The guy is class. The Basement was a small club in Sydney, used to be primarily jazz, it was something of an institution. There was a similar place called Soup Plus and at both there were seats and tables so you could go with friends and get a decent meal and drink a nice wine watching an intimate show. Artists who played the Basement, besides locals like Barnesy, Paul Kelly and Diesel, include Prince, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Canned Heat, Bee Gees, Judy Collins, Allen Toussaint, Rickie Lee Jones, Michelle Shocked, Quincy Jones, Nigel Kennedy, Todd Rundgren, Rodriguez, John Mayall, Peter Green, Dr John, Lloyd Cole, Adrian Belew, Jeff Lang, Lee Ritenour, John Hammond, Charlie Musselwhite, Loudon, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Bela Fleck, Taj Mahal, Bo Diddley, Eric Burdon, Ron Sexsmith, Steve Earle, Luka Bloom, Bruce Cockburn, Janis Ian, Angelique Kidjo, even Dave and Phil Alvin. So Mossy was in good and numerous company.
Hey Greg, The Basement was a small downstairs venue close to Sydney Harbour…. It’s no longer there, Steve Prestwich had a dvd release Live at the Basement you might be able to find, I saw one of my favourite bands play there Moving Pictures…..and yes pretty much the Chisel guys and most others play a mixture of pubs, theatres, concert venues, outdoor shows and intimate shows like this…… glad your enjoying Ian Moss plenty to discover Enjoy.
I know Mossy does the club circuit. I've seen his name listed to play at a small club down the road plenty of times over the years. As for his stage fright, Mossy's a shy guy. I think he'd much preferred to play with Chisel where the main focus is on Jimmy.
Playing small intimate gigs isn't considered a step down here It's just another way of connecting with an audience Up close and personal as opposed to 5000 screaming fans 😉😉😂😂🎸🎸🎶🎶
