On a poor 2-12 team in 1974, Lydell Mitchell caught 72 passes to lead the AFC and also broke Charley Taylor's 1964 mark for pass receptions for a running back. In 1975, Mitchell became the first Baltimore runner to gain 1,000 yards in a season, finishing with 1,153 yards. He passed Lenny Moore (1956-67) as the Colts alltime rusher during the team's Baltimore era. Yes,Mitchell deserve his golden jacket in Canton.
Team should have been great for years except for a preseason game against the Lions which resulted in a ton of injuries, most notably starting Bert Jones shoulder problems. They could have recovered but Bob Irsay was a terrible owner.

This is coming from a major Dallas Cowboys fan in those days. I think it's a doggone shame what happened to the Colts in 1978, I thought they really had a chance to do something. I can recall that summer when the Colts were going to play the Cowboys in the season opener I was really excited & I knew it was going to be a great game. But then they had all of those trades & injuries & the whole thing just came apart. i felt even worse for all you great Colts fans when you lost your team in 1984, I stil say the Colts belong in Baltimore & I will keep on calling them THE BALTIMORE COLTS!
If the drunkard Irsay had never traded Ted Hendricks or Mike Curtis with the front 4 they had in place in 77 they would have had the defense to beat Oakland and Pittsburgh. Joe Thomas went too far. Bert was great and Ted never had the defense to play conservative in the playoffs. Then the drunk got rid of those guys too. Its funny because the son of the drunk does the same stupid stuff in Indy like getting rid of Peyton Manning and driving Luck into early retirement.

Wow, those 4 catalyst gave us the Looney Tunes defensive line.
He also put most of the pieces in place in Miami before Shula arrived and took them to the next level.
Went to the Greatest OT thriller in 1976 against the Oakland Raiders in Baltimore, I thought by not having Roger Carr the Colts didn't have the long ball offense that they needed to win against John Madden and silver and black, I remember leaving the stadium that day thinking this will propably be the last time I would see my beloved Colts in the playoffs, I so truly miss Memorial Stadium and the college feel of the fans pride, I do love the Ravens but they will never be the Colts. Sad ? NFL ! stop moving football teams Oops the Raiders are Moving to Las Vegas LOL ! Still hating the Patriots ! They are in a weak division ? Bills, Jets, Dolphins ! No wonder it only takes 2 home wins to get to the Super Bowl. Realign the Divisions.
Yeah right, you were there, the game you're talking about was played on Christmas Eve, 1977.
I'm watching the hits in these games and 90% would be flagged today. Today's players wouldn't last a month back then. MiketheMime.com.
Ehrmann, Dutton, Cook, and Barnes...best front 4 in 1975
bigtex macgonigle
I am telling ya.
The Sack Pack.
Damn, Craig Morton ( #15 Giants) took a beating!
To bring a sixty old baltimore man to tears on his job in philly b more nard
Bert Jones had a cannon for an arm Elway before Elway
Lydell Mitchell belongs in Canton.
On a poor 2-12 team in 1974, Lydell Mitchell caught 72 passes to lead the AFC and also broke Charley Taylor's 1964 mark for pass receptions for a running back. In 1975, Mitchell became the first Baltimore runner to gain
1,000 yards in a season, finishing with 1,153 yards. He passed Lenny Moore (1956-67) as the Colts alltime rusher during the team's Baltimore
era. Yes,Mitchell deserve his golden jacket in Canton.
Team should have been great for years except for a preseason game against the Lions which resulted in a ton of injuries, most notably starting Bert Jones shoulder problems. They could have recovered but Bob Irsay was a terrible owner.
The defense was overrated on the back side.. They just could not compete in the playoffs. Bert was incredible. He was too old school. Love to see him in the modern NFL with legal offensive holding and a few more seconds to throw to protected recievers. Miss the astro dirt!
ain't the beer cold
The only pass completion the NY Giants had that day: 6:33
This is coming from a major Dallas Cowboys fan in those days.
Steelers kicked their ass. The defense was overrated and they never let Bert air it out. But it was a good team.
Peyton Manning never did half of the shit Burt Jones did. The second Manning saw the defense coming, he'd drop down like a prissy bitch.
They had a nice run for a while, but in the end my Steelers beat the crap out of them.
Yes. Two years in a row. Plus the plane crashing into Memorial Stadium after the 1976 loss.
The same footage 2:20 they used for this 1970 Colts video: ua-cam.com/video/HstudmVhjow/v-deo.html
Lydell Mitchell 1975-77 = Marshal Faulk 1999-191 to HOF. What an Fn shame and sham!
It's repeating we need to get it in gear instead of repeating and repeating and repeating we need to get this in gear and do something instead of keep saying the same thing over and over and over again
Belicheck 20:28
Before Reaganomics when ordinary Americans could go to the game. Hey NFL you need to look out for these players. Healthcare should be free for these guys. Playing on concrete covered by carpet. These guys were tough.
At about the 10:25 mark is all the evidence you need to know jack tatum was a dirty player
Joe Thomas the jerk who drove the 49ers into the ground in the late 70,s. Bert Jones could never get passed Terry Bradshaw or Ken Stabler. He was the Dan Fouts of the Colts. A royal flop and disappointment in the playoffs. Exciting during regular season.
The greedy inconsiderate Irsays should have left the Colts name and history in Baltimore.
Your Championship run didn’t last, the Colts came to Pittsburgh to play & the Steelers kicked they ass😂😂
And you played what position again.typical asshole steeler fan.I was at 2 games when we kicked the steelers ass,and it is cute to see the sad,sad 6 fingers. This is why they should show steeler games on the history channel
The Steelers kicked Everybody's asses.
