Tracy Chapman is a legend. I remember hearing this all the time as a kid. It's one of the songs that got me into making music. I can still hear that guitar riff to this day.
Soft rock is a lame description. This could be included in country genre, but it’s ACTUALLY folk music. She’s a folk musician. This song is so upsetting I can’t hear it and not cry. It’s extremely adult: you must have had very deep heartbreak, a shattering of dreams about love, to entirely feel this content. And yet. She’s experienced, she’s learned that most people are cowards. She picks herself up, accepts that she’s been disappointed (again) by someone she set her hopes on. She accepts that her struggles continue: it takes a couple/few of these hard experiences to be able to pick yourself up and just carry on -what choice do we have really? In the end we MUST be self-reliant. She has other great tracks, great albums, you’ll love them like this, they’re always meaningful, never shallow. [PS: I miss your red hair! 😉 but look forward to whatever you do next😁]
Very talented singer songwriter and deserves to be on this list.
