Just wanna say thanks, I recently discovered pathfinder WOTR thru you and for my first play through I’m using your archangel Gabriel build (the cleric/crusader angel) and I’m having a blast!
my man, just wanted to jump on ur most recent video here to thank you personally for all the Pathfinder wotr content u got out on ur channel that ive been skimming thru lately! they are a pleasure to view both in terms of the content itself and ur personal touches. i literally cant wait to both play the game and chill with one or two of ur videos after a long day at work and im sure im far from alone in that! one love and again, thanks alot.
Regarding chants/invocations: If memory serves, once the duration of the last phrase in a chant is finished, the character immediately starts the chant from the beginning again. So going Dragon, Soft Winds, Dragon in the chant screen has your character chant Dragon, Soft Winds, Dragon, Dragon, Soft Winds, Dragon, etc.
So happy to have found your channel. As someone who is trying to break into the CRPG genre after playing open world RPGS and D&D for half of my life, your guidance has been invaluable. Your videos on Pathfinder Wrath of The Righteous and now Pillars of Eternity have given me a solid base of knowledge to help me get through these games. I am excited to start one of these ganes on my new Xbox series X as reward to myself after my college graduation in early May. So grateful for the information and I am excited to see more content from you in the future
Pillars of eternity 2 was my introduction into CRPGs in 2022 and I LOVED it. I just started playing Pillars of Eternity 1 and can't help but notice the huge difference in the chanter class. Chanters seemed more fun and effective in PoE 2.
12:25 you may not know that, but on release and for couple of weeks, this phrase was absolutely broken, god-tier, OP. It had multiplier of 2.0 later reduced to 1.2, everything melted before it got a chance to walk up to you.
Thank you very much for this video, I have recently found Kana and didn’t know what on earth was going on with the songs! This is a very clear and detailed video! Ps. Thank you too for being so passionate with your content, I hope your channel begins to grow even more going forward 🙂
One of my favorites. This game's version of a bard. Buff? Check? Debuff? Check. Summon? Check. love it. Hell in Poe 2 multiclass with cipher and it's bananas. Would always rp as a Rauatai scholar as an undercover agent for the RDC with chanter/cipher
I want to thank you my man this video helped me understand the chanter role much better as I was playing with a very shit chanter build before but now I'm doing much better damage and making better decisions
Lol. Your take on chanter is.. different. I can't say I agree with it all, but that's what an opinion usually leads to so love is love. Outside of that I would say the lvl 2 invocation is not mediocre as it can heal multiple team mates and in step with the chanter theme doesnt have a limited spellslot like priest and is instead regulated by the speed in which you can stock the necessary invocations. In short there's a reason why one of the first ironman parties to clear this game on potd had two chanters, as opposed to two priests. I don't mind the varied opinions, it's actually one of the best things about the entire rpg space. When you replay the games.. hopefully you'll run different party combinations that'll show some of the nuances that you personally see in the classes. Chanter remains one of the more versatile classes in terms of all the gaps it can fill in a party, even more so if there are more than one, this was also the case for pillars2. If you play 2 again and consider doing megaboss runs, it'll be interesting what team you think up.
As things stand right now if I play through the series again it would definitely be as a Chanter. The class seems really cool and I am interested in how powerful it becomes when setup properly.
Great breakdown on phrases and how they work, I finally understand how it works! Chanter is pretty cool but I'd never pick it for my Watcher not in PoE 1 at least. Major downside for Chanter is you don't really get to use it's abilities until you're in a long fight and half it's kit is too automated for my tastes. Though unlike Priest you don't run out of resources so while it's better with buffing the party in those rare long ass fights Chanter overlapping with a Priest can be a great boon.
Great video! I've played the game many times and this is the first time I have actually understood how the chanter works. I think PoE2 did chanters better where you start combat with a few phrases already under your belt and can blast out something more or less straight away. Btw I don't know if they changed this, but chanters used to be able to still chant the dragon thrashed even while under the withdraw spell, so a tactic was to put Kana in the middle of a group chanting then cast withdraw and it was guaranteed damage with no risk.
Thanks for this series. Ironically I actually took a break from my very first PoE playthrough to go play WOTR (and got sucked in hard). Once I dig myself out I'll definitely be looking to your videos to sort out my ideas for other characters!
Hurry up and get to Monk! And never forget: Any punk can kill a dragon by casting level 9 "You Die Now!" or swinging around an "Axe of Ultimate Dragon Pwnage". Only TRUE legends can PUNCH the giant fire lizard to death!
Ahh another monk enthusiast. My first tabletop DnD character was a monk. Really want to do a full playthrough in a game as a monk. Trying to decide between Pillars of Eternity 1&2 or Wrath of the Righteous or Kingmaker.
Howzitgoin' Sam? Thank you a lot for the video, the chanter seems interesting! I'm interested in seeing the cipher though, so I can't wait for your next video. See ya soon!
I never finished pillars of eternity, put Chanter is my favourite class, i love playing bards, smart characters, and summoners. And Chanter is all of those. + continuing my comment about tyranny from the "part 1: Barbarian", one of your companions in this game, has a unique mechanic, that is exactly what Chanter has, but less "complicated" (and by "complicated" i mean, she still sings songs, and can use some abilities after singing enough verses, but she has only few abilities instead of a whole spellbook)
At first I didn't use Chanters because I didn't understand them. Then I didn't use Chanters because they either spam level 1 phrases to use invocations, or spam Dragon Thrashed to deal AoE burn damage. And they don't do much else.
Personally I love this class. It was the class I played during my first playthrough of Pillars of Eternity. It is surprisingly tough class when all that you expect is a bard from other RPGs.
@@SlanderedGaming what I find fascinating about it is that this class is in fact for world population's collective memory which is used to empower all these phrases and invocations. This in fact enforces an approach that if something really important happened it would provide another phrase.
I just picked up PoE again, debating if i should buy the White march part 1. With the implementation of White March, CON and Dex had changes that impacted those stats significantly, and deflection was yet again nerfed which made tanking even harder. At the release of the game, you could build a paladin almost invulnerable with shield because of the insane deflection they could reach.
Have you played POE II: Deadfire, yet? The Chanter Class and subclasses in that game are genuinely bonkers. They did a MUCH better job rounding out the chanter class to play support, crowd control, or summoner. It's extremely effective. Couple that with the multi-classes (for example with Paladin) and you can create an unkillable healer capable of providing damage buffs, debuffs, status buffs, and so on. Love the chanter in POE 2
@@phantomvulpe791 Hell yeah. Cipher in Deadfire is absolutely bonkers. The ability to cast Charmed and Bling at Level PL1, Secret Horrors at PL3, Disintegration at PL6, Brilliant at Power Level 7 makes Cipher absolutely a S-tier build. And the subclasses are ABSURD. I'm running an Ancient Druid/Psion Cipher. Summons and CC all over the damn place.
I've been on and off playing Bloodmage/trobadour combo in PoE2, really (wizard for damage/defence, Chanter for healing and well more damage/CC) in turn based, it really has a lot to do every turn unlike the base chanter
Tried to make a decent chanter once or twice - since they do have the potential to solo if you build them right; BUT good luck doing that - Biggest problem they have IS the singing mechanic. The effects are not always clearly beneficial to you. Some are incredibly situational (so you need to be willing and able to READ all of the effects before you decide on the pick) and frankly the fact that the chanter's "spells" are tied to how many phrases you sing [Which is a difficult thing for a new player to wrap their head around - and wasn't that easy for me as a fairly advanced one after a run or three attempted * Though again, I never got past act 3, as I got bored by that point even on my best runs] ends up meaning you will VERY likely never see the Chanter cast a spell. If you do, it won't be more than one. So again, best to READ the effects to be sure it's what you want when you pick them. Otherwise, Aquerebus. Boom! with decent armor, and the right stats, you're golden. {A little less so if they manage to close to melee distance, but not by too much - depending on difficulty level indulged} * Side note: I'm a little further into ACT 3 now in WOTR. They throw WAY too much at you all at once. But I'm making some progress - and the Crusade hasn't whooped my arse that badly just yet. I'm holding off attacking the forts near enough to me to get to, since I don't want to risk too big a dip in Morale. But with Neoseeker and stuff I got from you; I might actually figure out how to get to ACT 4. O. o I'll reign in the Snoopy Dance just yet... but baby steps. Or I could make like WOTR's AI and do the Robot? ** People tend to take "Rejoice, My Comrades" for both the immunities to debuffs (especially on harder difficulties) and if you don't want to deal with Mogren. There are those that consider any healing to be a good thing. It's decent for a tank, but your not wrong that it's not the best. It's not game-breaking, by any rate. [Old Siec is also one of the ways you can Solo as a Chanter - since it heals you with every hit for a set amount - it's situational but it depends on how you view a Tank Role; some will say unhittable AC is what counts - IE deflection, and others prefer to be Wolverine] The champion braved the horde alone is very specifically designed for those that want to play the Chanter as a Solo. Otherwise I'd agree it's not brilliant. There are several spells that they created with the viewpoint that not every player would want a full party - or any party. * Apologies for so many edits; one final point I'll make is RAW damage is rare. It's ALWAYS good to have, because it can't be resisted by the enemies defenses or immunities. So it's dangerous to a point, but Boil Their Flesh is considered one of the more powerful in the Chanter's array, and one of the best in the game. Hope you're having a good day.
Int doesn't make your chants last longer ? What about a low int chanter with the shield chant , so you get 34 shield refreshed faster and all DPS invocations . Do you think a rambler would work ? Of course you need to be in melee
Any bard-type character should use the Chanter as a template. Absolutely brilliantly-implemented class.
One of the most creative support classes invented in the history of CRPGs. Glad you are giving it credit and justice.
Yeah they did a fantastic job with the mechanics.
