I bought one of these brand new in 2004. It was definitely the best performance car for $20k. The wrx and evo were way more expensive, and this was faster (except for launch). Everyone hated on these so much, but the thing is back then, everyone had turbo civics and integras, so dodge gave us what we wanted from the factory, very underrated car.
I got an orange one in 05 it was awesome . I had it up until 3 years ago even though I had bought so many other cars in between that time till just recently I could never let go of it because it brought me so many good times . No joke it only had 30k miles in all that time when I gave it to my best friend .

I had a lightly-modified 2004. That car hurt a lot of feelings. They weigh 2900-3000 lbs, not 3100. They were officially said to have 230hp (crank), but I knew that was BS the first time I drove one. Dyno testing back when they came out proved that the SRT-4 made 220-230hp at the wheels, stock. That means they really put out about 260-265 at the crank. The 1/4 mile times and trap speeds back that up.
@@Crazywaffle5150 265 in a 2900 lb car pulls a pretty good 1/4 mile. My best time was 13.68 @ 104 mph. All the car had was an AEM intake and Borla exhaust. They ran 13.8 to 14.1 stock, depending on conditions. That was as quick or quicker than a Mustang GT or 350z of the same year. For 2004-05, that was an insanely quick car for 20 grand. Unheard of.
@@hartsickdisciple I built my engine for 8k. Car value without my engine is 6k. My cars horse power is over 400. Total $14,000. Way less than 20k and I'm going faster.
I have watched you and just love your enthusiasm about the cars. I think you're going in the right direction by expanding to this market of cars. I do suggest going to a lapel mike from your phone if possible to record an audio file it might work better than the airpods which I believe is around $60 from RODE. As a small youtuber myself I do understand we work with a limited budget and you can always upgrade in the future. Keep it up Joe!

That car puts my right back on my PlayStation 2, playing need for speed underground. SRT 4 and Nissan Sentra spec v. I owned two eras of the spec v, so fun as a young driver!

It is still a neon chassis... That being said Neon's had good chassis, look at all the scca autocross Neon's from back in the day. Wonder what the hangup on the name is, like Civic R's and Si's, they are still a Civic...

No one took the car seriously until they were way back in the rear view - the very definition of SLEEPER - love your enthusiasm for this car, sweet ride, love that kid's mods. Just saw this video, and I loved my ‘03 SRT-4. Went to the first meet up in Louisiana with the Mopar guys, and they brought down a SRT-10 Ram with them! Such a cool trip, and will hopefully own another one!

I will never understand why people talk trash about a brand or model car that others enjoy? I am into MOPARS, but I don't trash talk other brands because I can find a year and model of almost any brand that I like. I have a 2003 SRT4, a 98 Neon R/T, a Turbo 6spd. Dart(2013), a 2011 SRT8 Challenger, a 1969.5 SIX PACK Bee (Q5), 1 Superbird V code Alpine White and a 99 Dodge 3500 Cummins 5 speed. The 2003 SRT4 is a blast to drive as well as the SRT8.
The srt4 was the first car i purchased back in 04... I did not know that i was spoiling myself. I have also purchased a nissan 350z and a nissan gtr. Call me crazy but that srt4 is the craziest bat shit attitude fun car ive owned, and i cant put it down. Ive got a nissan gtr and 350z just sitting because i just love my srt4. Like said i spoiled myself when i bought it. Now other cars are just sub par.

It took me a year and a half and hundreds of cars to find a 2 owner unmolested SRT-4. Mine is also stage 3 E85 over 400 wheel HP. Such a fun an unique car, you gotta weed out the bad to find a good one and you will pay more for a decent car. Most SRT-4 under $7000 are probly not worth your time.
My first SRT I bought was totaled and fully rebuilt it, this one I bought the best example I could find. In the long run you are saving time, money, and headaches by buying a good car. It's hard to undo years of someone else's bad decisions.
Back when these cars came out, I couldn’t afford it. I was still in high school. Funny enough I drove a 95 Neon and lined up with an SRT. It left me standing. 😂 Fast forward until today, and I own an SRT that I’ve been putting back to its old glory.
I am 7 years old with my srt4 2005 and I do not get tired of driving it. I think they should get it out for sale again of course more modern and aggressive
From the looks not too close tho looked very clean no wing, aftermarket rims, looked very nice. Just happened to see it again looks like he works close by, might have to do a closer investigation.
Great Review! I almost bought an SRT-4 back in 2004, but I ended up buying a Ford Focus-SVT. I had many sponsors for the car like Ford Racing, SCT, and NOPI. I was around 220-230hp and I had a ball with her. Mine was also a daily driver. Thanks Taylor!
Great points, you nailed this review. I have a modded '03 converted to a '04-05. I agree, this is a much more tuned car to ever call it a Neon. Those that don't respect that, can answer to the SRT-4's tailights. :)
And remember that car was built to destroy everything in his path and if I was only $24,000 brand new and the way they cut cost was to take the car seats out of the viper and adapt to the SRT-4 . plus the gauges were made by autometer to keep their cost down that's why the SRT-4 and srt6 did not come standard with brembo brakes which every SRT did after the SRT-4 models remember they were trying to keep costs down that's why the srt6 AKA crossfire share the same motor as a CLK Mercedes which was a supercharged 3.3 l
I had an orange one I loved it so much I kept it in my garage after buying several other cars and gave it to my friend with only 30 k miles in 2017 it gave me a lot of great memories for 25k it was a bargain and a lot of smiles .
In a straight line, they really are faster...not so much on an autocross course where you have to turn. The good thing is you can work the camber and suspension to make it handle as well as an ST, but for stock class autocrossing, that is not allowed unless it came with the adjustable suspension pieces. I have both in my garage, a 2005 SRT and a 2017 Focus ST.
I owned a orange 2005 srt4 which was the last year produced. I enjoyed everyday i got behind the wheel. I bought it with 21K miles and sold it with only 56K miles. Mine had the mopar stage 3 with toys and a diablo tune and upped the boost alittle , CAI and exhaust, downpipe and coilovers and nice 17 inch asa ar1 back wheels. It sounded so good with the muffler delete and loud but it always got me looks and I beat a lot of hondas. This reivew made me miss my SRT4
Pretty cool car , even stock and you don’t see a lot of them. As far as suggestions for cars to review. How about a 2012 or 2013 Boss 302. I’ve been watching them and they ‘re coming down in price I have seen them as low as $25,000 ,also most of them have low miles. I think it’s a good car to consider for someone who wants a fun car that will be a future collectible.

I would've appreciated more seeing your impression of driving the car and seeing the car moving in forward view. I can understand people feeling paranoid of letting others driving their machines, but you know how to handle big power and far more than what this car puts out and your very responsible and respectful with other people's property. It is hilarious when d-bags who don't own a car and have no videos uploaded on their channels come in and bag on the SRT-4... hey kids, your Supra and Skyline dreams don't add up to anything. Shxt in one hand and put those dreams in the other, rub your hands together, see what you got? The SRT-4 is a great car, faster than a 350Z, S2000, WRX, and same year Ford Mustang GT.
One of my mechanics worked at sears at the time I purchased mine. He just bought one. He let me drive his and I was instantly hooked because of the power and pickup of a 4 cylinder you would never think that power would be coming from that motor. Even better the girls loved the car too I think I spent more time in the back seat then the front 🤣🤣

I just bought one 3 weeks ago, I'm 56 yrs old the srt4 came with lots of mods that I don't understand. one thing I do understand is fast and it's very fast. faster than my 1986 charger shelby that I still own n drive.
What im tryin to understand is how is he only make 460 to crank and 390 to the wheels with those mods. My brother had an 03 srt-4 he got it not long after they started selling them and he only had a almost full bolt on with stock fuel system and after we put on his manual boost controller he turned it up to make the factory turbocharger which is only a small t3/t4 if im not mistaken but anyway we maxed the turbo out until we heard turbo surge and turned it back down maybe 2 or 3 psi so we were running roughly 25 give or take a psi because boost creep. Anyway we put it on a dyno and tuned it with bolt-ons and a maced out stock turbo and made 386whp with a stock (Neon) Srt-4 thats what the title said anyway Lol. so it's a neon on steroids in my eyes. And no im not hating I love the srt-4 myself just dont know how this one is not making more power with those kind of mods?
That's a possibility. What type of gas is this one tuned on? Because we were tuned and dyno on 93 pump gas also. we were worried about trying any race fuels we were thinking about putting vp100 and then dyno it to see what it would make but since we were still running a completely stock fuel system and just some minor bolt-ons at the time we decided it probably wouldn't be a good idea since it was his only car and didnt want to risk it. I can say the stock clutch didnt last long after that dyno and tune not sure what they are rated at for max hp that they can handle but I know it hated the high 300's Lol.
In reality, the SRT 4 actually dynoed back in the day, full stock, at 228 at the wheels...just two hp shy of advertised crank hp. That would equate to about 270 to 280 crank hp. I have to think they gave it the lower rating strictly for insurance purposes...
Haha , this guy is enthusiastic!! I've had 2 SRT4's and while you might need thick skin to drive them ( especially if you're a male ) :D , they are fun cars.. And if built right , they are very reliable , little rockets. They get hate, Hell it's a neon... It will get hate when its a collector and there is 50 of them left on the planet. But I plan on keeping mine just for that reason. I mean look at how many car chasers want a gremlin! Mine made 450/440 whp/wtq and it is absolutely a blast , until the input shaft snapped ..

I drove one a friend had a month ago, stock mill, lil mods, 17 lbs boost & a short throw shifter. was the 1st manual id driven in yrs and it was like i just did so the day before, was perfect, car hauled ass! was a neon sxt with a srt-4 engine. but to reiterate, Neon ain't a bad thing! they ruled showroom stock class c in SCCA racing in the 90's & ppl have since '93 been hopping up gen 1 & 2 neons to kick srs butt at race courses & the drags or just as your pal here does, a fast and economical, reliable daily..srt-4 or a neon.

wonderful car I had a solar yellow 2003 one first thing I did was have a body shop remove the wing(hate wings) and all the stick ons, was t boned in 2011, miss that car
Great car. I had an 05 with a agp big turbo. I definitely miss it. 2003 had the lower hp of 215. 2004 and 2005 got the bigger injectors and lsd. They were rated at 230hp at the crank but that was not the case lol. Dodge under rated them.
Going to correct you on a few things here. It is a Neon. Yes, in 2004 Dodge removed the Neon name, but if you want to cause a bunch of ruckus in the Neon crowd, tell them that it is not a Neon, or for that matter, that it IS a Neon. People will argue about it endlessly. It is hilarious to watch. Both sides are composed of idiots, because who cares. It kicks ass. This is a 2900 lbs car with 220 horsepower TO THE WHEELS. It actually rates at about 245 engine horsepower, typical behavior by Dodge to underrate the car, they did it all the time with the 426 Hemi back in the day. And for those who want to argue the horsepower, the numbers support the higher hp. Nothing touched this in 2003 for the price, 13.9 quarter mile for under 20,000 for a new car, unheard of. Faster than a WRX, faster than a 350Z, faster than an S2000, faster than a Mustang GT. And yes, this is a Mopar, not sure why you said it isn't. If it is a Dodge, it is a Mopar. Even the stage packages for the SRT-4 were called "Mopar Stage 1" , 2, and 3. 400 SRT is like AMG, but not the STi. SRT/AMG/, Ford's SVT, those are all the performance branches of their respective companies. The STi is a model of the Impreza. Subaru does not have a dedicated branch for performance. That's not to say that the WRX/STi are not great cars, they are, but they are model names. Man that is a big driver for this car, but with that much HP, probably doesn't notice it much. I did 160 MPH in one of these when I was a kid. I’ve had 600cc bikes and other fast cars, but doubt I’ll ever do 160 again. This car being FWD it’s very dramatic and feels faster than it actually is. Car dynoed at 333WHP though so it was no slouch.
If you don't know anything about the years when tunning and mods was all you could do to get cars to produce horse power shut up. Cars back then were not like today's cars with all that factory horse power. Back then the tunning culture was at it's peak. This car is absolutely an icon from those days. Yes, they absolutely messed up by not making it AWD or rear wheel drive but this car is absolutely part of a great moment from the tunning and mods history. Yes it had reliability issues but this car was about creating a base for tunners at a better price. Next time you think about disrespecting Dodge, think about where they are right now. An affordable 700+hp daily driver with useable rear seat? Yes that's where they are today.

They are called Unibodies not chassis. Chassis is mostly for large full sized cars, trucks and SUV's.
I loved these cars starting with my own metallic blue 1998 Neon R/T. No one took the car seriously until they were way back in the rear view - the very definition of SLEEPER - love your enthusiasm for this car, sweet ride, love that kid's mods. I am into MOPARS, but I don't trash talk other brands because I can find a year and model of almost any brand that I like. I have a 2003 SRT4, a 98 Neon R/T, a Turbo 6spd. Dart(2013), a 2011 SRT8 Challenger, a 1969.5 SIX PACK Bee (Q5), 1 Superbird V code Alpine White and a 99 Dodge 3500 Cummins 5 speed. The 2003 SRT4 is a blast to drive as well as the SRT8.

The srt4 was the first car i purchased back in 04... I did not know that i was spoiling myself. I have also purchased a nissan 350z and a nissan gtr. Call me crazy but that srt4 is the craziest bat shit attitude fun car ive owned, and i cant put it down. Ive got a nissan gtr and 350z just sitting because i just love my srt4. Like said i spoiled myself when i bought it. Now other cars are just sub par.

It took me a year and a half and hundreds of cars to find a 2 owner unmolested SRT-4. Mine is also stage 3 E85 over 400 wheel HP. Such a fun an unique car, you gotta weed out the bad to find a good one and you will pay more for a decent car. Most SRT-4 under $7000 are probly not worth your time.

My first SRT I bought was totaled and fully rebuilt it, this one I bought the best example I could find. In the long run you are saving time, money, and headaches by buying a good car. It's hard to undo years of someone else's bad decisions.

Back when these cars came out, I couldn’t afford it. I was still in high school. Funny enough I drove a 95 Neon and lined up with an SRT. It left me standing. 😂 Fast forward until today, and I own an SRT that I’ve been putting back to its old glory.
I am 7 years old with my srt4 2005 and I do not get tired of driving it. I think they should get it out for sale again of course more modern and aggressive

Great points, you nailed this review. I have a modded '03 converted to a '04-05. I agree, this is a much more tuned car to ever call it a Neon. Those that don't respect that, can answer to the SRT-4's tailights. :)

And remember that car was built to destroy everything in his path and if I was only $24,000 brand new and the way they cut cost was to take the car seats out of the viper and adapt to the SRT-4 . plus the gauges were made by autometer to keep their cost down that's why the SRT-4 and srt6 did not come standard with brembo brakes which every SRT did after the SRT-4 models remember they were trying to keep costs down that's why the srt6 AKA crossfire share the same motor as a CLK Mercedes which was a supercharged 3.3 l

I had an orange one I loved it so much I kept it in my garage after buying several other cars and gave it to my friend with only 30 k miles in 2017 it gave me a lot of great memories for 25k it was a bargain and a lot of smiles .

In a straight line, they really are faster...not so much on an autocross course where you have to turn. The good thing is you can work the camber and suspension to make it handle as well as an ST, but for stock class autocrossing, that is not allowed unless it came with the adjustable suspension pieces. I have both in my garage, a 2005 SRT and a 2017 Focus ST.
I owned a orange 2005 srt4 which was the last year produced. I enjoyed everyday i got behind the wheel. I bought it with 21K miles and sold it with only 56K miles. Mine had the mopar stage 3 with toys and a diablo tune and upped the boost alittle , CAI and exhaust, downpipe and coilovers and nice 17 inch asa ar1 back wheels. It sounded so good with the muffler delete and loud but it always got me looks and I beat a lot of hondas. This reivew made me miss my SRT4
If the recession didnt happen these hot cars woulda kept going..now we have boring shit cars

Pretty cool car , even stock and you don’t see a lot of them. As far as suggestions for cars to review. How about a 2012 or 2013 Boss 302. I’ve been watching them and they ‘re coming down in price I have seen them as low as $25,000 ,also most of them have low miles. I think it’s a good car to consider for someone who wants a fun car that will be a future collectible.

He let me drive his and I was instantly hooked because of the power and pickup of a 4 cylinder you would never think that power would be coming from that motor. What im tryin to understand is how is he only make 460 to crank and 390 to the wheels with those mods. My brother had an 03 srt-4 he got it not long after they started selling them and he only had a almost full bolt on with stock fuel system and after we put on his manual boost controller he turned it up to make the factory turbocharger which is only a small t3/t4 if im not mistaken but anyway we maxed the turbo out until we heard turbo surge and turned it back down maybe 2 or 3 psi so we were running roughly 25 give or take a psi because boost creep. Anyway we put it on a dyno and tuned it with bolt-ons and a maced out stock turbo and made 386whp with a stock (Neon) Srt-4 thats what the title said anyway Lol. so it's a neon on steroids in my eyes. And no im not hating I love the srt-4 myself just dont know how this one is not making more power with those kind of mods?

That's a possibility. What type of gas is this one tuned on? Because we were tuned and dyno on 93 pump gas also. we were worried about trying any race fuels we were thinking about putting vp100 and then dyno it to see what it would make but since we were still running a completely stock fuel system and just some minor bolt-ons at the time we decided it probably wouldn't be a good idea since it was his only car and didnt want to risk it. I can say the stock clutch didnt last long after that dyno and tune not sure what they are rated at for max hp that they can handle but I know it hated the high 300's Lol.
He is tuned for pump 93 from what I understand. I can talk to the owner and get some more details!
In reality, the SRT 4 actually dynoed back in the day, full stock, at 228 at the wheels...just two hp shy of advertised crank hp. That would equate to about 270 to 280 crank hp. I have to think they gave it the lower rating strictly for insurance purposes...

Haha , this guy is enthusiastic!! I've had 2 SRT4's and while you might need thick skin to drive them ( especially if you're a male ) :D , they are fun cars.. And if built right , they are very reliable , little rockets. They get hate, Hell it's a neon... It will get hate when its a collector and there is 50 of them left on the planet. But I plan on keeping mine just for that reason. I mean look at how many car chasers want a gremlin! Mine made 450/440 whp/wtq and it is absolutely a blast , until the input shaft snapped ..

so i finally watched the vid, was bizzi earlier, lol! yeah, fast cars, stock & can be upgraded to be rockets, as ya'll show here. I drove one a friend had a month ago, stock mill, lil mods, 17 lbs boost & a short throw shifter. was the 1st manual id driven in yrs and it was like i just did so the day before, was perfect, car hauled ass! was a neon sxt with a srt-4 engine. but to reiterate, Neon ain't a bad thing! they ruled showroom stock class c in SCCA racing in the 90's & ppl have since '93 been hopping up gen 1 & 2 neons to kick srs butt at race courses & the drags or just as your pal here does, a fast and economical, reliable daily..srt-4 or a neon.
...can ya'll find a Caliber SRT-4? 285 hp stock! Hemi cop car front brakes! 19" wheels with huge 255/45ZR19 tires! proof how short sighted ppl are: they only sold like 1,000 of them. was the best deal in performance cars, since ever.
with all the upgrades hes done and with the extra weight the owner brings to the car,makes it as fast as a stock srt4

Great car. I had an 05 with a agp big turbo. I definitely miss it. 2003 had the lower hp of 215. 2004 and 2005 got the bigger injectors and lsd. They were rated at 230hp at the crank but that was not the case lol. Dodge under rated them.

Going to correct you on a few things here. It is a Neon. Yes, in 2004 Dodge removed the Neon name, but if you want to cause a bunch of ruckus in the Neon crowd, tell them that it is not a Neon, or for that matter, that it IS a Neon. People will argue about it endlessly. It is hilarious to watch. Both sides are composed of idiots, because who cares. It kicks ass.
This is a 2900 lbs car with 220 horsepower TO THE WHEELS. It actually rates at about 245 engine horsepower, typical behavior by Dodge to underrate the car, they did it all the time with the 426 Hemi back in the day. And for those who want to argue the horsepower, the numbers support the higher hp. Nothing touched this in 2003 for the price, 13.9 quarter mile for under 20,000 for a new car, unheard of.
Faster than a WRX, faster than a 350Z, faster than an S2000, faster than a Mustang GT. And yes, this is a Mopar, not sure why you said it isn't. If it is a Dodge, it is a Mopar. Even the stage packages for the SRT-4 were called "Mopar Stage 1" , 2, and 3. 400
SRT is like AMG, but not the STi. SRT/AMG/, Ford's SVT, those are all the performance branches of their respective companies. The STi is a model of the Impreza. Subaru does not have a dedicated branch for performance. That's not to say that the WRX/STi are not great cars, they are, but they are model names.
Man that is a big driver for this car, but with that much HP, probably doesn't notice it much. Anyways, really good video, don't want to sound like I'm nitpicking, probably does regardless. Best of luck! - owner 05' CE SRT-4

I did 160 MPH in one of these when I was a kid. I’ve had 600cc bikes and other fast cars, but doubt I’ll ever do 160 again. This car being FWD it’s very dramatic and feels faster than it actually is. Car dynoed at 333WHP though so it was no slouch.

If you don't know anything about the years when tunning and mods was all you could do to get cars to produce horse power shut up. Cars back then were not like today's cars with all that factory horse power. Back then the tunning culture was at it's peak. This car is absolutely an icon from those days. Yes, they absolutely messed up by not making it AWD or rear wheel drive but this car is absolutely part of a great moment from the tunning and mods history. Yes it had reliability issues but this car was about creating a base for tunners at a better price. Next time you think about disrespecting Dodge, think about where they are right now. An affordable 700+hp daily driver with useable rear seat? Yes that's where they are today.
