Jon Snow literally decided to swear his entire life away to an order that prevented him from doing anything else but his duty to the wall, eat, piss and shit and lets not forget about the new brothers he acquired for himself: rapists, murderers and thiefs. There might have been some Pyps, Grenns and Samwells, but most of the people at the wall weren't there because they wanted to be, they just didn't want to get castrated or die.
As a bastard, Jon had a freedom others would have killed for: Marrying whom he wants, going wherever he pleases, usw..
He had only heard glorious storys of the nightswatch, that's why he thought he could be as good as a Stark there, even as a Snow and wash away the stain upon his father's honor (As if anyone would have cared if he was a bastard at the wall, at Winterfell or in Kings Landing, the stain would remain regardless)
Whatever his reason became to stay, he initially wanted to join because he was a desperate honor obsessed fool of Eddard Starks making who knew nothing.
After he joins The Watch he fights and wins against smallfolk "recruits" and declares himself better than them, because he knew nothing.
Beyond the wall he didn't kill Ygritte because she was a woman and let her distract him and lead him into an ambush, because, guess what, he knew nothing.
Jon Snow knowing nothing is very important to the story (especially in the books), because only by knowing nothing, the effects of him later knowing some things and far later on knowing a lot of things are shown so beautifully.
The way he later on plans, manipulates and always thinks of the bigger picture is part of his journey to become a man worthy of being a King through hard trial and error instead of being raised to the position like FAegon and Robb (and let's face the truth: Robbs education as future Lord of Winterfell was lacking, not surprising though as there are things only the Lord can teach his heir and said Lord wasn't alive to teach him when it was needed the most and was only a second son himself (I'm absolutely sure there are some Stark secrets, similar to the Targaryen secret (Aegon only conquering Westeros because he knew a second Long Night would come someday), that were lost, because the Lord and heir died so tragically)).

The North, in a similar though still quite different way to Dorne, doesn't take a dump upon bastards. Infact, I have no doubt, that some Lords would've gladly fostered Jon or even raised him completely (Renly did so with Edric Storm, though he really had no choice in the matter I guess).
Just imagine a Roose Bolton who raises Jon and fills his head with an endless amount of hate for the Starks and a wish to take Winterfell for himself.
Or how about the Mormonts?
After Jorahs betrayal, I'm sure Maege would've gladly betrothed one of her kids to Jon, no doubt about it, as Lyanna Mormont said, "I don't care if he's a bastard. Ned Starks blood runs through his veins", that's all Maege would've cared about too. He'll her own kids are bastards but she doesn't give even the slightest fuck.
Not that Jon would've known about any of that, if it's the truth at all, because Ned would've told every lord who asked for Jon "no".
Jon has far more options than just the wall though, that boy was just so "dreamy" about the nightswatch, that he gave no second thought to anything else.
He was also 14 years old, so we can't really expect him to make good or wise decisions, I certainly never did at that age😂

The funniest part is Rose Leslie is actually a Lady, she was raised in a castle, and can actually trace her decent to King Charles II. They took the actress with the poshest upbringing and made her play a wildling.
I think her father used to be apart of the tory party or something aswell. I was surprised to find out she was Scottish with such an English accent.
She moved around a lot growing up, probably has a bit of an impact on the accent, and she's really posh. I wouldn't be surprised if her father was a Tory given she's campaigned for them before.

Before meeting her, he didn't really know what to think or what to do and was incapable to take any decision. He was full of good intentions but wasn't confident enough to take the lead. He was still a virgin.
And once he got back to the south of the wall, he was king material and took the leadership as he took her over.

Actually, she forgave him for the betrayal, hence why she shot him nonlethally with those arrows instead of doing what she said she would "cut off his cock and wear it around her neck". Then, there's her death scene; if she really wanted Jon dead, why did she hesitate and leave herself open to that crow archer? Even though Jon didn't answer Torrmund's question in the dungeon verbally, Torrmund knew that Jon loved Ygritte, and she loved him back. Also, 69s are overrated, so take another thumbs up.
