As a larger lady, I loved Mrs Fish and her outfits, not all Victorian women were tiny, although far more than today! She is a funny character and wore interesting gowns .

I had a person tell me today that they were disappointed and offended by the Fifth Element costumes. I just adore them, so I decided to find a video on UA-cam about this topic, and I quickly found you. Your video was incredibly delicious and informative. I was a little scared because it came out so long ago and channels with a small number of subscribers often turn out to be dead after such a long time. But I'm so glad you're still making videos and I've no doubt I'll be coming back to your videos for the next few days. Actually, I'm leaving this comment on the new video so you'll definitely notice it, because even your older videos are impressive, but the new stuff is just as good. It's a bell from me🥰🔔

Excuse me for derailing the topic of these comments and going on about The Fifth Element, but it was a movie of my childhood, and I think it was the first movie that I watched completely in English (I'm from Ukraine) and understood everything, simply because I absorbed this movie from 6 years. But when I was 12 years old, I found out who made the suits, I didn't know how important the name Jean-Paul Gaultier was, but I knew it was important. So, I tried to tell someone at school about these incredible costumes, no one understood what I was talking about, those who saw them said there was no way Mangalores were costumes and not CGI, so for a very long time, I thought so too . One of the strangest gaslighting situations I've ever been in.
P.S. Yes, the person I mentioned clearly does not know what they are talking about. Even if we pretend that the film exists in a bubble and hasn't influenced the fashion of our world, it has enough examples of clothes that break stereotypes in addition to being completely iconic. The sexualization in this film makes sense and is tasteful. Of course, flight attendants and waitresses are dressed sexy, and soldiers, gangsters, priests, doctors... are dressed in layers of clothes. But Lilu doesn't run on stilettos, or even worse, on platforms, and can actually move and live in clothes that look like they're showing too much, but really aren't. Even the flight attendants deserve comfortable heels in this movie, which deserves extra points in my book.

I loved Marion in yellow, especially the acid yellow plus that very vogue cover up. I think the Neon was emblematic of her burgeoning sexiness. Her character went through background pastel to central box seat neon!

I think Peggy I'm the most consistently happy with in designs and character, if we're honest. All the others seem to be LOVE or GAG for their looks . I cannot say Galdys had a lot of winners for me, tbh. Especially as you said when the tulle and floof/puffs come in. So happy to hear I'm not the only one who feels Marian is flat in more ways than one. Which is a shame as I wished I adored her. Loved Enid's looks you chose as well. Oh my gosh you are SO right about the My Fair Lady comparison! I adore all your social posts with inspiration comparisons for this.

I just finished the season and it broke my heart. I completely agree on Marie’s yellow dresses! It is just too much. I was obsessed with Turner’s updated wardrobe although I loved the household attire of the Russell’s too! I would love to wear a black dress like that as least as long as I could stand to breathe in it. 😂 Fantastic video as always!!

Many viewers find Marion to be boring, but she is a representation of a kind and good person, she is sweet. And we all know on TV only the villains and the the people with many facets are the most interesting. Bertha is not a good person in general, but it's the most interesting character, also Agnes appears harsh but is actually sweet underneath, a snob as described by Christine Baranski. Personally, i like Marion.

Thanks for the review. I love the costume design on this show. The thing however, that takes me out of it is the chest wrinkles on many of the costumes ESPECIALLY Marion’s. This is the time right before the pigeon chested Edwardian days. There was padding in the over bust areas of dresses to combat wrinkles there, and the line of the corset was diminished with lace ruffles along the top. I find my eyes drawn to the literal fold line at the top of the corset in almost all of Marion’s costumes that emphasizes the anachronistic Twiggy like flat chest of the character which, considering Agnes pays for her dresses, would have been addressed by the dressmaker. I’m glad we have come a long way in the war against corsets (that Gladys scene notwithstanding) but we still have a ways to go in understanding the mindset of historical time and a respect for the knowledge of the audience. We all don’t get our exposure to historic underpinnings from Fredricks of Hollywood.

I think they used modern techniques when creating the costumes, so as you said, there are going to be lots of dents and wrinkles. Also, I mentioned this in my S1 review, none of the women wore corset covers. What are you gonna do?
@@Costume_CO I think Fredricks went bankrupt and got bought out or something 🤪. I’m also bothered by costume designers buying into the “they didn’t show their ankles-too sexy” trope conspiracy. When I see servants walking on the street in floor length dresses. Have you seen the horses? Have you never heard of boots and stockings? Love your videos!!
Could you please do a breakdown of the “downstairs” costumes?
Every gown is a work of art and the costumes are one of the main reasons I watch the series. And although the structure and silhouettes seem authentic to the time period, the use of contrasting color and large almost abstract prints do not seem authentic to me. I don’t recall seeing photographs or paintings from that period that seem similar. That being said, I LOVE them all.

Hi angel, I was a little scared to review the ROP. The fandom is a bit scary and we had to ban some during that livestream. BUT, I should do a review of the Wheel of Time...I just started following the costume designer on Instagram.

Some of the costumes just fall short for me and I think they should have gone with the original inspiration of ivory and black for Bertha's opera dress instead of the mint green. Gladys always looks ghastly to me, but I don't care for the actress, so that doesn't help matters. I have to agree with your dislike of the overuse of yellow on Marion -- it doesn't compliment the actress at all, so I don't know why they insist on putting her in it so often. I did not like Peggy's butterfly dress at all and felt it looked too modern Disney princess for the time period -- otherwise, she has a fantastic wardrobe in the show.

They have too many gowns. I mean I watch it for the gowns, but they seem less special when there's a new one in every scene.
Hi Shylock, yes, I agree with you. It would certainly be better for the viewer so that we can spend some more time with the dresses. I only captured a fraction of what was in the show.
