Ventricles of the Brain: Anatomy and Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) Circulation
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- Learn the ventricles of the brain along with their neuroanatomy, boundaries, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulation. Includes a fun mnemonic to remember the structures of the ventricular system and how CSF flows! Great for nursing, students, medical learners, USMLE, and more!
We discuss the anatomy and function of the ventricular system of the brain, along with the CSF circulation through the lateral ventricles, interventricular foramen (foramen of Monro), third ventricle, cerebral aqueduct (Sylvian), fourth ventricle, lateral apertures (foramina of Luschka), median aperture (foramen of Magendie), subarachnoid space, and dural venous sinuses.
Learn how cerebrospinal fluid is produced in the choroid plexus and flows through the ventricles of the brain, along with the structures that form the boundaries of the ventricles including the corpus callosum, thalamus, hypothalamus, brainstem, and cerebellum.

*What is a Putamen?*
The putamen is the outermost portion of the basal ganglia. These are a group of nuclei in the brain that are interconnected with the cerebral cortex, thalamus, and brainstem. Basal ganglia include the dorsal striatum, substantia nigra, nucleus accumbens, and the subthalamic nucleus. The putamen is involved in learning and motor control, including speech articulation, language functions, reward, cognitive functioning, and addiction
this very good like very very good it so good our anatomy lecturer played it for us to watch during one of our labs
wow.... sr you are excellent....so clear to the point explanations.
Glad you liked the explanations! 🙌
Thank so so much. it was just what I was looking for.
I am also looking for how CSF flows through through the Central canal and how it circulates through the brain stem. Cheers! Thanks so much
Perfect! 👌 Happy to hear it was what you were looking for! Many more videos to come! 🔥
Best video ever thanks for sharing now if only I could find one that would help me understand hydrocephalus again thank you

Thank you so much for this well illustrated video.
No problem, thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for this video- it’s definitely one of the best videos I’ve seen about CSF so far.
Question: is CSF flow unidirectional or bidirectional in the spinal cavity? Once it flows downward from the 4th ventricle does it eventually flow back upwards OR is it resorbed within the [spinal] cavity such that the cavity is constantly supplied with “fresh” CSF.
Great questions! The short answer is there is bidirectional flow of spinal CSF. While there are arachnoid granulations located along the dural sleeves of spinal nerve roots that allow for some CSF to drain from the spinal subarachnoid space into surrounding spinal veins, most CSF is reabsorbed intracranially from the subarachnoid space into the dural venous sinuses. CSF flow is primarily influenced by passive mechanisms such as pressure gradients, hydrostatic pressure, surrounding arterial pulsations, body position, etc., and the spinal CSF has the ability to work its way back up to the head. Hope this helps, and if there are still lingering questions ask away!
@@ezmed no that helps me out greatly. I appreciate you taking time to reply because I’ve tried researching this question specifically but wasn’t able to find information that spoke specifically to this aspect of CSF flow.
THANK YOU!
@@DNew You're welcome, and best of luck to you!
@@ezmed Hi!! I had another question and you were great with clarifying things for me last year!!! LOL
Composition wise - does CSF have any oil properties? I understand it’s a fluid and mostly water with various chemical substances, but is it in any way accurate to refer to it as being an oil or at the very least having some type of oil property?
Ur explanation is Excellent sir please Start Embryology classes
