    Just some baseline things here. When you’re an emperor, you should never be holding duchy titles unless you also hold the kingdom title that the duchy is part of de jeur. You have a king as a vassal, use him to both insulate yourself from troublesome vassals and to reduce the number of direct vassals you have, after all, it is easier to placate one king than 7 dukes. When I played as Emperor of Britannia, I had Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Brittany as vassal kings. All my personal demense was in England, which I held the title, and the duchies of East Anglia and Middlesex along with their counties were all mine. I had only a few dukes in England as direct vassals, for a total vassal count of 7 or so. Don’t complicate your reigns by holding random duchies in your vassal kingdoms, and sure as hell don’t try to hoard a bunch of kingdom titles that will give you a sea of dukes to manage who will be pissed you’re holding too many kingdoms.
    You should be taking for yourself the choicest counties (4 or 5 holdings) to upgrade for a nice personal levy and the income in one or at most, 2, duchies. Find these counties and get them as soon as possible in the game, then never let them go. If you lose some in successions, that is the first thing you rectify.
    You also need to be paying attention to what’s happening in your vassal king’s lands. A weak king or a regency can allow a duke to gobble up a lot of counties in the kingdom and usurp the king, and suddenly you’ve got a vassal king with a strong power base. Don’t wait for this to happen and you suddenly have to contend with a couple strong kingdoms in rebellion.

      does that work with horselords?

    • @TheSpicyLeg
      @TheSpicyLeg 4 роки тому +5

      andrew Depends what you mean. It works for the feudal types in the Horselords expansion, but playing as a tribal is quite a bit different in many ways.
      However, the goal is the same in that you’re trying to limit the strength of vassals. In tribals it is almost a requirement to have some clan rebel and you wipe them out. Remember that strength for clans is how much land they’ve got, unlike in Feudal where the Count of Paris is stronger than many of the smaller duchies.
      I always make sure I have the max amount of clans as vassals. It’s better to have 5 clans of medium power than 3 of high power.

      I have a question sir. If I have 4 or 5 holdings in my country. What type of buildings should I build on them? Also how many holdings should I give to a king if lets say hes holding ireland. Sorry for my english.

    • @TheSpicyLeg
      @TheSpicyLeg 4 роки тому +2

      Pragmatic Puppy In regards to holdings, it really depends on what you’re trying to accomplish, your government type, religion, etc. I’m going to assume you are playing as a Christian ruler, but realize Muslim, Pagan, Hindu, and so on have other restrictions - for example, Hindu holdings for other castes than the ruler belongs to will carry severe penalty.
      If you want to gather more land, then focusing more on castles for levy is going to be your better choice. If you’d rather have money, then settlements will be the way to go. Remember though, Christians get a 75% penalty for directly holding a holding other than castles. So settlements will need to be given to a mayor. Same with temples/churches, give to a priest is you have investiture. I always make sure to have one church holding in a county lest you start to have a lot of heretic issues, which will make the Pope or Patriarch unhappy, and that can get you excommunicated. You don’t want that. That will get you dogpiled by Catholic neighbors.
      In regards to giving “holdings” to vassal kings, you really shouldn’t be having holdings in vassal king’s territories. Sometimes you’ll get them as the top feudal Lord from someone dying, but give it away to random people. Unless it is really good, it’s rarely worth having it count against your demense. I am guessing what you really meant was titles in that kingdom. Holdings are castles, temples, settlements in a county. Titles are the feudal rulers of a county, duchy, kingdom, and empire. The basic rule of CK2 and CK3 is that power comes from owning land. You can give a vassal a kingdom title, but without land from which to draw levies, he will get usurped by his vassal. The same applies to you. A good king or emperor will make his vassals strong enough to keep his top title, but not so strong that he can usurp you. For Ireland, I would give a vassal king a small duchy and the counties within it to the king, which should be enough for him to keep the other dukes in Ireland in line. As I said originally, though, watch what takes place there. If you notice a duke is taking counties from other duchies in Ireland (and you aren’t able to prohibit vassal wars) then you may need to step in and revoke those counties to give to the de jure duke.

    I think that the reason why you can't press the claim of the King of Greece on the other half of Cyprus is because he technically doesn't have a claim yet, since he doesn't hold the title of Duke of Cyprus (or whatever name is used in the game).

    Hi I just discovered your videos, and I must say that they're awesome and I subscribed! :) I have a sort of off topic question: I stopped play CK2 a year ago because there were ALWAYS so many peasant revolts nearly regardless of what I did. They weren't hard to manage, but they were extremely tedious and made the game not fun. Were there any patches that made peasant revolts less annoying or is there some special way to stop peasant revolts?

    @rasplez9889 7 років тому +23

    let's be honest though, 100% of this game is pure micro-management. I played as Mercia, created the kingdom of England, and still can't keep all my vassals happy. they declare war, I take their titles and give it to someone else, then the others hate me and declare war. it's a circle. when you get a -100 opinion on at least one duke, you know you've messed up... I keep trying to take more power from the council while giving all of my ally's council positions, but there's always one that fucks you sideways... can someone tell me, is Imperial administration once I create the empire of Britannia worth it/ better than feudal? or should I focus on my vassals for now? it's also the year 850 or something so I'm not sure if im doing it right or not. conquering feudal England was a pretty good achievement, it's just keeping everyone happy that hurts... another question; is the more land I have (centralisation) better than vassals? or should I have as many vassals as possible? should I use dukes to govern dutchies, or should I give individual earl's county's so only one person has one chunk of land? I just need someone to tell me the best way to play feudal England...

    • @dentotte7032
      @dentotte7032 7 років тому +9

      RAsplez 98 conquering England is not the same as holding it , I advise you try to get some traits to get vassals to like you , external allies , limit the power of your vassals (ai. 2 to 3 counties for dukes and 1 to 2 for counts) , provide them with a clear hierarchy (dukes instead of all counts so you have a smaller circle to manage) , make sons into dukes so you can use their men in time of rebellion , but make sure you do 't make them to powerfull so they won't be a problem in the succession provide honorary titles to your vassals and so on.
      Also , if you're early in the game , it's wise to get some republics as vassals so you have acces to enough ships.
      Overall I would still say that the larger the realm , the more you need to organise it to keep everyone in line , in most cases , I wouldn't risk taking an entire kingdom at once but I'd take a few counties at a time and organise them carefully. The more your vassals like you , the more men and taxes they give you and the more you can centralise . The more they like you , the stronger the realm is.

      Nah, just breed like rabbits until you get an heir with the attractive trait, seductress and who is lustful, and sleep with every single one of your vassals until they're so deep inside you they can't help but think you're amazing. xD

    • @CasshernSinz1613

      There really isnt an easy answer (I know I'm 2yrs too late).
      My solution, in my Charlemagne game, was to found the Empire of Francia and to create Kingdoms and hand them to either my children or loyal vassals (like +50 loyal).
      This greatly reduces the number of vassals you have to manage while also giving you a massive amount of levies to raise from the Kingdoms you made. I'm talking upwards of 5ktroops for a decent sized kingdom.
      Now, doing that however means making sure those Kings serve on the council (because they otherwise get upset over it) and using your spymaster to repress their desire to join Factions.
      I should also point out that I think the faction system is broken so i have a mod that fixes the faction system. It makes it so that it they have +30ish opinion they will leave or never join a faction against you unless they have traits like deceit or high intrigue.
      I have had to deal with some pretty lare revolts and I must constantly send gifts and even try and arrest some monarchies if the opportunity comes up. So, factions arent eliminated for me but they're far more realistic (in my opinion) because you otherwise need almost +100opinion to keep vassals out of factions.
      There were 2 times I had to give into demands for more council power, though, so by no means are factions harmless (they had over 15k troops backing them).
      But the biggest help for me was the spymaster scheming and sending out gifts. Later on you need to invest in building spikes in your capital to open up the intimidation option with grants +20op.
      There's just so many options to control vassals and keep them in line. It's hard to give a clear answer to what works best when this game is basically a big bag of Lego pieces.

    • @fumanchu7
      @fumanchu7 4 роки тому +2

      Real late reply: I try to keep everything neat and organized in my realm. Every vassal gets one county. The vassal I like best gets the duke title and all the other counts below them. When I get to emperor, the single duke with the best duchy gets the king title (usually a relative). I try to keep two duchies and their associated counties in my primary kingdom for myself, and one extra duchy that goes to my heir.
      So for the Empire of England, I keep Essex and east Angelia for myself, and Wessex for my heir (I turn Kent into a merchant republic). All the other English dukes fall under me, with a king of Wales, Ireland, and Scotland (all three relatives).
      Every single vassal has only one county, and their vassals have one county. Over time they may acquire a second through revolts and revoking, and for the most part I allow it as long as they only acquire land in their de jure duchy, but keep an eye out in case I need to do some revoking to restore the old balance.
      To get to that point, I usually do a wave of revokes right before the current rules dies so that the opinion hit goes away when the new ruler takes the throne. I find using this method that everyone stays relatively happy in their lane, while being individually weak enough that rebellions stay under control and manageable when they do happen.

    It's a must to make someone a king within your empire. That king can either be an unlanded person with a son that likes you and have good trait's or the dejure ruler of that kingdom just like in this video.
    You wont have to receive the bloody opinion of the many duke's.
    The duke's wont target you but the king.
    Rather than making 10 people happy you just have to make 1 person happy.

      In my current gameplay i played as the teledo sheikh than i sturggle my way to become an emir. Than i expand my realm taking on other duke's. Than i make a faction that started a war against my king(umayyad sultanate). Than i was free, and made myself king. Than i started attacking the Christian's of asturias and aragon. Made two invansion against aquintain and than west francia which than i won both and all those lands become my vassal. Than i make myself an absyah(emperor). Than i started to qonquer my former king territory one by one through conquest. Than i manage to get more than 51% of his holding so i usurp his title of sultan andalasia.. Than i wage a de jure war on him(sultan umayyad) and i won. Than i made a person into the king of aquintain. Than a couple of small kingdoms i crown them to be king under my rule. I hold onto TWO dutchies titles for myself that i use to make many castle's to strengthen my own army. Right now i have 14k of my own army and 20k of vassal army with 7k of retinues. I plan to invade further into europe since i spent 3hours managing my vassals. Giving there rightful land. Putting someone a duke to control those pesky counts/syeikh.. But the things that i regret is that i disallowed war between my vassals which in my sense kinda makes people piss which resulted on many faction that want's independence. I have made many attempts and ways to curl the factions including prison, let them riot and finish them so i can strip there title, i put my marshal on there province, many more. I manage to hold on now but i really need to change that law. Manage my realm stability in terms of religion. Because there's a mix of christian and Muslim. I need to spread islam to every single christian folks there is which takes tremendous years. I bribe the emir to enter islam and use my diplomat to strengthen my relationship with the Christian's duke..
