  • This video is all about drawing the neck from anatomical reference. This is step one in my process for figure study. Once we have a good grasp of the underlying structure, we'll move on to step two in my three step process. Hopefully this breakdown series will help you learn not only the muscles of the neck, but also an effective process for taking your study all the way through to your final drawings.

One of the most overlooked tutorial subjects. Thanks Dave! Hope that soon we can get a tutorial for bending/twisting the torso/body in different positions. Hey david! Was wondering if you’ve ever done a drawing where you show the very start too the very end. I’ve watched some of the livestream are very useful but often I see that the figure is so lightly sketched I can’t see it and i’d love to see it all happen in one video.

If I can put in a request... The movement of muscles in the forearm in relation to the rotation of the wrist/radius is a fuzzy area for me. I'd love to hear you talk about it. Shoulder movement in the back -- is like a magic trick that I'd love to learn as well.
    Meanwhile, thanks for this one!

The most visible muscle in the neck is the sterno-cleido-mastoidian, it starts on the mastoid process just behind the ear, and ends one part on the sternum, the other on the clavicula. The large one on the back is the trapezius, and the ones underneath are the scalenous (3 of them). They originate on the vertebras of the neck and ends on the first two ribs.

  • @samankucher5117

the neck muscles are very cool it can make or break a drawing:)

  • @sarahsolangechannel1631

what you mentionned to be the shoulder at 2:50. Is actually still the trapezius. Underneath lies the supraspinatus. it goes IN to the shoulder. The shoulder, meaning the deltoideus is much lower around the shoulderplate and lower than the clavicula that you draw right there very accurately :)

Please David do a video about drawing the OTHER eye, or if you have any advice i will be more than happy to hear it, for me drawing one eye is easy, but no matter how many times i try to draw the other eye that's farther from the viewer it doesn't look right, and drawing the skull doesn't help me.
