    I understand, "there's a lot going on" Although the production of the show "is" important, if it wasn't for the horses being adopted, horses being taken care of, horses being trained, horses being nurtured, horses dealing with stress and disease, and the last act of kindness, and dealing with people to adobt or drop off. I've seen too many people beg for money, then when there are more people helping, bosses tend to recieve higher salary than before and less work. Please be careful in this, that you don't lose the meaning and the love for the reason why this place is what it is today.
    I have a lot of respect for the you, the workers, the horses and the decisions that are made.
    Be careful, you don"t lose focus of where you came from and where your headed.
    I'm not saying this to hurt your feelings at all. I just wanted to put it out there.

    • @rosegarden9575

      I believe that's this is one main thing Tawnee is absolutely awesome about is maintaining the focus of the rescue on the animals.
      Plus, the fact their number of adoptions have increased dramatically!
      The # of available horses is LESS than the adopted for the month! This is a good bellwether of focus on the animals, IMO.
      I don't see any designer jeans or handbags yet! 🤣

      They have addressed it, several times. Jessie, Maddy and Sarah were all let go because they were working the auctions and riding on sick and skinny horses. Also were consorting with the kill buyers, which was all in violation of what HPHS stands for. This happened last November. I think that other stuff was going on, such as not following orders. 13:11 _ if I had surrendered my horse each time he behaved like a stallion, he would not have spent 26 years with me. He calmed down with the years. And learned. It was not all the time but with some mares. I always warned stable owners that he'd be a bit "bossy" and macho. Some sent me off right away, others said, ok, come, we'll see. You can also give some homeopathic stuff and things cool down.

    Greetings.... from the Western North Carolina Mountains...! FYI.....Although we can control horses through "moving" their feet/legs.....and looking at the legs, not the eyes of the horse, while doing this...... "Alpha" is a 'control' term associated with "pack" animals..... not herd animals. Please let us know what has become of Jesse, Sarah and Madie.... they were a big part of the care and training of the horses at the farm....and it seems they have just "up and disappeared".

    Alpha theory was disproven by the guy who named it that.
    Horses don't have alphas even leaders is debatable. Horses don't just go around pushing eachother around it's done for resources.
    *So why do we roundpin?*
    Horses are flighty animals so we take advantage of that by pushing them away we can be safer and in a roundpin they can't leave (we can also teach them way easier). What we're wanting is for them to look at us, listen and pay attention then we let them stop and think. We then walk away creating a draw but it's more so spiking their interest or curiosity.
    You can get a horse to follow you even without making them move just by spiking their curiosity. Such as waving a flag or moving till their ears or head flicks to you and you stop, they loose interest and you repeat. This spikes the horses curiosity and they'll come up to you and follow you.
    *What Makes A Good Leader?*
    Leaders in herds aren't the most dominant but the ones who are most aware, Equine find comfort and safety in a herd because they know how intuned each other are. To be seen, to be heard to be understood. *Of course an Equine will listen to a more dominant leader out of fear but they won't be as relaxated making them more jumpy.*

    • @introvertedequinesamsara6593
      @introvertedequinesamsara6593 2 роки тому +2

      With donkeys and mules this where alot of people have problems as they're not as flighty as horses are. You can't just make them move as they're smart, you have to give them a reason to move or to listen to you. Which is why alot of standard training methods you use with horses won't work on them.
      Methods such as CAT-H and R+ work exstremely well on these equine.

    • @introvertedequinesamsara6593
      @introvertedequinesamsara6593 2 роки тому +3

      @@sallywaites8517 I never said it didn't work..What Cory was doing wasn't wrong but it's not how I'd word it or the type of mindset I'd have with it. As you'll get idiots beating their horses to show em who's boss/alpha.
      Horsemanship is the most common training method with horses as it's the easiest to do, even someone with zero horse experience can run a horse around in a roundpin and get the horse to do things for them especially when the horse is scared what will happen if they don't listen.
      Also to add onto this, *horsemanship actually makes alot of abused horses worse* as they shut down Pressure and Release is the huge factor of that. Shut down horses can be more dangerous as they block everything out, so when they pop out of being shutdown they're seen as unpredictable.

    • @Areyousayingidontknowmyname

      Technically in the world of horses its the Mare. So its a Omega. That rules the roost.

    • @introvertedequinesamsara6593
      @introvertedequinesamsara6593 2 роки тому +4

      @@Areyousayingidontknowmyname omega in the outdated since means the lowest in the pecking order. Dominance doesn't equal being the leader but it equals survival so with wild horse herds both mares and stallions are mostly equal. The mares decide when to mate, where to go, knowing the land etc while the stallions job is to protect, mate and keep everyone together. Which is why you'll see the stallion hanging in the back or middle of the herd rarely in front unless there's a threat.
      In captivity it's way different. We aren't having stallions and mares together. And alot of the roles these horses had in the wild are not needed in captivity. Such as protection, breeding, keeping the herd together, traveling etc so the stallions/geldings loose alot of their use in the herd. But some geldings can still show stud behavior in keeping the herd together which is often done without the concent of the other geldings and mares.
      *In captivity there is alot more violence and aggression towards eachother over limited resources, lack of socialization and boredom which people often mistake for the boss horse.*

    Really wish we could see more positive training methods being used with these horses. Dominance "alpha" theory has already been debunked in wolves, we know it doesn't apply for dogs, but still using it on horses?

    • @TrineMoller

      There is allways a leader in a herd or a pack. Some call it alpha, some call it a leader 😊

    • @rosegarden9575
      @rosegarden9575 2 роки тому +1

      Check out Pat Parelli or Craig Cameron on UA-cam for references...both are legends in Natural Horsemanship. They talk about the fact that there is a hierarchy in a herd and a leader...to be safe and effective that leader needs to be the human.
      Same is true of dogs and Wolves just take a look at Cesar Milan training with packs of dogs also on UA-cam. I don't know where you got your info that the hierarchy of packs or herds is debunked?

    • @singularity613
      @singularity613 2 роки тому +1

      @@rosegarden9575 the guy who came up with the 'Alpha" theory observed only captive wolves and has spent a very long time recanting his words and trying to tell people that he was wrong. Cesar Milan uses outdated training methods and his methods have been rejected by the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior.
      I don't know much about Pat Parelli or the other fellow you mentioned, but some much better natural horsemanship trainers are Buck Brannaman and Warwick Schiller.
      The thing is, dominance-based training IS outdated. Pressure-Release works, but R+ training has been proven as the best way to train animals, especially dogs and horses. Most mustang trainers I follow actually use a combination of pressure and release and R+.
      Being a leader isn't inherently a bad thought process to have, but you need to remember even in wild herds the hierarchy isn't always set and leaders will change frequently based on resources available and the changing environments. With domestic herds, that can still be true, but environmental conditions and resources available tend to be much more steady, and herd members don't tend to change frequently, so there's not as much of a need for the hierarchy to be challenged.
      For wolves (and coyotes), there is no such thing as alphas. Packs are family units, consisting of the breeding pair/parents and their offspring, and sometimes other wolves allowed into the pack.

    • @singularity613
      @singularity613 2 роки тому +1

      @@TrineMoller Leia is right, the alpha-dominance theory is old and outdated, and has been debunked by the very man that created it.
      Wolf packs are family units consisting of the parents and their offspring, so it's only natural that the parents tend to be more "dominant" than their offspring, just like with humans.
      For horses - it's been a well-known fact that "leaders" of herds (wild or domestic) can and will change depending on environmental conditions, availability of resources, and changing of herd members. Though there tends to always be 1 stallion per wild herd and 1 mare who shows more dominance than the others, it's never consistent.
      Being a leader is more about building trust and giving guidance than just TELLING them what to do. And as humans, we are capable of much more than just simply being the most dominant one in the field.

    • @TrineMoller
      @TrineMoller 2 роки тому

      @@singularity613 I know. But your dog consider you the leader, not like alpha, but the member of the family who cares for them and work together with them. As an owner of two Tibetan Mastiffs I know that. If you try the alphashit on them, they will never trust you. Cooperation and trust are the only thing that works. BUT there are a leader that they look to for advice, so it really does not matter what name you put on that human ;-) That was what I ment 🙂

      She doesn't say anything about her ridning them. But I've thought about this a lot of times watching these videos. Is there a weight limit for riders who adopt? I live in Sweden and most riding schools would have a pretty strict limit, although depending on the riders balance and experience.
      I'm not familiar with western saddles, but they look heavier than English ones. That would mean extra weight. I might be wrong though.

    • @HughLlewellyn
      @HughLlewellyn 2 роки тому +2

      Some people are adopting horses as pasture pets. Some for their kids or riding programs. The adopters you see may not be riders themselves. Never ASSume. Seriously.
      Also, a general rule of thumb is a horse can safely carry 20% of their weight, although shorter coupled horses can handle more weight than those with longer, weaker backs. All adopters at HPHS have been thoroughly vetted for suitability before being approved for adoption. How 'bout y'all let THEM be the judges of who's appropriate to adopt to.
