SPOILERY MAYBE? but still just a speculation cause NOTHING has been confirmed. (that i know).
Ok, so they are my new obsession and everytime theres a mention of them in the books i squee, i can't help it. This can be considered SPOILERY, but it is actually just a theory or more of a SPECULATION going around the fandom about what really happened between rhaegar and lyanna and the mystery behind who's jon snow's mother really is.
I APOLOGIZE, for not putting much clips from GOT, and i only worked with clips that i already had and used them for l&r part (most of them are from merlin, and its seems to be more of an AU vid of Morgana&Arthur but oh well xD) so i apologize....
I find Rhaegar & Lyanna's story to be particularly amazing and bittersweet and if there is ever a spinoff i would totally dig my hands on it if it was about them! What can i say? Im a sucker for tragic stories. see my track record....

Meh Elia Martell's story is more tragic, being left behind by your husband and being killed savagely she suffered the most from other people's actions .
I always feel bad for her. She didn't deserve none of that.
A prince who had everything he ever wanted, wanted the one woman he could never have and everything fell apart because of it. And the saddest part: I think she wanted him too. :,(

Safe to say Lyanna was enchanted by Rhaegar just as much as he was with her.
They're love story is so tragic! I hope HBO makes a prequel to GoT showing they're part of the story

Zenaida Huerta Yep and I didn't even agree to Robb's decision... Red Wedding might be his fault but there was no honor on it. The Freys tricked him and as much as I love the Starks, god knows how naive they can be... but hey, even the readers didn't see it coming...
Andreea Kaulitz I do hope you read the book because only Jaime loved Cersei. Cersei only likes sleeping with him because he looks like her. She only loves herself. Also, she sleeps with anyone she can use. As for Dany and Drogo, though I really adore them, no one could deny that Drogo raped Dany. It was even creepier when you think about how Dany just sucked it all up and accepted the man anyway. Besides, did I say that only Rhaegar and Lyanna did it? Anyway, what I find more despicable is the fact that Rhaegar is a married man with two kids who eloped with a 16 yr. old girl. And If I'm not mistaken, he was in his forties. GRRM hasn't revealed what happened yet but I hope it didn't just happen that way. I hope some circumstance made them do such thing. To be more precise, I hope they didn't elope because If they actually did, I might dislike them both even if this event was just a catalyst for the rebellion. It's despicable, he was a married man!

Jenna Marisco Well in his defense he and everyone else though Rhaegar kidnapped her. Brandon was just doing what any good brother would have done and was trying to keep his sister from getting raped. The whole thing was caused by two people's love (Lyanna, and Rhaegar), one man's madness, one man's wrath (Robert) and alot of bad communication.

Alexander Forbes Also lack of any decision making by women at that period made it impossible for Lyanna to just say "I love Rhaegar and I don't want Robert." The Stark parents as much as they like to think they are superior were very much like the Lannisters who told their children "You will marry because it is your duty". A lot how Ned had to marry Cat without any encounter between them simply because she was promised to Brandon.

Yeah, all odds were against Lyanna and Rhaegar. He was married out of duty, she was to be married out of duty. Even if House Stark broke her engagements with Robert Baratheon - Rhaegar would still be married to Elia Martell and Dornish lords would not look favorably to the idea of him taking another wife - neither would Starks as well. Pity though because a sane Targaryen and broad minded Stark make perfect match (maybe that is yet to happen with certain couple...)
I finished the fifth book about a month ago and then I found a video about this theory and was blown away. I never would have come up with it on my own, but I can totally see it now, and I can't get enough of these videos! Yours is especially well done.
And people said it was too cliché for Jon to be their son, so they had to come up with better theories.

Rhaegar obviously. When did George Martin say that they were in love? Robert said her name during the bedding with Cersei. Catelyn didn't want to marry Ned either, and look how that marriage turned out.

+NAITO KID FWIW Rhaegar wasn't as good of a warrior as Robert, he was good, but prime Robert was very, very good. Rhaegar is definitely a fan favorite though given his character and personality.

This by far as to be my all time favorite version of the Lyanna, Rhaegar and Robert story! Every part was cast SO perfectly, I honestly don't think I'll ever see any other actors as Lyanna, Rhaegar and Robert from now on, the manips were so perfect it could very well have been lost footage from the show and the way you set the scenes was so fluid to the story, I really hope you do more of these 3 in the future because this is definitely a new ship for me! Loved the ArMor aspect by the way!!!

I remember when I read the first book some time ago, I was always asking myself "what did Ned promise her, 'cause it seems important, it can't be about the place where she wanted to be buried". Then, when I read about the theory, it was like my eyes saw light for the first time. I can't wait for it to be confirmed by George RR Martin himself, I can't remember ever being more curious about something. Amazing vid, best I've seen on R&L, congrats!

I agree with you about Ned's honor. This could be the promise that he made to Lyanna on her deathbed, keep Jon's identity a secret (or at the very least, keep him alive)

Every time I think back on the Tower of Joy I think of Ned and the heartbreak he must of been through. To see his beloved sister dying there and throughout all of that emotion was still able to make that promise. He was able to forsake his honor that he knew would be questioned for Lyanna. Ned is such a tragic hero. Cause in the end when dead things and worse come after the realm Jon Snow will be there saving the realm.

Exactly, what people don't even understand is, Lyanna wasn't the MAIN reason the war happened, shit got fucked up when Aerys burned Neds father and his brother, then Jon Arryn called up arms and Robert and Ned raised their bannermen for war. Had an explanation been given initially by Aerys, or some sort of understanding, the war wouldn't have happened. The actual trigger was JON ARRYN

Lyanna was like her brother Brandon, she thought with swords (won against her younger brother as well), rode horses and is pretty much who Arya takes after. She isn't the damsel in distress and wouldn't let Rhaegar kidnap her without a fight plus there is also the fact that Rhaegar was a completely loved and not crazy like his father. So large possibility is that she went with him willingly.

Because even if it's sad, most of GoT fans have a doubt that they ever love each other. It was arranged marriage and if Rhaegar truly loved he's wife, he will never did with Lyanna things, what he did. Even Barristan Selmy said "Rhaegar loved his lady Lyanna (...)". Lyanna, not Elia. Nobody in Westeros (from people, whose have POVs and thinking about Rhaegar) think that Rhaegar loved Elia.

I agree about Lyanna not being the main reason for Robert's Rebellion, but you could say that she was the straw that broke the camel's back. Aerys had been mostly sane, but got worse every year, especially after his captivity with the Blackfyres if I recall correctly. His clear insanity would be reason enough for a coup, but Lyanna's kidnapping/elopement hurt the Starks and the Baratheons.
Robert just had his pride hurt. He couldn't stand the thought that Lyanna didn't share his feelings and so he demonized Rhaegar for it. Besides, we know from Lyanna that he couldn't keep to one bed; "love is sweet, dearest Ned, but it can't change a man's nature." Meanwhile, she was fussing over Rhaegar at Harrenhall and his music brought her to tears. It more probable that they met after she unhorsed the three knights as the Laughing Tree and then eloped a year later before she had to marry Rob

I'm sure people remember her, but in the books it was said that Aegar (sorry my spelling is a bit crap of their names) kind of forced their marriage, when he sent Lord Steffon (Rob's, Renly's, Stannis' father) quote "to find him a wife since he didn't have sisters to wed". Rhaegar probably didn't love her, and she might not have loved him either, since Ned didn't even mention jealousy in her when he placed a flower crown on Lyanna's lap. I think it was just their duty not a real marriage

The ultimate question that when asked GRRM said it will all come to fruition. So the events at the end of Dance are not definite. Jon will find out about this and I feel once he realizes he is a dragon the dragon will wake inside of him.

Remember that with Elia, Rhaegar's wife they first had a daughter that looked like her mother and had the dornish look instead of the targaryen look, so it is a strong possibility that jon may be rhaegar's son and lyanna's (considering that he has the stark's looks and Ned is too honorable to cheat on his wife and too honorable not to keep his promise to his beloved sister)
When GOT ends HBO should make a short prequel of Lyanna & Rhaegar's story from their meeting thru Robert's Rebellion. That would be a fantastic movie or series in it's own right!
That's just my take on the Aery's theory. I also don't think Ned would be as hesitant as he was to be involved in Robert's plan to kill Dany. I really believe we do not know all of what was said or transpired between Ned and Lyanna. Something tells me more will be told. Definitely something to the degree that she loved Rhaegar, got married and let Jon know when the time is right. I think that is why Ned thinks of Jon lastly before he dies. He regrets not being able to tell Jon.
GRRM was approached by a lot of writers and producers to make GoT either a movie or a TV show. GRRM asked the HBO guys D.B. Weis and David Benioff the ultimate question, "Okay if your that much into my books, who is Jon Snow's mother?".........Obviously HBO Dudes got it RIGHT and gave us the hardcore fans the initiative to research it and investigate it and this is where were at now!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree. Even if Brandon doesn't act smart with arrived to King's Landing for Rhaegar's head, all war began because of Aerys's crazy shit. Lyanna was minor reason. Maybe for Robert she was a main, but not for the rest.

I totally agree! And from other character's story Rhaegar doesn't looks like cynic son of bitch, who would named "Tower of Joy" a place, when he raped innocent girl so many times. Even Ned, he remembers Rhager as a gentle man too.

This theory has to be true. Lyanna was being protected by 3 of the Kingsguard who were all fierce warriors. Also, the only sensible explanation as to the cause of her death is childbirth. If she was ill she would surely have maesters and healers with her to help her

The promise is easily for the prophesized prince the prince that was promised. Jon Snow. Amazing supporters who are against the R+L=J concept can never explain what the promise is if it is not Jon.

I am fairly near 100% positive that he is indeed A'zor A'hai. And I think that A-A and the PtwP are the same person. Jon's life was based off a promise. I am glad we share the same sentiments.
actually, in the books they describe the starks with dominant dark hair, and with dark eyes, only sansa and rob are described more like their mother, but jon snow, they describe him with dark hair (stark hair) and grey eyes, which could be rhaegar's eyes. idk this is just a speculation but it has been said that to keep the line the targaryens used to lay with each other so that every targaryen could be of silver hair and blue eyes what happens when they do not lay with another targaryen?

Aerys was never around Lyanna within the time period she would of had Jon. The last time Aerys was near Lyanna was at Harrnehal which is a good year plus to when Jon is born. Aerys never left KL after the tourney and Rhaegar never brought Lyanna to KL. GRRM has said it Jon's parents involves a Luke Skywalker situation and I believe this is where the Aerys theory has stemmed from, but Vader turns out to be good/do good things. Aerys never was, but we know Rhaegar was actually pretty noble.
Even this theory Rhaegar/Lyanna is most likely, one thing is againt it. Rhaegar had silver hair... which makes Jon Snow out of Targaryen blood...
as in not a real love. maybe Rhaegar always had a thing for Lyanna (myb it was mutual, I doubt she wanted to marry Rob knowing he'd be a cheater), because the whole story of her capture, everyone is basically reciting Rob's version as if he just went around telling it until they all bought it. Even though his father was mad and no one denied it, Rhaegar was respected even by Ned and even Dani was always thinking of her noble brother, not her father the king, but her brother.
That view of Rhaegar is only related by Robert who was bias, everyone else remembers him fondly even Ned. Lyanna Stark wasn't the type to get kidnapped if you know what I mean

it was defiance of duskendale, not related to blackfyres, but yeah, kidnapping lyanna wouldn´t be enough. those things happen. i believe rhaegar married her secretly and left, so he could wait for people to calm down and then negotiate lyanna being his 2nd wife with all parties included. he didn´t expect brandon threatening him openly, which is a crime, and king´s reaction. after he killed so many nobles including lord of the north and his heir, there was no way back.

Robert and Rhaegar were two distinctly different types of hot.
Robert looked like Joe Manganello(True Blood). Six and a half Tall, muscled like a Destrier(war horse), lustrous black hair and chiseled chin. The throw you over his shoulder and ravish you type of macho man.
Rhaegar was like Robert Pattinson/Orlando Bloom with long pale blonde hair. The strong, but sensitive, moody and broody Emo boy. And he played a harp!
Can some fans just get together and make a UA-cam series of this like they have done with stories from the silmarillion!?!

actually, i do sincerely believe robert loved lyanna and that he would of been a different man, cause the robert we saw and knew was a deeply wounded robert bc of what happened to lyanna, if things would have gone as they planned i believe there would of been a different robert baratheon but i do believe if they had gotten married she would have been miserable and stringing him along cause if she were miserable he would be to.bc lyanna was not to found of marrying him

i agree with you on the spin-off, but it´s never gonna happen. martin said, that if he decided to write other book from this world after finishing asoiaf, it wouldn´t definitely be about robert´s rebellion, because he´ll cover this period in asoiaf completely, but more likely he´d write about aegon I. and his sisterwifes or aegon the unworthy and his lovers, so show will reveal all too. we can hope for flashbacks, but spin-off would be about that or the books´ spin-off - dunk and egg.
Wouldn't be a twist if John Snow was the son of Rhaegar & Lyanna and not Ned's bastard after all.... and this was what Lyanna was meaning when she repeated over and over to Ned ( when he came to try and save her in the book's ) saying " promise me promise me". Could it have been for Ned to promise to take care of the baby ( john Snow) ?
How much do you want to bet that Robert version of what happened, that Rhaegar took Lyanna against her will, is what actually happened? It seems like something George Martin would do.
