Parts 2 and 3 of this mystery are in there ^
Its very possible for you to solve it in a traditional non easter egg method. First thing you need to decode is which direction the text is supposed to be read. Is it left to right, right to left, top to bottom or bottom to top. Next you need to find repeating symbols and make a type of alphabet. Find lines of repeating symbols and find trends. How often is ~ used and where is it used. Things like that. And maybe you will be able to decode its meaning
@@benrussell460 I have done all of that and much more to no avail - it's not a simple substitution cipher if it is a cipher. Many others have done the same. I have a few methods I think are promising, but they're far to complex to type in a comment, which is why I'm working on a video covering the topic!
@@RedNomster awesome. Btw do you have a discord? I have been deeply interested in the easter eggs and lore of halo but dont have the attention span to look into it myself

Ya looove to see it!
Co-llab-or-ation?
I think you just discovered one of the most important details to the future of halo.
Perhaps! :)
Dude, this video was excellently made
I appreciate the kind words 🤝
Working hard on similar videos as we speak!
Phenomenal editing and narration. No bland/reading powerpoint slides in a monotonous voice but genuine interest that easily translates over to the viewer. Thank you for this video!
Thanks for the feedback Maxim! Easy to tell a story when the story tells itself
I’m just starting down this rabbit hole now, the fact that this took so long to be recommended to me is criminal. Your editing, especially at the end there, literally had me giddy with excitement. This is the type of community effort I love in games, and the fact that things like this are being found about these games years later, being brought back by 343 later. It just makes me so happy. I’m watching the other ones now, but even just from this one man you are killing it. Love this.
So the brutes uncovered the secrets of the endless when digging in sandtrap, and that is what set Atriox off to release them?
Precisely. Here is a voice log to support my theory:
Escharum: The Harbinger is free. I do not trust her, but I must believe in Atriox's plan. His sacrifice must not have been in vain. Especially now. His faith in what we learned on the Ark is all I need. The Harbinger is but a first move… To secure our position. Our future. Did Cortana know about all this when she chose this Ring? Did she expect it would be her tomb also? As I look upon this endless world. That question consumes me.
*what we learned on the ark*
Sandtrap was on the ark. :)
@@RedNomster it's crazy how many intricate details the halo community can find and 343 manages to bring in. I really hope they expand on this.
Perhaps sandtrap was initially used to contain the endless, but for one reason or another, they couldn't be kept there long term?
The towers, the minefield, they weren't protecting sandtrap.
They were containing what was inside of it
Another idea.
Sandtrap didnt have the endless, it merely contained the portal room connecting to their true chamber of captivity, just like the silent auditorium. I now bring forward sandbox. Powerfull turrets guard, what, a crater? No, they guard what came from underneath. That room under it, probably completely covered by the sand before, could've contained something. Who says there aren't more rooms alike it underneath and to the side of it? Sandbox was broken out of, the sand was pushed away from the center as the endless crawled out, the turrets and forerunners managed to contain them. The site was abandoned and its main exit, sandtrap, fell to the same fate. The old chambers were abandoned and their design was scraped, proving to be ineffective or dysfunctional in some way.
Okay I put way too much work into this comment I'm copying and pasting this into an actual comment
Sounds right, as for WHY Atriox needs to awaken them, because they are the only way to defeat The Created... the Created control Installation 09, and thus they have a gun pointed at the head of the galaxy.
The only way to defeat them is to make that gun useless, by awakening something the gun wont work on.
@@urktheturtle2988 what are the Created?
i remember theory crafting about sandtrap on the bus ride to school. i remember making a really bad indiana jones esque machinima with my xbox live friends where the crypt under sandtrap was our ark of the covenant. i havent thought about those textures in so long. what a kick in the nostalgia organ this video was. this has reinvigorated a feeling of love for halo i havent felt since i was a kid. phenomenal video. i could watch a 3 hour video doc style video about this topic!!
Personally, i think the room on Zeta Halo where you fight the harbinger is where Mendicant Bias was judged, and punishment declared. Sandtrap is where he is imprisoned in a tomb.
i think that this is correct. why else would they have him buried in a desert and the brutes wanting to free a part of bias? or even maybe learn a part of him?
@@ExtinctSenju and isn’t there a history of the Forerunners burying things of importance in deserts anyways? I thought I remember hearing something similar to that from Xperia
@@depressionmedication7851 mendicant bias yes he was buried in a desert to be forever lost but i think that this connects to bias and infinite, sandtrap's weird hieroglyphics are also in infinites campaign to release the endless. Even atriox somehow has a fragment of offensive bias or mendicant bias at the end of the campaign!
@@depressionmedication7851 that’s exactly right I believe the video was the one about the end of halo infinity and where you’re teleported you at the end which is believed to be where the endless are buried beneath the sand but that is just a theory of Xperia’s
Yo that’s kinda interesting
Holy shit this is a crazy finding. I think were getting steps closer to discovering what this means. Perhaps in Campaign dlc we can find out even more.
I'm planning on doing another playthrough because this part of the map gets locked after beating the game - gotta do more digging :)
@@RedNomster Oh definitely there has to be something more in this part of the campaign, good hunting 👀
Now i mush go investigate for myself in the other parts of the map
Maybe it has something to do with the scattered rings over the map as the main monitor of Zeta installation was perplexed about how they came to be there and their meaning.
We still have to see Atriox
I always wondered why the developers put so much effort into making Sandtrap look so mysterious and detailed.. makes so much sense!! I love halo lore
It was in no way planned. Clearly. None of halo lore is
Dude, my eyes literally welled up when I saw that text in Infinite.

Bro, you has me for literally the entire video, to think that Bungle and 343 though this far ahead while making small details is genuinely amazing
Damn, this is really impressive. I hope this does lead somewhere. The future of the lore in Halo is looking really promising
Man I never thought the big mystery that had people in halo 3 trying to find an answer would finally be expanded on. Man i love halo
How does this not have 10000x more views!? The nostalgia overload and how they've worked that tablet in is... beautiful.
I Believe I found an Easter Egg but I don't know Morse Code!!!!! , If you go to the top of the mountain where you kill the target Writh kul, look out into the out of bounds area underneath the floating island in front of you, their is lightning pulses in erratic sequences. Pls spread the word
you should make a video on the lightning
Mind-blown throughout the entire vid. Not just superb cyber sleuthing but entertaining delivery as well. Instant Sub!
i remember first playin epitaph and sandtrap and noticing those symbols. halo 3 was such a detailed and gorgeous game man. every mp map in the game is fun to just walk around on and discover hidden texts or extremely detailed textures. always blew me away how great this game still looks, and how high res the textures were for being released on the 360 in 2007.
I swear to god, this is the most excited for a deep lore story I've ever been. Don't you DARE tell me that we have been seeing Forerunner silexes since Halo 3. And if individuals can be desilexed as Harbinger was, could we literally see one of the OG big names get 'resurrected'? Could we see Librarian or Faber or Bornstellar make another appearance in the galaxy?
Bornstellar, Faber, Livrarian are most likely long dead. I know Bornestellar died natural death from aging after he regained his own personaility after the great journey ended.
My man, you are indeed onto something!
Also, could the "Meddlers" be the Endless? An unknown ship had crash-landed on Installation 04, and 343 Guilty Spark was completely dumbstruck with the fact that it belonged to an "unknown species".
Considering that at that time we knew they catalogued "all" sentient life in the galaxy, people theorized that this was a 1st contact event beyond the Milky Way.

Your presentation of this is great, gave me chills.

@@RedNomster also bungie, and now I guess 343, are the only devs who would just throw an Easter egg in the game, and if people don’t figure it out, just say very little for like 15 years lmao.

I'm happy you enjoyed! It's an fun story to tell so I wanted to make sure I did it right :D Part 2 comes tomorrow!
I remember hearing the theory that something was _contained_ beneath Sand Trap and sandbox, since all of the turrets faced inwards, and now the idea of a secret so dangerous the Forerunners couldn't destroy it but merely contain it is the plot of Halo Infinite. This absolutely has significance!
Agreed, the coincidence is too strong 🤯
I had thought it was a captured fragment of mendicant bias put under interrogation. Granted the time table was a bit wonky for it, yet now after this video. It makes me wonder if Sandtrap was one of the first sites of altercation between Endless and Forerunner. What if the forerunners committed a crime against the Endless under the guise of upholding the mantle of responsibility. They did the same with humanity, why not the Endless?
damn i’ve never even played halo and this is still an incredible find, thank you for sharing. i can’t wait to see more people finding this video
Thanks, still glad you're here! I'm just scratching the surface I hope. Share this vid with whomever won't think you're crazy
I understand your obsession with the secret of sandtrap so much. I remember being 11 years old spending HOURS on forge flying around studying the texts, holograms... being excited when sandbox was released. One place I didn't see you mention in this video.... is seeing the text, or Hieroglyphs as I call them... on the Halo3 campaign mission "The Ark"
Holy shit this is incredible.
First of all, awesome video, you did a good job in explaining the theory clearly and there's a good amount of humour that keeps it very entertaining to watch.
Sandtrap has been one of my favourite Halo maps of all time, I adore it's aesthetic and the mystery (or story) behind it, mostly because I used to spent most of my time playing forge by myself since I didn't have access to Xbox Live back then.
It's always been a head scratcher for me as to what happened on Sandtrap
Why is there a UNSC frigate floating above it?
Why are there giant pillars surrounding the ruins? With deadly mines too surrounding the crater
There were clearly UNSC activity inside the ruins which implies that they have done research on it (also on the Elephant lower deck holographic screen)
But why is the ruin so important?
Is it even the whole structure that we're seeing?
What is it trying to hide? What happened?
Why did the Brutes abandoned it?
So seeing how it may (hopefully IS) tied to Halo Infinite and future stories by this theory, got me incredibly excited and really happy.
Again, awesome stuff.
Really appreciate the feedback man, very motivated to do more stuff like this now :) I really hope they have dlc that at least offers some answers to the sandtrap lore!
Personally, I'm almost sure the Endless are the thing contained in Sandtrap now.
maybe the "Brutes" were banished, since the banished was created by a brute (and I think most of them are brutes too)
@@odstat1949 is the endless a concept by 343? Infinite is the first I’ve heard of them. Could 343 be taking bungie’s original vision/Easter egg of sand trap and making it their own? I’m not too knowledgeable on halo lore
@@SanJose408Alex Yeah, before there really wasn't actually anything down there. It's just implied and suggested, but nothing is actually explored and fleshed out, at least from what I know. However, 343 created the Endless and that also managed to fill in the gap for what was under Sandtrap, and but this is more blurry to be honest. While it's basically saying the Endless is under there now, you really can't be sure since it hasn't been confirmed, but everything seems to be pointing at it.
Dude this is some next level commitment and investigation!
Thanks man! I'm in too deep :D love your movies btw
Baskin Robbins always finds out
@@RedNomster Haha I wish I was *that* Paul Rudd and not just *a* Paul Rudd
Wait a minute. So this would explain why sandtrap is a massive crater. Because the banished were digging there originally to try and uncover whatever they've been after this whole time? Which explains why the new OP dig site is a massive crater as well.
Or could it be that the supposed "Endless" were there digging for something before the banished which explains why sandtrap is so old?
I don't think the endless were digging, the text is forerunner so it isn't older than them at least, and the endless have been locked in the Silent Auditorium since 97,000 BCE.
At 11:00 I make the connection that the holographic symbol on sandtrap is a Endless cylix too, and the sandtrap text appearing nearby is the same thing as the sandtrap text appearing in the Silent Auditorium: a warning, or a message of sorts, left by those who imprisoned the endless.
Sort of like an... epitaph for the entire species
@@RedNomster So is it possible that sand trap is where the forerunners initially discovered the technology. Since in sand trap there were really no forerunner hints like statues etc other than the text obviously.
By the by, It'd be the covenant digging at sandtrap; not the banished. but the banished could've easily taken inspiration from what they did on sandtrap.
@@finisterre2415 well I don’t know much about the lore of that map so it could have specifically said that the covenant were the ones digging but if it didn’t it still could have been the banished because they did exist around that time since it’s been said that the covenant were both fighting the humans and the banished at the same time so they’re not entirely new
@@lance8515 True, but don't forget; from what we know (Unless it's retconned in future) the only time the banished were on forerunner installations, was during the ark conflict with the spirit of fire (HW2) and Zeta Halo, or Installation 07 if you want to be pedantic. (Infinite)
this video is incredibly underrated. This holds some incredibly insightful research

When the monitor discusses the fact that the forerunners should be forgotten, I was always curious as it seemed that the other monitors were upset at their loss of the history. Perhaps on each one of their installations, they left enough clues so that the future civilizations could uncover not only their history, but their true history not tainted by the forerunners legacy preservation.
This is probably the greatest iceberg fkn story detail I’ve ever seen
No bs or anything, just straight up "I love Halo Lore" had to be said as I watched this. No game will beat it

Happy holidays
At 11:10 you flashed to a cylix wih a six legged symbol on it, personally the symbol in halo 3 reminds me more of the table atriox put that thing onto in the end credits. Both are 4 legged
It's a loose connection, of course. Though, I wanted to include it because holographic "wrench" shaped icons overlapping is a pretty obscure coincidence, especially considering the sandtrap text is engraved onto cylixes in halo infinite - the same cylixes that have the endless' wrenched-shaped icons overlapping.
This is a really awesome find man. And hey, sandtrap is a desert, Chief seemed to be teleported to a desert. Can't wait for the campaign dlc
When did chief seemed to be teleported into a desert?
@@sireromen5364 At the end of the game when he comes out of the portal he jumps into when the silent auditorium is collapsing.
@@dovesr0478 No but then you go back to finish the fight and finish free roam activities.
@@sireromen5364 Not sure what you're trying to say. The story of the game ends with Chief and the Weapon boarding the pelican in a desert-like area, after popping out of the portal that they somehow spent 3 days inside. 11:35 I can't help but turning my head sideways, and seeing a lot of those ancient texts are numbers. Since watching this is the first time I'm aware of all of this, I assume others have already noticed this and tried to work out if the numbers extrapolate into something else.

Beautifully done! Earned a subscribe here! Hope they expand on this alone. Maybe a dlc about solving this particular mystery
Thanks Niloc! Next video will be a deep dive into the text itself. Yes, dlc is one of the best possibilities for solving this mystery. Or even the ability to load different quicksaves - replaying the whole game to investigate previous areas is slow-going lol
Crazy to think I was once that 11 year old on xbox live trying not to annoy the cool-older guys I was let to play with online, and so many of us were that kid. Now playing this new title, some making comprehensive, deep dive videos. Some playing in pro leagues, or even just enjoying it like we used to, with new groups of friends, and some of us reunited with old xbox buddies from over a decade ago....
I think this Easter egg finally just sold me my copy of Infinite Campaign. Thanks for making this video man, that was really cool.
Love this kinda stuff in halo, i strongly urge those who havent already, to look up the theories on the odst glyphs. Its similarly facinating
I've been deep down in the 9th ring of hell, too. The glyphs are definitely on the same playing field as the ancient text!
I knew sandtrap was too goddamn cool to just be a multiplayer map.
Halo 3 maps were so mysterious, plus with our knowledge about the dev history tells us alotta maps were from cut/redesigned levels.
I get the feeling that 343 saw all the conspiracy videos from back in the day and decided to create an entire lore revolving around what were originally just random textures designed to decorate and flesh out a multiplayer map. The thing about these sorts of things that they most often don't mean anything at all, but the people who designed them knew that part of creating good aesthetics is making things that look like they have meaning and then using that to create an overall design philosophy.
I'm so incredibly thankful that I just randomly stumbled upon this video.
As an avid Halo fan, this has me geeking. Perfect timing as I'm just now re-reading the Forerunner Saga. Only about a third left of Silentium.

Congratulations my dude you revived an ancient Easter egg that we've been trying to figure out since halo three can't wait to crack it wide open

You, my friend, have earned yourself a like and a sub.
I was intrigued by these texts when I was younger but always made myself an easy target when I tried to look at them, thus I would often load the map alone just to look at them and try to make sense on them.
Eventually, I assumed they were nothing but a texture to add an ancient ambience to the map and forgot about them until I watched this video.
I do remember someone on a community board somewhere back in the day said they believed it was the game credits in code.
Could this be plausible?
It'd be awfully short credits tbh, but perhaps a signature of the artist/art team?

Bro you are literally a genius. Absolutely unbelievable. Im literally going to go play infinite now and look for more secrets
Amazing research, honestly I'm more interested in your commentary than the main story of Infinite at this point. When I was 13 and playing Halo 3 for the first time I must've run past this tablet over and over just thinking it looked cool and not paying any mind to it Sandtrap is still one of my favorite maps. I have a hunch that the next expansion to Infinite's storyline will take us into the desert to follow Atriox and the endless, and hopefully we'll learn more about the meaning of the text there.
Somehow my commentary turned into a chilling ghost story and I'm not even mad lol. I feel like that campaign dlc is very likely!
343i just copyrighted the name "Halo: The Endless". Campaign DLC will be coming soon.
No cap though? You’re insane. Your girlfriend was being kind when she said ramblings of a mad man. Good video.
I suspect the text has some connection to a plot point or concept that Bungie was never able to incorporate into the original trilogy. Many changes to the story were being made while Halo 3 was in development. Assuming this is the case then 343 must have picked up on it and through Halo Infinite they have now found a means to explore this idea - whatever it maybe.
Yess I was thinking the same thing. I wonder what the original vision was for the sandtrap mystery. Still cool asf tho to see it given a new life
Halo 3 was once Halo 2 part 2, and they were also writing for a potential Halo 4. A lot was unimplemented, there might be more stuff.
@@eyeballpapercut4400 Perhaps the Endless were originally part of that plan - or some variation of them. It will be interesting to see.
I might have found something interesting in Halo INFINITE. The sixth forerunner artefact is a recording of Despondent Pyre which say she is trying to decript the runes. She mention that the greatest fear of the Forerunner was bot the Flood but in fact losing their power, from masters to slaves of other species.
You should dig that up !
The seventh artefact says that some runes on a monument say "Ennemy within". It could be just a subtle easter egg to predict next game or dlc. But could also be a key to unlock the mystery.
I've been looking into this, seems too much of a coincidence, so possibly a hint 🤔
@@RedNomster Say, did anyone tried to translate the runes not as a language itself but as a form of secret code? The runes almost makes me think of a code under the form of surface paterns. Just like what JPL did on the parachute of the marsian rover, that contained a secret message.
Did someone tried to crack it that way?
Great find! I hope you can work with other Halo explorers like rocket sloth to dig deeper
I'm in the rocket sloth discord - I don't think I've ever seen him in the sandtrap code channel. He basically takes the info that the community supplies and makes a video, he's not actively searching afaik unfortunately. Would be cool, though 😎
Something about Sandtrap always kinda seemed special to me, back in the day. Maybe it's the fact that it was one of the more easily overloadable maps? "Ghosts of Halo". Takes me back a bit.
I don't even know how i found your channel/video but this deserves a lot more attention :D never watched a video that made so much sense but the sandtrap symbol does not look like the endless symbol :p also how are the odds that parts of infinites story are 14 years old somehow i cant belive that but it makes too much sense especially the brutes on sandtrap and now in the conservertory 👍 nice video can't wait for more or more story dlc but thats gonna take a while :/
These are one of those theories that retroactively make something better and I love it!
Wow, just wow. This was mind-blowing to say the least. Awesome video, you've earned a subscriber.
Appreciate it Lengthy, stick around for my deep dive into the text itself!
I always love watching investigative videos on video game mysteries, like the famous one on Shadows of the Colossus. Devs even added an easter egg in the remaster due to the fan dedication. I'm sure 343 will give us more clues or answers in future contents if fans are paying attention.
I sure hope so :) yeah man last time I checked, there's still a guy trying to solve the shadow of colossus stuff! You should check out oddheader if you haven't, great egg hunting channel and his Tony hawk videos are incredible
7:42 Just a tid bit I noticed but the patterning on the 3rd face resembles some of the patterns in epitaph, the rooms on the ark and the cut guardian concepts. In rocket sloth's video on the cut guardian content they dug into the level tags and the room with the patterns is labelled guardian room. Halo 5 did kinda do the guardians already but the fact the old halo 3 guardian hologram also pops up again in the level where we're introduced to the cylixes can't be a coincidence. Perhaps 343 has a different intention for those old concepts playing more into the stories/mysteries behind the maps epitaph, sandtrap and citadel
I think it's likely that they're playing into old concepts - Staten is the writer of infinite, and the writer of H2. Much of H2's story spilled into H3 according to Staten himself. :)
"it looks cool, put it in"
"does it mean anything"
"Nope"
"very well"
Well seems odd how there’s 3 Faces. Ancient text on Halo3 and 3 tablets in the silent auditorium 3 games later from halo 3. Idk if that is just a coincidence but seems interesting.
And then 3 numbers in the developers name 💀. Contains the number 3 💀💀💀💀
This has been in the works for that many years! The ENDLESSSSSS
Lol. I thought the same thing. When I saw those statues, I was like “Those are supposed to be Forerunners? They kinda look like Lifeworkers ngl.”
Lifeworkers do be forerunners so it works out haha
If remember correctly the tablet contains the edict that imprisoned the endless (precursors, back in the day), that’s why it has that importance in the sites, and it’s an amalgamation of different “languages” for the easier translation…
This guy like rock
yuh
Yo sounds actually digging into some of this stuff! Subscribed
Good video, I haven’t been exited about a halo mystery in a long time
Would looove Campaign DLC set in a Desert biome
"Spoiler"
After chief gets teleported, you can see that the ring is broken on the complete other side. Meaning the desert is the other side of the planet relative to the main story. Would love if they introduce new dlc you can fast travel to, back and forth, the same way the pelican picks you up at takes you back to tremonious:)
Very informative video. I never even noticed the ancient text inscribed on those statues in Infinite. Didn’t even know that had brought it back. Great attention to detail and keen eye, you got there.
Appreciate it! Easier to find if you're actively looking for it haha
