I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. Think it’s probably caused by using the drawer handle for lifting the top part of the box up when you want to seperate from the base. A couple of small screws countersunk through the ends of the handle does the trick
The older style deep drawer like that on my Inception Station looks like it's all one piece, there's no rubbery feel to it at all, and it doesn't have the tube moulded in to the narrow section for the locking peg, so they've clearly tweaked things over time. The currently available versions of the deep drawer unit look like they're the same between Absolute/Inception to me, but from what I can find, do have different part numbers.
John,you should of used a cable tie as a welding rod,as it would of added strength to the handle.
