car is brass. This was the first time he's run this one and it looked really nice. KCS did run single unit 3-5 car trains when they were in the passenger business, and this set captures that really well.
The Amtrak train belongs to our ICG fan Mike, and the Sante Fe belongs to three people. Me, Dad and John. The lead unit is Dad's, I have the second unit, and John owns the all the cars.
That's all for now, I still have a lot more footage to put together for another club video, still have the N scale club footage too... and may be getting more today as I'm going out there this afternoon. Taking a couple of my HO units for Shane (thebrakeman17) to add some very special lighting too. Stay tuned to find out what later.
Thanks for watching!
Jason

Loved seeing the Atlantic Coast Line engines in the yard.
I LOVE these model trains! Especially in HO scale!
Great fun. Love those UP E units. The first protos were great.
I love it, so excellent I enjoyed it. thanks for sharing.
Thank you. This was a fun one, glad you enjoyed it.
I have been a model railroad fanatic since I was a little boy and your layout is one more reason why I continue to love model railroading to this day. Excellent job on showing how they should be ran.
Thanks Kevin appreciate it. Glad you enjoy this and the hobby.
LOVE the UP E-Units! And Santa Fe is my favorite! Great vid!
What an absolutely FABULOUS build. Hats off to all you guys that helped!
Appreciate it, thanks!
Just one word: PERFECT !!!!! Congrats !!!
Thats two words u know
Nice layout and video! I really enjoyed the run-bys. Thanks for sharing!
The video was well worth while even just for the yard seen towards the end with the UP slowly entering along with all that wonderful rolling stock. Nice video indeed.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the show.
That last part reminds me of when I went across Canada last June aboard the VIA Canadian. In Edmonton instead of just going straight on a through track the train stopped, backed up - all 30 cars - onto a side track, then went forward again.
Yeah, sometimes they gotta do things like that. Neat to see it when they do also. Thanks for watching.
o
The variety of those passenger cars!
The layout has been put together very carefully, and it shows.
Do you own the trains and track cooperatively, between you and your dad?
All your videos on Model Trains we have watched are awesome -Thanks
oh my Gosh what a lay out awesome and very beautiful. lots of hard work gone into the same. very happy to watch the same
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
That's a very serious collection of locos & rolling stock. Thanks for posting.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. You'll get to see a lot more of that locomotive facility in the video I'm posting tomorrow.
It’s been so long since ever had a Union Pacific express. That one is so amazing as it runs down the line. To bad it stop working and my mom threw it away. That was upsetting. That was in 2013. Ever since then I never got another one. I want trains like you
Your layout is well-worth a "Like." Love the big mural that is seen as the UP train is pulling in to the yard. This is a very nice layout. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks, appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed it.
You're more than welcome, Jason.
Love the realistic layout. Broken rail ties tossed to the side. Weed infested half dried out creek bed. Weathered and probably termite ridden wood at the grade crossing. Parched grass. Oil coated rocks. Just like the real world. Only thing missing is that the train headlights do not flash alternating as it approaches the crossing. I've never seen alternating headlights on a model train as it approaches a grade crossing. I suppose it can't be done.
Sorry for the late response, but the only major railroads that have flashing ditchlights are Amtrak, NS and CSX and they only flash when the horn is blowing. So if the real ones don't, our models won't have them. But yes, it is something that is done all the time for those lines that have them. With the DCC systems, it's easy to program the locomotive sound decoders to flash the lights when you blow the horn. Glad you liked the video and thanks for the complements, it's greatly appreciated.
Alan. What a superb layout, could watch it all day.

Love the U.P. set. Thanks for the all-passenger video!
Awesome video Jason! Loved the little creek by the UP passenger train and that classic KCS train was really cool!
Thank you Bishop! That would be out Grizzly Summit module with the creek, well, small river. And yeah, that KCS train is really neat. Especially that tail car... brass. Super detailing.
Got my own set in my garage. The blue train in Africa has 30 coahes and three lovomotives. Pretty impressive train
Very interesting and entertaining. Wow, you have a lot of locomotives!
They are not all his he is a part of a club
Fantastic layout and ambient sounds 👍 Also the brilliant camera drone view well done
nice video sir , , liked the real slow go through the yard , , , lots of room for operations ,,, thanks for posting
Thanks, and yeah, not about to take a passenger train through a yard at a high rate of speed.. I mean after all.... millions would die in the crash and then there'd be countless lawsuits and all the damaged equipment and then there's the clean up and repairs. Just one giant headache. :D haha... seriously though, yeah, I designed it to be operated, so it can be fun at times. Glad you enjoyed it!
Sic just sic ! Awesome layout!
The Santa Fe Train is just beautiful, Thank-You for posting the video!
I enjoyed watching your trains. Love the UP E-9s. There is something very pleasant about UP yellow. Congratulations on such a nice layout.
Beautiful layout and great video. That's quite an impressive engine facility you have! :)
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
i didnt know a locomotive of this scale could transport that much weight ! great video!
Thanks! Yeah, they can pull quite a bit more actually.

Nice layout. Great video work.
I like trains and I like the models.
loved the crossover into the yard! that was cool!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent video! ! Passenger trains from the 1930's to Amtrak era were the best!!
Good lord that's a lotta locos! I'd really like to get into train collecting again, I just can't decide on O, or HO. Most of my memories are of Lionels. I need to find a list of pros and cons to both. This was beautiful to watch
Maaan them Lionels COSTS!
Great collection of passenger trains.
Thanks, appreciate it.
This is a nice layout
This is very, very impressive!! I really enjoyed it.
Thanks, good to hear! Appreciate it.
GREAT Looking trains here!! I particularly like the shot of the UP Special at 2:25 or so. The scenery there with the water looks SO real! Fantastic job on everything!
Very impressive....loved the Santa Fe units!
Cool, I love the HO scale trains too, great video!!!

***** Yes it is, the only problem is they like to come off the track easily
I love the streamliners. Nicely done.
Thanks, appreciate it!
Cool railroad layout.
Very beautiful, this model!
Great video thanks
Wow! First of your videos I've seen and absolutely love the layout! Love running Amtrak consists myself so it'd be nice to see more of those. Subscribed for sure!
Thanks, appreciate it! There will be more Amtrak on the way, I literally just finished (for the most part) putting together an Amtrak train of my own. So in a few weeks I'll be posting an Amtrak featured video.

Beautiful passengers, beautiful fucking video
neat video dude! your UP train is freaking nice! Will have to show this to dad, as he likes these streamlined locomotives. Looking forward also to this "Special Lighting"...
Thanks Spencer! Yeah, I'm looking forward to it also, I just hope it works out. This will be Shane's first attempt at it so we'll see how it goes. If you watch Josh (NSmodeler24) then you've already seen what it is. :D
+Railfan Jason *wink wink* I gotcha. Is it the WLE UNIT???

Very nice
Great video....
Super models i like it
After watching this video, I am thoroughly convinced there is no actual railroad in existence that has as much rolling stock and assorted road power then you.
It's a sickness. >
Nice video Jason! It was nice to see the passenger trains.

Looks almost real.
Woah! You sir have earned a like. You must get a good pay grade if you have all those! That's about... 5k? Maybe that's too much? Most train engines are 300-500 and I saw a big boy model train today it was 1000 dollars!!
heh... well, this is a club, so a lot of people are involved. No way it is all mine :D
If the choice is between another purse for my wife, always remind her you can only use them one of the time making them envious.
Fortunately, I'm single and don't have that issue. :D
Single!... that means who could be the owner of the Southern Pacific & Santa Fe .. :D
Lol.
It's obvious you (Jason) put a lot of love and effort and talent into your hobby and I applaud you for it but have you ever considered "weathering" your engines and rail cars? It would add another level of authenticity to your already awesome work.
Nice model train
Awesome lineup, Jason! I really like streamlines and that classic SF. paint scheme. Tried slowing it down, but am curious-do you have the City Of Salina or Cheyenne cars in that UP consist?
Thanks John. I don't have the list with me, but if I recall, the tail car is the Cheyenne, and I think one of the others is the Salina. I'll have to find the list to verify though.
The turnouts looks pretty awesome
Amazing!
SO COOL
fantastic !!!
Great effort
Excellent!!!
Thanks!
