Absolutely. There's a reason I cancelled my cable subscription years ago and now almost exclusively watch quality content-creators like this. This has a true sense of purpose to it (the same cannot be said of most TV shows).

      There's a reason I don't watch TV anymore.
      Not even the News.
      It is all bs
Thus is real honest hard working people doing real stuff without the trying to pull the wool over our eyes.
Cody has 13 years of video's.
Go binge watch them and do Catchup.
You'll soon fling your cable TV in the bin.

I'm from NJ...I can't stand the impatience of people from this area. I'm loving the pace of this series. I built a bench very similar to this about 3 years ago, and I think this series demonstrates how tough a build like this can be. Totally worth it. A fellow woodworker saw it and said my grandkids would be using it some day.

🤣 east coast guy here (Maine). I really enjoyed your woodworking shop build. I often watch them too just relax. I enjoy the longer process and the thoughts behind it. I am hoping for more woodworking projects in the future. Anyone who had ever done any woodworking knows it always takes 5 times longer than most people think...because in woodworking, nothing is quick.

As someone who watches your videos to learn, I’m always pleased by your slow and steady-methodical is a good word-pace and approach to the work. This isn’t a lego set, and if you haven’t been through it a dozen times, building something like this beautiful bench is a task with steps that you wouldn’t know you didn’t know if you hadn’t seen them done well and at a pace where you can see each part of the work clearly.

You hit the nail on the head when it comes to borrowing things from others, Cody! I’d also say that if you need to borrow a tool twice from someone, it’s time to purchase that tool for yourself. That’s how it was when I was a diesel mechanic and it’s always good to be more self reliant anyhow. Thanks for the great content.

  • @dogbugler

Say hey Wranglerstar. I cannot begin to thank you enough for such exsquisite detail you go through in making your projects so beautiful and detailed. You have given me a great deal of inspiration from this most recent project. I will attempt to make myself a workbench similar to yours. I have been blessed from one of my brothers whom is truley the most gifted with his hands and eyes. I have worked with him and learned how to use the great tools I have.
    Can't wait to get started.
BTW, you hit it out the park by suggesting folks to clean up borrowed tools. I have loaned out a chainsaw and lawn tractor...costs me hundreds to fix or replace them.
    Stay Safe, Bee Well.
    Regards,
    Doug, N.Tx.

  • @evvlb2

Total agree with you if you borrow it it comes back better then new. If it has a motor and oil look black change it. Full tank of gas. And my rule is if I have to borrow it twice then maybe I should own that tool. If practical that is.

IN my trade i apply the same pholisophy. The tool goes back cleaned, oiled and ON the box, not in it so I am not rooting through their stuff. It's not your box, stay out of it. AND, if I borrow three times, I buy it. Because it also courteous to not have to go bakc a dozen times to keep using their tool. That's taking advantage of their generosity.

I have 3 of his bench vises. They out lasted him but every time I use one I’m always thinking of him. I got one that I remember playing with since I was about 6-7 years old and I’m 35 now... Oh and those people nagging on you being to slow or making mistakes, just ignore them, i like when its taking you 5 videos to glue some 2×4s together. It not always about the work you do its also a big thing when you tell stories or really get down to details with stuff, it takes time and thats how it should be! There will always be haters and "i could do so much better" guys but its just empty words. None of them is sacrificing so much time and effort as you do making these videos! They have no clue how much working hours is spent to create what you do, so i say f*** them!

    I heard that!
I got nothing to do and all day to do it!
Most folks don’t realize how long it takes to get things done properly. I can’t remember when everything went exactly as planned, that’s why one has to know how to mitigate any given situation, problem, and/or design change that can happen/occur. I feel like we are hanging out during you’re video’s.
I’m the friend who doesn’t actually help just relaxes in your favorite chair and drinks your beverages, gives words of encouragement/discouragement, a inappropriate joke or two, but when not around you can’t figure out why you miss that person.

I remember when you built your woodworking bench, the EXACT same complaints were made. I remember making a comment then and it still applies today. To do it right, It takes several days to build something like this. If you want daily videos then you are only going to get to see what was done that day! Great job Wranglerstar! I wish i could do this style of video on my channel and show just what I do each day, but I struggle with my editing and usually end up doing a recap type video.

Probably a dumb question, but aren't those 2x4s kiln dried?

    • @Michael-ds3bd

Yeah he told us that in the first video. Why?

    • @tinkls57

All commercial 2x4 are kiln dried

    • @tinkls57
      @tinkls57 4 роки тому +4

That being said. Just because its kiln dried doesn't mean its truly dry. Mist construction lumber is considered"dry" at like 16% most places in the U.S the woood should reach its equilibrium at like 8-9% moisture

  • @chrisgraham2904

I was always taught and practiced the process of sealing all finished wood products on all sides to prevent warping. This prevents a variation of moisture levels on opposite sides of the board as it continues to breath and move. Even more advisable when building from softwood lumber. Your caution on the end-grain is a good one. Since your building an aireloom that may still be serving it's purpose a hundred years from now, sealing the underside of the bench would be good insurance.

Your belts are directional they have an arrow inside & shouldn’t belt sand across the grain.

I used a belt sander. Borrowed, took back in better condition, with all the unused belts I bought! I bunggied the vacuum hose to the sander, made everything much nicer. Great job!

Love the series Cody! I just bought a 25yo house on 1/3 acre in south Texas and has a 500 square foot shop out back unfinished inside. I will be building a work bench and storage out there. First though, the house needs popcorn celling gone, paint, flooring, kitchen and bathroom update so I’m sure my shop will be last. All good though, keep up the good work, God Bless.

I enjoyed the series a lot. I learned a bunch. I'm from the East Coast 😄and I had no problem with the series broken up. Gave me something to look forward to. Love the channel. I also REALLY enjoyed your approach from the point of view from someone just starting out and using budget friendly tools and materials.

Personally, I love the pace you set with your videos. If I want a quick video tutorial, there are plenty out there to watch. I enoy the slower pace and explanations you present. Keep up the fantastic work, my brother!

I’m really enjoying these videos as I’m about to do the same project. I just bought a house a little under two years ago and I need NEED a good work table or two.
I especially loved your advice on giving back tools in better shape. I’ve always done that and always will and I wish everyone around the world could gear that advice. It doesn’t matter if you used a shovel or a power tool, clean it and fix/replace it if it broke while you were using it.

as an east coaster, I think videos like this are your better ones. and when you used the air to blow off the dust, I could hear my shop teacher telling us about the "dangers of compressed air"lol.

A trick I learned for cleaning up glue is getting myself a two-handed paint scraper from home depot. They're great for a lot of things so I got my money's worth, but it works amazing for scraping the glue off to save planer blades, belts and time sanding.

You are a real gentleman. I like how considerate you are and how you you explain things in detail to those of us who are not experts in woodworking.
Keep on producing videos to this standard and people will watch and appreciate.
    Thank you and well done.

Love the series. As soon as you put a timeframe on a certain project it starts turning into a job you enjoy less and less. There is not much more relaxing than being able to go out and work on a project at your own pace.
