I disagree on the lack of voice acting being a detriment. In which places would voice acting be optimal? If you would put an actor for a narrator or for the text that the player protagonist is not supposed to know but is instead explained to them, I don't think that would be the best use of voiced lines. If you're going to put a voice actor(s) for the player protagonist you will need quite a range of voices doing lines for every possible outcome a player could make. This is not impossible but given that this is an indie game they don't have the budget for it. If you're going to put actors for the various characters, the whole point is that they are essentially tools for your ascension. And also the text is mainly on the third person (or at least from the perspective of the player) when referring to the different characters in the game. Sure there are some lines of dialogue from them but not enough to justify voice acting from a mainly 3rd person pov text. In my opinion it would just be a distraction and may lead to over stimulation if its just added on. The game designer even said that the game was made in a way to allow the imagination of the players to play a large role and it shows.
Don't get me wrong I love the game. And the 8.5 is mostly because the delivery of the story. It's not gonna be for everyone precisely because of that delivery, many people aren't gonna put up with the it which is sad because the payoff is very much worth it.
Sorry, it's kind of hard to convey it in a comment, but what I meant by delivery isn't exclusively the heavily text based nature of it. But by how the player really needs to dig and piece together everything and many people won't have that patience. And it's not necessarily that I penalize but rather than I know I can't recommend it to everyone, but those who dig it, it's gonna be excellent because the payout is so worth it. In my opinion, this may be a perfect example of a niche game, not for everybody, but those who dig it, really love it.
It’s 50% off now, I’m thinking about picking it up. What you mentioned about meeting members of cult you made for previous run etc had me intrigued.
Yeah, it's a good game, if the reading doesn't scare you away I would go for it.

8.5/10 narrative? That's a real low grade if you've gotten far in the game

@@ngaged I agree, but you already penalized them on that in presentation. Seems unfair to double dip

@@ngaged guess you're right, I'm definitely firmly in that niche

It looks like you cannot lay the cards where ever you want.😓
card animations cost money which does not appeal to this lazy dev neither does good writing.. such lazy endings
