An accusation of a Lesbian affair in 19th century Scotland

Special Collections Assistant, Alex Wilson introduces the story of schoolteachers Marianne Woods (1781-1870) and Jane Pirie (1779-1833). In 1810 the Edinburgh boarding school they founded was closed amid accusations by their pupil Jane Cumming who informed her grandmother that the two teachers were in a sexual relationship.
