In Shadows of the Empire, Vader would lift the chamber door and learn to breath on his own. He was able to do it for 2 minutes. He surmised that when he could breathe on his own, he would confront the Emperor.
I read that book also and he was able to sit naked (I do NOT want to see that ugh) in what was called the "hyperbaric medical chamber" for brief periods of time as the air was extra well oxygenated but then in the novelization of REVENGE OF THE SITH it was stated that he did not have lungs anymore AT ALL and only lived with artificial lungs, as opposed to DAMAGED LUNGS that needed the respirator to help him breathe. Too many cooks spoiled the soup in this fictional universe now riddled with continuity inconsistencies.
Vader would have literally turned into Darth Sion if he relied on his anger to survive without his suit permanently.
Maybe but with that little bit anakin inside of him it would not work out like that.

He wanted everyone to think of him as a mechanical droid, no wonder he hated that people see his face.
When I first saw the movie as a small child I actually thought he was a ROBOT and did not realize he was a person at first.
So he can survive without the suit for a while if his anger acts kinda as adrenaline to keep him going? That's fascinating
God, Vader wouldn’t be iconic if he didn’t have the suit after being so injured, he’d be nightmare fuel.
If Kotor were to be canon again then he definitely would. Darth Sion was literally fractured and immortal because of his hate.
I think his force abilities add an extra layer of explanation but aren't even necessary. His lungs are *damaged* , not completely non-functional, without his mask he does seem to be portrayed as moving and breathing like someone with severe COPD (rather than instant death). Also, all those times his life support system was damaged in a fight he was pumped up on adrenaline!
This is a very good explanation. It also makes Vader/Anakin similar to Darth Sion the Lord of pain, from KOTOR 2.
For those of you who don’t know, Darth Sion was basically a walking corpse who relied completely on his rage, hate and never ending pain to keep going. He embarrassed pain as strength and it would hold his decaying body together to keep his soul intact. He was an undead immortal, if you will.
It seems that many Sith over the years used their pain and rage to keep going. To name a few there’s: Darth Sion, Darth Malgus, Darth Maul, and of course Darth Vader. Some may even argue that Darth Sidious did this to “survive” until Rise of Skywalker. Technically Sidious used Essence Transfer when to get into the body on Exigol when Vader threw him over the edge in ROTJ, but the “new” body looked like it was hanging by a thread. He looked kinda undead in Rise of Skywalker.
Vaders order is soooooo underated
Maybe Vader could have healed himself if he fully committed to the light side of the force after killing the Emperor. But what would be the point? He fulfilled the prophecy and served his purpose. The Rebels would see him as a monster and wouldn’t be as understanding and forgiving as Luke I believe. I also like to imagine that he was closer to Padmé as a force ghost. That’s also part of the reason he let go I would argue.

Darth sign or how ever you spell his name, he survived for a long time with a lot of injuries that should have killed him many times over.
So, Kenobi series was mistaken. He could have fought. In the canon comics he could even defeat a jedi without his arms and his suit destroyed.

Solution: Just use both sides depending on the situation.
That is what the Jed-I did.
His ear drums wasn't damaged his hearing was ok the fire didn't get through his ears only the outside skin of his ears was burned otherwise he couldn't hear at all
Another example of a Sith using the Dark side to stay alive is look at Darth Sion from the Old Republic almost every bone in his body was broken and shattered and he’s body was literally rotting he was able to stay alive by clinging onto the dark side and he only died when decided to let go of the dark side of the force

I would actually disagree that his anger was the only thing keeping him alive when his mask broke or was off. Irl people get burns of that severity and still survive. It's not pretty and being able to function is pretty difficult but it's possible to survive. Anakin would need to be kept on life support for a little while for his body to heal which the suit no doubt helped with but afterwards he could've lived without it. I'd say the suit more serves to provide functionality as well as making breathing and talking easier. Like someone who can breathe but carries around an oxygen tank because their body doesn't get enough oxygen without it
Anakin Skywalker is the father of the force. The force then did everything to keep Vader alive. Yes a massive portion of his power was lost; with his fight with Obi Wan Kenobi. But his suit gave him a massive advantage; which made him inhuman.
So if anakin never looked at his body being healed and continued healing would it have worked?
Do you know at the end of The phantom menace. Darth Maul ended up just like his lightsaber. Cut in half. Come to think of it. That's some really ironic bad luck. lol!

In attack of the clones anakin told padme he couldn't breath without her, and after she dies he ends up in a suit that breathes for him

Does this video imply that Anakin or Vader could have potentially healed himself in his entirety? Regrown his limbs, new healthy skin, fully intact lungs, eyes with perfect vision, healthy regrown hair, etc?
Not exactly, he’d still need cybernetics and his body would still be mostly machine but he’d be able to reverse the burn scars and possibly grow hair. I’m not too sure about the lung situation but the breathing apparatus he had was outdated so there’s probably a much better mechanical version he could upgrade to.

The answer is yes. If there is a writer, there is a way. Dont forget, somehow "Palpatine returned" was enough deep story telling to make a full length movie bringing him back very briefly so his woke mary sue grand daughter can send him back to force heaven until the next time.
