My grandpa’s 97’ Dakota had the same interior parts, Chrysler was just recycling parts all across the line up. In the desert 90s dodges don’t rust but the paint complete burns and flakes off. Great review as usual!
I learned to drive at Sears Driving school in 1996 in a red 1995 Neon. I bought a silver 2002 about 2 months ago. These are shockingly good as cheapo cars go.
And the Japanese called it the Japanese car killer when it came out cause it could rev to 6700 rpms n could get great 30s miles per gallon which is better than most new cars and the gears were so fun to go through 90 3rd gear so fun

It’s an alright car. My first car was 2002 Chrysler Neon. Had a 5 speed manual, and I learned how to drive manual with that one. I’ve since sold it to a friend of mine when the gas prices blew up, and it’s served him well. Personally I only drive when I absolutely need to. My friend drives constantly, almost aimlessly just to pass the time. For now until I get a new vehicle, I’m sharing my parent’s car, and I have an E-Bike.
I just bought the exact same neon with only 26,000 miles. It was in an accident (Rumor is it hit a deer) in 1999 and issued a salvage title. It then sat in a garage for the past 24 years. Previous owner repaired most of the body (Junkyard parts so it's not very pretty) and I'm finishing off the repairs. Still needed a windshield, drivers airbag, tires and some other little things. I'll be taking it for WI state inspection, in about 3 weeks, to be issued a rebuilt title. Hopefully it passes inspection. I'm all in, including the purchase price of $550, for about $1500 (Plus registration, plates etc) Its amazingly clean in that it has absolutely no rust anywhere.

I used to have a 98 Plymouth Breeze, but someone ran into it and of course the insurance company totaled it. Since then, I've been searching for a 1st generation Plymouth Neon or another Plymouth Breeze.
I have a 1995 4 door highline 5-speed with A/C. Second owner purchased in 98 for $2500.00 bucks. I still daily drive the car to this day. Only on second motor, odometer has 415,000 miles. If you are ever in So cal and want to review my car...

These cars are SUPER slept on. At the time they came out they were faster and revved higher than a Civic. Not to mention it was Dodges second fastest car at the time right behind the good old Viper and won multiple SCCA races. Ive had my '95 Highline SOHC since I got it off the lot and with proper maintenance ive only had to change out a couple old hoses. Now its the only 1st gen Neon on the road here in northern Cali
Zach, you like the Neon because the round headlights and grille suggest a smiling happy face saying “HI”! to you!! This is not a bad thing. Also note that the Plymouth version of the car was ALSO called the Neon!! So you had a Dodge AND a Plymouth Neon!!! Now that is alot of smiles per mile! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
They called it a Neon because you hit your knee on this and your knee on that, haha. I had one but it had a tachometer, a faulty fuel gauge and a speedometer that cut out when you hit bumps. It was fun to drive and the fuel economy was a nice bonus. This was early 2000’s so it wasn’t that old at the time but it was always in and out of the shop for some reason or another which is why I got rid of it.
I had a 95 with the 5 speed. Hd it for 218,000 miles. Awesome for a really cheap car. It was like $4000 less than a Civic. Previous car had 88 HP and was slightly heavier and the neon had 132. What an upgrade. When I bought mine it was the lowest priced 4 door car in the U.S.. Even less than the Kia's and Hyndia's.
I bought a base neon manual with roll up windows and the DOHC right off of the showroom floor for around 10k. It was my first new car. I traded my aged 1992 celica that I was sad to see go. I put 150k miles on the car commuting and getting into all kinds of young people ‘adventures’. It was a shitbox- no bones about it. One thing I particularly liked about it though besides the surprising performance was the air vents just pop out- so if you needed a place to stash something in the spur of the moment, you could always utilize that area 😂.
Its got that steering wheel cover since the original wheel material probably wore away a long time ago so if you want to grip bare spongy foam, go nuts. Or get a neat wheel cover like whoever the person had on the car before they sold it to this guy.
Wrong neons price went 9995 all the way up to 16500 in Chicago. A 4 door neon sport with the 2.0 dual overhead cam engine 150 hp , automatic , power door locks,power mirrors, windows sunroof, alloy rims was 14,600

Manual focus hatch And fiesta hatch are great American Economy cars with 5 speed manual gearbox. The gearbox in the focus in particular is known for being very good im not to sure about the fiesta gearbox tho.
Great economy car. Are you joking? It was cheap. That moved units but it was a curse. 1997 Neon. Build quality utter shit. Bad heads bad motor mounts steering mechanism could fall apart. Smartest thing my friend did was opt for the manual transmission. He got the car brand spanking new. Sold it at 60k miles. Got an S 10 pick up
@@computernostalgia6293 yeah I went through 3 head gaskets by the time I hit 68,000 in my sport dohc. That car fouled spark plugs every 10,000 miles just about, egr carbon build up, always over heating, on the highway if you drove it during a while it’s raining the trans made a grating sound that traveled under the car. I currently own a 2016 Cherokee 3.2 v6 since new and have 82,000 miles not one issue.
Fun is an accurate description. One of my favorite fun neon moments is seeing people upset when they lose to neons in races.

Got a 98 ACR for $600. The only thing that sucks is the major lack of aftermarket like how the Civic's of the same era do.. STILL

Sohc was more reliable but the dohc more horsepower. Had both. The dohc was nothing but problems
