The one G1 Transformer that I hope to really get my hands on is Sideswipe, thankfully he's been reissued at least once, but still difficult to hunt down.
Thank you for the stroll down memory lane. Mirage always looked better as an indy car vs his robot mode. It was the fact he transformed that put him and that G1 wish list in my hand to amass the collection I once had before our house foreclosed and everything had to go from a 3 1 1 rent house into storage as we moved into a 2 1 apt. Countless rains, floods additional moves to other storages, Apts and houses everything was ruined by water or being crushed and trampled on trying to salvage dad's 2000+ soggy record collections. The weight of those records collapsed my boxes underneath and that smell of wet cardboard (like the memories of my collections) will always remain in my mind as there's no way to afford replacing everything I once had. 10k now for the Flagg alone let alone the size of the house needed to be able to display such a collection. Thank you all for putting the past right in front of us that have lost what we once had. Memories fade but you and others like you that keep posting these videos allow us to remember what once was and how it used to be before having to let go for what ever reason. Cheers!!
Wow, sorry about your collection damage. I had my basement flood 7-8 years ago while I was at work. My wife and kids acted fast and were able to save 80% of my collection, but I lost things I still haven't been able to replace. I realize that toys are a link to the past, and I try to put that feeling in every video."Til all are one"
Gitanes is a brand of cigarettes in France and the primary sponsor of the Lieger company's race cars, Hasbro intentionally spelled with a C to avoid legal issues, *elf* is brand of oil in Europe and 26 is the racing position number. This figure's fatal flaw is that center post the torso twists on, it was ALWAYS broken after a few days play, my sister had Mirage and it snapped in short order!
I know how you feel George I never saw a Mirage transformer in the shops and none of the other kids had one ether. Like you I only got him as an adult. I’m actually in the middle of restoring him. I have had to buy a couple so that I can have all the parts I need. Also I got a ko red boxed one as a gift 🤖🤖🤖
indy1935 “now you know”. my fav part when we get some cool trivia! keep up the great work! if i remember right i was at toys r us back in 84/85. i had somehow narrowed down between mirage and trailbreaker. went with trailbreaker for some reason. i remember studying all the boxes at toys r us trying to decide that day. comparing the artwork, description on back, and how cool they looked in robot/vehicle mode. etc. i wasnt allowed to get more expensive guys. i really wanted optimus or a jet. they must have been more expensive.
I can’t remember why I went with Trailbreaker. If I were to choose today it would def have been Mirage. I like the weapons, robot, colors etc. Really weird. We had a ton of transformers out this way but I remember not being able to find Optimus later on. I think this was before 86. Sort of like with motu I could never find Orig or battle armor skeletor except that once when mom said no at k-mart. Then with thundercats I saw Tygra and Panthro and chose Panthro. The only other time I saw tygra was version 2 of his figure. But wasn’t allowed to get him then. Never saw him again but tons of Panthro! Also saw Slythe once and never again at BEST.
Then there was this other time at k-mart my dad treated me and i got the thundertank. I remember it was raining and overcast. Man i was begging hard that day. There was a huge pile of them out in the center isle stacked up. I got that thing home and tried to put the rubber tank treads on and snap one ripped in half. I was sitting on the living rooom floor by the stairs. I asked dad what do we do. He took me back to the store that night and returned it but I didn’t get a replacement. Lol he was pissed at how cheap it was made and the price and I must have been being a pain in the neck. haha I wound up with nothing that day!
Another great video! Never had Mirage as a kid. Not sure why. He is a nice looking figure and I always liked his character on the show. It might have been because one of my friends had him and we usually tried to get different Transformers so we had more of a variety when we played with them. I think he also owned Trailbreaker, so that was another one I never owned that also looked good.
23:52 And knowing's half the battle. Great review as always; I love the episode scene reenactment Anyway, I waited until the end to see if you would mention it, and yeah Mirage has got to be one of the most commonly broken G1 figure next to Swoop.
I missed him on the shelves in '84 but ordered him and Sunstreaker from the mail-in brochure a little later. I waited an eternity (6 to 8 weeks) for him to show up in the mail. What I got instead was my money order returned with a note saying they had sold out of the figures. I still have that money order. Don't ask me why. 😐
First thanks for sharing your story! I've heard stories about them running out of stock! I also heard people that used checks had them voided out and not bothering to return them.
I really miss those mail-away figures and things they used to do back in the day. I don't think they do that anymore. Years ago, I picked up a new in the box original mail-away Thundercats Mummra figure. I'm surprised so many people got mail-away figures and kept them sealed. I also picked up a sealed mail-away Earthworm Jim figure a while back.
As a kid I had the Mail away G.I.Joe hooded Cobra Commander and Sgt. Slaughter Transformers Omnibot Overdrive. I wish I had took advantage of more mail aways. But I also remember not ever receiving a dozen other mail away offer's! Like Fred Flintstone cereal offer's and a rhinestone Michael Jackson Glove is 🤬 that never arrived!
