Cool video... one thing... I used to paddle extensively in the Alberta and BC Rockies... I went to Ottawa and the Ottawa River was, in September, the warmest river water I had ever paddled in.
Best "What Was I Thinking?" yet! Really fun to see. I had no idea what it took to get out there. I've only really seen the hero videos of riders already out on the wave.
Yes this is at Deschenes Rapids, pretty much right in the city. Unfortunately this wave doesn't look like this anymore after the 2019 Ottawa Flooding a part of the wall structure fell in and changed the shape of the wave. Fun whilst it lasted though.
Nice video. Good to have a bit of commentary to a go-pro video instead of standard generic dance track. How about though; and don't worry if you are already on the case, one on a wave (and/or stopper) that you are doing tricks on and what your plan is for each trick. For example, when it feels right to go for a loop or phonics monkey or on a wave blunt or flashback. Maybe at your level you tell the wave what you want to do but I know I have to wait for the feature to give me some guidance on which one of my (painfully limited) tricks to go for.
Your work to add commentary about the rapids, the rides, the techniques, the reality is so great! I hope you do a lot more of these, they inspire those of us that cannot do that level of kayaking (yet or ever 😜) 🍺🍺

Yea it gets super hot through the summer. SUPER cold in spring. quiet the ride usually.
you obviously then have never padled the Potomac in summer then....yeach!!!! ;)
I dig how you can keep it real. Good work on your videos.
TayWhite thanks a million! Next week’s episode of this series is a gem!
This is fantastic! No other videos like this - thank you!
Michael Chanslor thank you! Next week’s one of these is a gem. Probably my favourite.
Are you going to do any more of these? They are pretty fun, for all the reasons.
They may definitely make a comeback in the future. My work started again so I’m kind of busy. Maybe once things can down again.
Oh! Good you're working!
Whilst viewing this I couldn't help but think, that's how I felt during my Garb ride. Thanks for the POV!
Tom Hagerty it’s visually similar to big garb but definitely different.

McKay Andersen don’t get me wrong, I love watching, filming and being in those ‘hero flicks’. But yea I don’t think they always tell the whole story.
I would too. If I could. :D
Good one. Did you plan the 360s or did they just happen?
I was actually trying to line up a flash back but messed up.
So I take it this is down stream near Ottawa and from the looks of it that it is early spring with very high water?

72 Sun great idea. I’ll
Think if the best way to do it.
"...almost a mile from shore on either side..."? hardly! more like 8o meters from the Hull side
Do that paddle back to shore when you are gassed and flows are high and tell me it’s only 80m

Dave Lazar thanks so much! Next week’s one is my favourite, I’ll be sure to start planning for more episodes.
