@@TheCarKrazeOfficial I don't think it looks so much better, at all! Especially when compared to the convertible...in red. But it doesn't enhance the looks a bit. Either way, the Corvette C8 Z06 is still pretty good-looking supercar, in my opinion.
Good video but the visualizer is wrong in two key factors based on direct conversations I had with both Harlan and Alex MacDonald at the Z06’s reveal and that is that a) can get carbon fiber wheels on a standard Z06 version option, and b) you can get the complete Z07 aero package on the standard version Z. Lastly, you can get carbon ceramic brakes on the standard version also as another option. So the difference (that can not be changed/modified is that the standard version only comes with the PS4 tires whereas the Z07 only comes with the Cup2 R’s; the Z07 has the stiffer springs you mentioned; and, the Z07’s mag shocks are specifically calibrated for track use. So nice GM is giving us almost 100% choice this time around. Thanks HPO!!! UPDATE: THE VISUALIZER IS NOT LONGER FORCING THE Z07 TRACK PACKAGE IF YOU SELECT THE HIGH WING.
For me, the Z06 looks so much more integrated and less gaudy than the standard C8 from every angle. That might be enough to sway me for the Z06, but I have no use for the Z07 package. This will be around 6 years down the road when I am retired. And it will have to be pre-owned.
I concur with your facts on things like the tweak on suspension for the z07 to be stiffer as it's reported several places as well as CF rims being only available to z07 package but the visualizer doesn't line up with your statement of no front canards or big batwing on the back unless you have z07. Visualizer allows you to add rear batwing and front canards with rocker panels as what I would perceive as an aero package option for the z06 and you don't have to click on z07 package in the exterior tab to get these. What you DO NOT get in this implied aero package are the undercarriage strakes. Again I have only validated all of this from the visualizer so still subject to change upon release of configurator and production model release.
I'm definitely getting the Z07 with all options if I can get my hands on an allocation. At this point it's not looking good. Maybe I'll just try getting an allocation now for the ZR1 so I'll be guaranteed to get one.
Good day Justin; thank you for all the informative content that you provide us with; truly looking forward to seeing the Z06 on the streets of South Florida; take care !
I would buy the Z07 package because the wing suits the design more (imo). It also of course looks more extreme than the z06 which looks “tame” compared to the z07
Hi Justin! It’s pretty cool that Chevy is beefing up the trans for the Z06, and the parts you mention are important; however I wonder if anything is planned for the axles? Emilia Hartfords car broke the axles so they had to replace them with larger, stiffer units.
The Z06 has 5ft-lbs less torque, so the DCT is less stressed. The lower displacement is going to be a lot easier on the DCT overall. The DCT has problems with the 6.2L because it was probably designed for the reduced torque of the 5.5L from the beginning. This "Z06" was likely the planned C8 Stingray, but the 5.5L didn't make the timeline so they had to wedge the 6.2L in there. I thought that was why the 2020 Stingray was so heavy, but the 5.5L seems no lighter which is probably an engineering parameters miss. Maybe the extra weight is related to the 3 year production delay.
In some of the Z06 release interviews with engineers, they discussed being able to add the carbon fiber wing/wheels etc. to the base Z06. But adding them will never get you the added aero under the car or the enhanced brakes or additional overall performance! I would like to see your video if available on your ordering process and what dealership did you go with!? Great video 👍
@@HorsePowerObsessed that's right...you talk about them all the time! I jumped on Ciocca and Whitmoyer's list very early! 🤞 I can be under the #150 number somewhere...ha ha ha!
Shane, I heard that as well. The aero under the car was specific to the ZO7. The high wing is an option on the ZO6 and standard on ZO7. Carbon fiber wheels on the visualizer are not as of today offered on non ZO7 cars. I hope that changes soon. Having GM placing carbon fiber wheels on your ZO6 would be cheaper than purchasing an aftermarket wheel.
If you just want to track the Corvette like Speed Phenom, get the Z07 package. If you want to hit the drag strip or roll race in Mexico 😉 like Dragtime, get the Z06 with no aerodynamics.
As always, you do a good job keeping everyone informed. Plus I like how you give credit to where you find the info! I am definitely more comfortable with my choice of HTC w/ Z07 opt. Watching the Z07 with the Cup 2 Rs in the rain & doing quite well was a real positive. I had Nitto R-compound track tires on my C5R-427 and in the rain it was dicey. Can't wait until info about dealer allocation starts to materialized. In less than a year and these babies will start rolling on the highways and tracks around the US.
Rear end final drive is 5.56:1 on the C8 Z06. Lead development engineer Aaron mentions this in the Jay Leno video at about 10:43 minutes in. He also hinted that the 8% stiffer comes on the Z07 package in a video with Speed Phenom, talking about the Z06 vs Z07 vs C8R. That was about 2:45 minutes in.
Depends diapers for the majority of owners will significantly reduce transmitted stiffness. Especially with a brown biscuit or two as a viscous damper.
I will be getting the 2023 Z06 when available at my dealer. I've been on the list since Sept 2019 at the introduction of the C8 with a low number at a high volume dealer at msrp. I'm still enjoying my C7 Z06 now . I might sell the C7 in the spring when I am assured an order. The carbon fiber wheels would be great for the track but questionable on public roads I believe. Crack one of those on bad public roads and it will cost you. I would put the carbon fiber wheels on track day and run another set of custom wheels on public roads. Just a thought.
@@ronretired282 Yup. That's what I'm afraid of. My dealer said sell it in the spring. C7 Z06 should hold their value with the new C8 Z06's being hard to come by but it's not so much about money as enjoying the ride though.
I will likely never be on a track but would absolutely want the looks of the Z07. For me, its what makes the car so visually appealing. Hopefully aftermarket comes through
Ok...I'm gonna be honest. The Z06 is epic, the Z07 is epic-er...but you know what I wanted? I wanted a widebody C8RS for the street, built by Pratt & Miller themselves...the same way they've built those seven examples of the C6RS, back in 2006...that is still one of my all-time favorite Corvette's, and I really wish they've done the same with the C7, building at least a handful of C7RS's. And now, of course, the C8 as well. Built using the same mold as the actual racecars, all carbon fiber... I guess I wouldn't even mind having the same engine as the stock Z06/07, but there probably would have performance benefits from the lower weight of the full carbon fiber body.
Carbon ceramic rotors are addicting. Once you have them there is no way you can go back to steel. Z07 for all the looks and performance. Sports competition seats are a must too.
you missed an important point which is that half the rear camera display will be blocked by the wing / the wing wont make it faster in straight lines (if we wanna street race/drag) and finally accessing the trunk and opening and closing it a bit more unpractical.
Justin, just letting you know. I was able to build the base Z06 with the Ceramic brakes without the Z07 on the visualizer. However, depending on how much of a difference in price of just the brakes over the Z07 we'll see. If it's to significant, than I'll just go with the Big brakes. My car will never see the track, but I love the Z07 Package look. I'll just purchase a set of 4Ss for my base Z06 because I do drive all year around here in Virginia Beach!! General Lee Out!
Base is good, Z07 is excellent. I may have forgo the Z07 package for the HTC. If $ was no option 3LZ HTC Z07 package with CF wheels & full CF Interior & blackout.
Let's clarify something: transmissions are rated for input torque. Nowhere on a transmission's spec sheet will it include how much HP it can handle. Only input torque. And the peak torque of the LT6 is actually lower than the LT2. What was done with the transmission was to improve its handling of higher crankshaft speeds, not HP. That includes the clutches and the lubrication changes.
I personally traded my C7 Z06-Z07 because of the squeaky brakes. I ordered a C8 Stingray w/o Z51 because the Brembo brakes. They still are squeaky on the C8 Z51’s
You guys have completely missed the Lingenfelter Magnusson SUPERCHARGER package just for the Stingray. They have a piggy back ecu, and the package is over 700WHP on 9lbs of boost. If this package works with the transmission then you will have Stingray with more power than the old Z06, and it might be the PERFECT setup for track and street. The package is GUARANTEED to have more TORQUE than the Z06 engine as well. A Z06 or a Lingenfelter package? What if the supercharged LT2 engine is better? This is getting very interesting.
Thank you! It's an AWD dyno, very typical for in floor installed dynos. I've had many RWD cars tuned on an AWD dyno so it doesn't mean anything specific.
If you can afford the mark ups as well as the gas prices I just want to say.....your amazing and I'll be looking forward to walking around your vechicles at car shows.
The Aerodynamics Package is an upgrade option for the base Z06 without needing to order the Z07. Chevy's visualizer lets you spec it out without carbon ceramic brakes mandatory on Z07 so it lets you spec the aero without Z07. Multiple UA-camrs who talked to GM staff at the reveal event say the same. And like you said CF wheels in the visualizer show Z07 package is mandatory but aero does not. And when I save the PDF summary of my visualizer build, it describes the aero like this: GROUND EFFECTS - NEW Carbon Flash High-Wing Spoiler † GROUND EFFECTS - Carbon Flash Metallic-Painted Carbon Fiber Ground Effects † Requires Carbon Flash Ground Effects and J57 or Z07 Keyphrase: "J57 or Z07." That says "or" not "and" so Z07 is not required.
This East is suppose to run mid 10’s with a 2,6 second 0-60. This 2032 C8 ZO6 will eat up the get 350 and the gt500, whether it be at the drag strip or in the track.
The transmission on the base stingray can handle close to 700 lb ft of torque, nothing they did was to handle more power, it was to handle more abuse while keeping things oiled and cool. They expect the Z06 to be driven harder and get plenty of track time. With it having the ability to accelerate faster it's going to cover ground faster than the base, which means shifting more often adding heat and wearing parts faster. So yeah, it's not about handling more power, it's about handling more abuse.
So, to ZO7 or not to ZO7? THAT is the question.😉 I have to keep my life simple. First off, we all have different priorities, likes and dislikes. I like everything Corvette, EXCEPT the brake dust! The ZO7 packaged Vette in the days of old was the only way you'd get the Carbon Ceramic Brakes ='s No break dust. But NOW. Well Holy Leap'n Lizards! Did I hear you correctly? You can get the Carbon Ceramic brakes as a stand alone option? In that case I'm in for the base ZO6 w/the Carbon Ceramic brake option. Sure the added aero and corresponding look and handling that come with the ZO7 package is unbelievable, but I'd do after-market purchases as time and money permitted. Especially since I'd certainly have a lot more time because I wouldn't have to spend so much time cleaning the brake dust off the wheels.🤭 OMG, GM is going to offer the LT6 as a crate engine purchase!? Are they also going to offer a conversion kit to install it in my C6? No, not as a replacement for my LS3, but in ADDITION to my LS3 to install it in the rear storage area! I don't want no Twin-Turbo Vette, I want a Twin-Engined Vette! There's a heck of a lot space back there and I already have the large rear glass window for everyone's viewing pleasure. 🤣 Okay, okay. I'll go take my meds now. See ya round. Oh yeah, don't forget to Save the Wave👋
If the C8 Z07 package is 8% stiffer than the C8 Z06, which is 35% stiffer than the base C8, then the Z07 package should be more than 43% stiffer than the base... it'll be approximately 46% stiffer. With all that said, will we even be able to feel the difference between the Z06 and Z07 riding on the street? I currently have a 2014 camaro with the 1LE track package. I wonder how the stiffness of the Z06/Z07 compares to that.
@@HorsePowerObsessed that's what I figured... Still waiting on pricing to know which route I'll go, but considering either Z06 HTC, or Z07 coupe. I'm keeping a close eye on your channel for additional updates to help me finalize my decision. Thanks for the great content!
Thanks for the helpful video. Any idea how much % stiffer is C8 Z06 vs C7 Z06? I am drive in the C7 Z06 all day but wondering about C8 Z06. Already sold it, waiting for C8 Z51 then upgrade for C8 Z06
The only tracking I'd do is some NASA HPDE training to learn how to really drive a mid engined car. So it'll be the 1LZ for me. My C6Z is a 1LZ non Z07. Which I'm very happy with. I might use the Z07 $$$ toward CF rims, instead, if offered. Imo, that alone would be a nice handling and performance enhancement.
I’d love to know what the cons of the ZO7 package would be for a road going car only. How will those Cup Rs handle rain and what kind of mileage might they get, how will the carbon wheels and brakes hold up to everyday use, etc.
It's all about getting to the right dealership. Keep looking, my friend! You can call my dealership Klick Lewis in Palmyra, PA and ask for Greg Lewis. Tell him HorsePower Obsessed sent ya!

Zo6 for me adding wing and splitter. power will be the same. and really i will change the rotors to slotted rotors. I dont like sport cup tires, I wont track my car so I am good. But i will whip up on some mustangs and them dodge boys. Like I do now in my Z06. My car right now is outstanding and it rides great especially after I just changed the rear shocks because I had a shock busted. yep Zo6 for me .
Hey Justin Klick Lewis doing markups? Any idea how long their waiting list in about how many allocations they typically get as a dealer for Corvettes? I was planning to get a 2024 or 2025 but from what I'm reading now dealers could be sold out for several years. It seems like it means putting a deposit now means that would be the soonest I would get a car anyway and possibly not even that quickly
For allocations Klick Lewis does not do any markups over MSRP. For a C8 Corvette you could get on their list and probably have it within 8 to 12 months. The z06 is going to be a little bit different but wouldn’t hurt to contact them and talk to Greg Lewis anyway. Tell them HorsePower Obsessed sent you.
Which C8 will hold best value? My allocation should be here next week, and I plan on driving it 3-6 months due to personal reason. Is there any configuration recommended, to reduce exposure, for resale since I’ll be selling within 6 months after driving it? I can only afford the 1LT so that’s a must. Color choices (exterior and interior), options, etc?
It's not HP it's torque that breaks stuff and cause slipping in a transmission. Even 100% stock the C8 has way more trans failures than it should, some of these change will likely be applied to the base model as well.
Can you help me get an allocation from your dealer , I had a 2016 C7 but I was in a life threatening accident when someone hit me head on , I have been trying, thanks
How the hell are they going to offer it as a create engine. And they have everyone locked out of tuning the corvette completely How the hell are you going to run the engine. That’s some crazy bullshit.
zo7 package is just a scam those carbon fiber wheels are a huge liability unfixable if they crack and prone to be stolen / the stiffness increase is barely mentionable given the fact the base zo6 took a huge leap from the z51 now we are bargaining with practicality and comfort / the rear wing makes it slower and makes the rear camera blocked and finally those race compound tires will wear out quick and would be a pain to drive if you live in florida and it rains so In my opinion the zo7 doesnt include a major selling point whatsoever besides unlocking the carbon fiber wheels option which as I mentioned above is a huge liability better off selling the oem wheels and getting the lightest forged wheels custom made just the way you want them to look with warranty a titanium axle back exhaust or seats with zo7 written on them and carpets with a carbon hood or even bigger/more cooling fans would defiantly make me tick the zo7 but given the way it is just not worth it... or if they do what the demon does and give u a zo7 box with the carbon fiber wheels and modifications while you have the regular oem wheels installed on the car is selling point but yeh

With it having the ability to accelerate faster it's going to cover ground faster than the base, which means shifting more often adding heat and wearing parts faster. So yeah, it's not about handling more power, it's about handling more abuse.
I'd seen the c8 required an additional 2 quarts of trans fluid to go to the track. Chevy seems to not want to do that for the z06
Nope. This one is more track focused than the base C8 was so it already comes with the extra 2 quarts.
Clarified a lot of things, just wish GM would speed up the building process so I can get mine.
Agreed!
Personally I would get the Z06 without the Z07 package I just prefer the subtle looks and I would get it in yellow if I had the money to buy one😅
Subtle look, loud color..... I like it I like it
I’m going 2LZ Z07 w/carbon wheels. Assuming life doesn’t screw me over between now and then of course
Especially since I'd certainly have a lot more time because I wouldn't have to spend so much time cleaning the brake dust off the wheels.🤭
OMG, GM is going to offer the LT6 as a crate engine purchase!? Are they also going to offer a conversion kit to install it in my C6? No, not as a replacement for my LS3, but in ADDITION to my LS3 to install it in the rear storage area! I don't want no Twin-Turbo Vette, I want a Twin-Engined Vette! There's a heck of a lot space back there and I already have the large rear glass window for everyone's viewing pleasure. 🤣
Okay, okay. I'll go take my meds now. See ya round. Oh yeah, don't forget to Save the Wave👋
🤣🤣 The carbon ceramics are certainly worth it even without the Z07 package. I absolutely love them on my ZR1.
We're obviously both on the same track, no pun intended 😉, with how we feel about the CC brakes.👍
Lol 100%!!
I doubt you'll realistically feel 8% when driving on the street but you'll definitely feel the 35% over the base C8.
Can you clarify this? We will buy this engine to the nearest Ford dealer? @3:38 on video. Did I hear it wrong?🤔😁😁
Question about the LT6 itself, from a lot of the pictures of the engine, it looks like the starter might be in the valley, is this correct??
Definitely I'm just having a hard time picking a spec.
LT6 would be rad in a kit car like Superlite SLC or GTR.
Agreed!
“Have noticed”. Lmao 😂 😂😂😂😂
Thanks for sharing 👍
No problem 👍
I’d love to know what the cons of the ZO7 package would be for a road going car only. How will those Cup Rs handle rain and what kind of mileage might they get, how will the carbon wheels and brakes hold up to everyday use, etc.
Good question. They're going to charge $20,000+ for CF wheels that really have no track record.
Link to Eddie video? Your links look the same?
It's actually in the transmission video link. That article is all about his video.
Beautiful great car, awesome!
It sure is!
I can't get myself in on an allocation for the Z06/Z07 and I already have $70k ready to use for down payment so I'm super disappointed.
It's all about getting to the right dealership. Keep looking, my friend! You can call my dealership Klick Lewis in Palmyra, PA and ask for Greg Lewis. Tell him HorsePower Obsessed sent ya!
@@HorsePowerObsessed I called and spoke to Greg on the day of the Z06 video drop. Really nice and honest guy. He already has the orders filled but I'm on the list in case he gets more than expected or maybe a 2024 if I can't get my hands on a 2023. and yes, he knows you sent me. I appreciate it man.
Z07 all the way. Want it all for me. The base c8 just don’t cut it. It drives like a luxury car. More power more edginess
@@HorsePowerObsessed I'll definitely reach out. I heard coicca list is 9k deep.
I believe it.
@@HorsePowerObsessed Just left Greg a message, I'll report back.
@@HorsePowerObsessed no call back from my message Saturday. I'll try again tomorrow
Why are the front wheels rolling on the Dyno ?
Which C8 will hold best value?
My allocation should be here next week, and I plan on driving it 3-6 months due to personal reason. Is there any configuration recommended, to reduce exposure, for resale since I’ll be selling within 6 months after driving it? I can only afford the 1LT so that’s a must. Color choices (exterior and interior), options, etc?
2 lt my friend figure it out somehow keep saving
It's not HP it's torque that breaks stuff and cause slipping in a transmission. Even 100% stock the C8 has way more trans failures than it should, some of these change will likely be applied to the base model as well.
Can you get the Z07 as a convertible? ?…
Yea sir!
III always said if the LT6 was offered as a crate motor I'd drop it into my C4, soon it'll be time for me to put my money where my mouth is.
Can you help me get an allocation from your dealer , I had a 2016 C7 but I was in a life threatening accident when someone hit me head on , I have been trying, thanks
Just give them a call and talk to Greg Lewis. Tell him HorsePower Obsessed sent ya!
@@HorsePowerObsessed what’s the dealership or Greg Lewis number , and thanks Bud
They just have beefed up the axles... Let's hope,!
🤞🤞
Any news on the axle... Beefier?
Nothing confirmed but I would think they'd have to be... 🤞🤞
Ok. So the ZR-1 is going to be absolutely ridiculous then, right?
100%
I worry that some of us will lose the strakes under the car to some speed bumps eventually
Just buy a z06 and buy wing and front splitter aftermarket! No way the zo7 has 30k extras!! Just my opinion!!
No Z07 package for me. I will get the 3LZ with high wing. I drag and roll race no need for the 7 package.
Nice car sport
Hahahahaha (3:41) crate engine coming soon to a Ford near you…….
Lol 😂
Justin you sure you don’t deep down want a mustang ?
Base z06 isn't that kind of a oxymoron
Not exactly, the base Z06 is what the Z07 builds upon.
How the hell are they going to offer it as a create engine. And they have everyone locked out of tuning the corvette completely
How the hell are you going to run the engine. That’s some crazy bullshit.
zo7 package is just a scam those carbon fiber wheels are a huge liability unfixable if they crack and prone to be stolen / the stiffness increase is barely mentionable given the fact the base zo6 took a huge leap from the z51 now we are bargaining with practicality and comfort / the rear wing makes it slower and makes the rear camera blocked and finally those race compound tires will wear out quick and would be a pain to drive if you live in florida and it rains so In my opinion the zo7 doesnt include a major selling point whatsoever besides unlocking the carbon fiber wheels option which as I mentioned above is a huge liability better off selling the oem wheels and getting the lightest forged wheels custom made just the way you want them to look with warranty
a titanium axle back exhaust or seats with zo7 written on them and carpets with a carbon hood or even bigger/more cooling fans would defiantly make me tick the zo7 but given the way it is just not worth it... or if they do what the demon does and give u a zo7 box with the carbon fiber wheels and modifications while you have the regular oem wheels installed on the car is selling point but yeh
Dear followers!! Don't let the beautiful pictures confuse you . Anyone who buys a new car from GENERAL Motors the chance you threw your money into the trash is very large. GM is a very dangerous company, be careful and keep your money safe.!!!👎👎👎👎👎😬👎😬👎👎Share so more people don't get screwed.GM is a big bluf
torque is what tears up transmissions... not "power." power is a function of torque and rpm. the base model has more torque than the z06.
idiots that think power is all that matters have no business talking cars.
