I didn't bother to try looking up actual lore, but intuitively, this makes all the sense. Venom by itself is useless if your enemies are wearing armor with NBC shielding. It needs to come with some extremely spiky-pokey delivery device. Makes sense that something like a spine so razor-sharp it can pierce neosteel would be implied, even if the graphic depiction is dominated by toxic green goo.

As others have said, hydras shoot "grooved spines" in SC1. The green spit splattering out, I imagine, is like a natural lubricant they need to squeeze out the spines at a high speed.
They shot grooved spines back in the day. With very strong muscles that could send the spines at supersonic speeds and made them capable of penetrate neo-steel. I would expect some saliva coming out of the mouth after achieving such feat.
Completely agreed. Zerg's anti-air units are too niche, so when they inevitably end up outside their niche scenarios they become almost worthless. Zerg's pathetic anti-air is such a bad game design decision, no other race has such an obvious weakness. This game is what a normal match should look like, drops should be punished when they're out of position just like in every other matchup. It's not normal for air units to freely roam around bases and armies the way they do.
Hydras always shot spikes, but in SC1 they always spewed out quite a lot of acid when spitting them out. I believe there were some cinematics in the Terran campaign that have shown the spikes being shot out. Also the books about the XelNaga artifacts (that were written long before CS2) described them as shooting spikes.
After all these years I still occasionally watch a fun SC2 pro game. This game (as much hate as it has gotten) is truly a masterpiece. I hope a new version comes out in the next 5-7 years.

Hydras not only shot acid in SC1, their attack was also instant, not a projectile like in SC2 making them much more mocroable... like the marine. Hydralisk attack was the stupidest nerf they introduced in SC2.
Hydras shot green acid in SC1 because it was originally going to be a Warhammer game with the Terran being the Space Marines, the Zerg being the Tyranids, and the protross being... probably the Eldar. The assets were repurposed when Games Workshop decided not to go through with making the game. In warhammer there is a unit called a ravener which is a snakelike variant of the warrior that is often shown to have an armor piercing ranged attack of acidic toxins. Hell, some variants can even shoot maggots which crawl into armor and THEN explode into acid. It's probably why it was so wet and goopy in the first.
Hydralisks have been a meme unit for so much of SC2... only Zerg "standard" ground unit that shoots up but awful against air armies, literally lost to landed Vikings back in WoL with their original godawful stats before they got buffed over and over up to just being kinda bad, tons of weird restrictions on their use throughout their development life like needing to stay on creep, and takes like three to four counter units to make an entire core of them utterly ineffective for a quarter of the cost. Quite honestly @PiG, all the whining about hydras is probably mostly strategic by her, i feel. Hydras are bad vs. marines + medivacs, but they're pretty solid vs. most other T units if T is not set up perfectly. Tanks are really not that good vs. hydras because they aren't armoured and thus get no extra damage and they don't clump as badly as marines, so the AoE is not quite as significant for them. I never understood the whining about hydras, because their DPS is silly high, to the point they almost can compete in base trades (certainly vs. protoss).

I remove some comments, but don't have time to do it within a few hours of each upload, so it's a little intermittent
@@PiGstarcraft It did occur to me that when I see spam that was there for only 12 hours, because of time zones, that might as well be practically zero to you. Didn't mention it because my comment was already so circumlocutory logorrheic … but I understand that omnipresent moderation is impossible and I'm super happy about your quick reply and that you care about such issues and make an effort! Seriously, I couldn't ask for more. Cheers!
@@PiGstarcraft I saw some comment threads where some inappropriate stuff was obviously deleted. Thank you for staying on top of it, no one needs to see that BS
Scarlett thinks Hydras are bad? She needs to hang out with Meomaika :)
Who?

he* scarlett is a dude.
i mean she is using queens hydras and infestors together this isnt trolling except she had complained about hydras but other players arent thinking hydras are useless
I never understood the whining about hydras, because their DPS is silly high, to the point they almost can compete in base trades (certainly vs. protoss).
scarlett is best zerg pro to watch imo
Your crushing hard on this Scarlett...
sweetness! I love hydras even though they suck. LOL
Ultras is such a troll unit
Here is your comment. ;D
Great cast.
$500,000 USD?
I want a pet Hydralisk. Or a pet Lurker.
I miss ICYFAR 😢

PiG soldout to Stormgate RIP
PIG, I love your casting and coaching videos, been a fan for a while now, but I gotta say: I find this overlay to be like the hart of my Ex - might seem colorful and fun, but in the end it's just ugly o.o
Baneling zergs late game unit. 😂
Never use hydras vs Terran
Big fan of that hero zergling going to town on refineries. That's gotta be so annoying to see/hear the alerts.
Needle spines.
wtf is bde?
Big Dingo Energy.
@@tree_eats I just learnt this one from the kids and I'm already using it lol
And we love her for that

Playing Zerg take way more micro and focus.
Scarlett is the greatest SC2 player ever. Fight me.
Thank you so much for this! There were _so many_ matches during those four days; I barely managed to mostly watch the “important” ones on Saturday and Sunday, so unfortunately I didn't see much from Scarlett. In fact only a few days ago I finally got around to re-watching the final, because when I saw it live, I'd been already *so* tired, I missed a lot of detail. But now I'm *totally* ready to spend 20 minutes watching a cool game hand-picked and narrated by you!
what did you expect from him xD
Women just game better
That is a man.
lol bro called scarlett a 'HE' lmao
an honest mistake. unlike a lot others who do it out of spite
First my friendo.
Well, pretending that cats are dogs is already trolling in itself.
its always the zergs that socially crack
BDE :D :D :D :D :D
Yes, we all love Scarlett, but the commentator must be a real creep. He only talks about her and her strategies and how great she plays. Zero commentary about Sprit's play. Basically bad casting.
holy f zerospace looks like garbage^^
He...... please use your eyes and brain.
🙄 'promo sm'
I like Scarlett he is one of the best players
why everyone says hydras are trash? They are so fucking good dps, also wrecks all protoss gateways units
He explains why multiple times
They have the same stats as ~1 marine, but the cost of 3
Also -- like the old ultralisk -- their collision box is ass; they get stuck on each other, making them clump up & get even worse efficiency in fights
Is commentator trolling when he calls that guy a girl?
SC1 was a better game
Anyone else beat off 2 Scarlett’s?
This looks like a bronze match.
What are you talking about. They have more things in minute 5 than a bronze in late game min 15...???
That’s a shim
Dang these guys are both so good.
