She’s adorable! I love that you painted on your tattoos and your scar, and painting the glasses 😍 I definitely understand your misgivings in regards to the body type etc, but it is like you said- only an avatar of yourself 😄. With details that is YOU! I most certainly don’t expect anyone to look like their mini me, and nobody does. Not even Dollightful!
Thank you! 💖 Yeah, one of the things I had to keep reminding myself of was that a lot of people use Monstet High dolls as their mini me doll, and no one has those proportions! (And FYI, I'm non-binary and my pronouns are they/them, so my mini me's would be the same. 😉)
OOF i felt the ending statement so much :c idk if you felt this, too, but my fear in making representations of myself that are ~smaller~ than i really am is the worry that others will perceive it as me being in denial about my size? like "oh does she really think she's as small as that? awkward." but the truth is, there isn't good fat rep anywhere, but especially in dolls, and you deserve - we all do - to explore our identity and creativity without judgment or fear. i think this steph, different as they may be from the real steph, is just as beautiful and valid as their creator. and thank you for sharing them with us 💖
Thank you! 💖 And yeah. It hit me so much harder than I realised. But I had to remind myself that a lot of people use Monster High for their mini me dolls, and like, no one has those proportions. 😅
Wow! You almost made me cry at the end! Boy can I identify. I used to run from the camera for over 40 years. Then one day last year my husband and I were talking about starting a UA-cam channel. I weirdly said ok. For some reason I decided that I didn't care I just wanted to have fun. Not that I am completely comfortable, but it gets better each time 😍 I hope that this will be a good start to you feeling more comfortable with showing yourself on camera. No one sees us the way we see ourselves. You are beautiful Steph because you are unique and wonderfully Steph!
Thank you! 💖 Maybe at some point I'll feel comfortable doing a face reveal and all that. It definitely helps seeing other people who are my size making videos.
this reminds me of how much i want to redo my mini me lol also mine literally doesnt look like me either except for the hair....and lipstick. i think your mini you turned out adorable though! i also felt a little bit weird making my mini me when i first made it because of body issues. like...i just felt like i was lying when choosing an ever after high body to represent my body type. anyway, theyre beautiful, im sure youre beautiful, and i also want those pants haha
Hi love your video it's the first time I've seen you. I'm a 68yr old lady who is curvy. We are who we are and if other people don't like it it's their problem. Guess what I don't like my arms either. Stay strong. Keep your head up and keep on making your videos. Kath UK.
Thank you. For sharing your art, for sharing yourself, and for sharing the community. Someday, we'll have better plus sized dolls for bases, I know we will.
Hey Steph!! I am a new subscriber to your channel, found you via your comment to Toya's video today. Loved your tips, and your video of the making of your mini me. The comments you made at the end of your video went straight to my heart. I understood what you were saying 1000%. I wish you nothing but happiness and understanding, and joy, in your day to day, and the future. Be who you are and be PROUD! Don't let ANYONE, take away you right to be happy! 💕 p.s. your embroidery was terrific!
Your mini-me is an absolute treat! I did not know that's how the feet came out on these two dolls, and gosh does it make me want to rewatch Frey's video for those freckles, that's a nice technique. Really love how you handled that wig too, I'll have to keep your tips in mind the next time I go to make one! Also, oh my gosh your glasses are so cute?! What a fun style! I totally get you on the discomfort of making a doll like this. I made a mini-me over the pandemic (coincidentally also using this barbie's body, since I too am a plus-sized person), and she's been sitting in a box for a while because I don't like her. We've got a lot of the same concerns, I also want a persona doll that has clothing options and feels true to me, and as someone who's still learning to love herself, it's a struggle. I've actually been wanting to remake my persona using a different doll, Jacy Masters from the Wild Hearts Crew (she fits a good amount of my curvy Barbie clothes). Dunno if I could manage it, since I'm really pale and she's a lot tanner, and I've had bad luck with repainting the entire body, but it would be worth it, she's the first doll that I've looked at and said "she feels like me," and that's powerful. I haven't had that happen before. Slight tangent but still relevant: at the end of last year I got into cosplaying, and not too long after, I was invited to play a tabletop game with some friends. We're doing it on the Monster of the Week system, and it's an exploration of the Bendy and the Ink Machine universe with some added fantasy elements. I opted to play as Susie Campbell, a voice actress who's very passionate about her role as Alice Angel, and partway through I decided to start dressing up like my concept art of her for our game night. Cosplaying, in general, has helped me feel better about my body (like who knew one person could become so many different people? So cool!), but interpreting a character I love as a plus-sized lady has done wonders for me. Susie doesn't have a canon design, but what I've created works for both of us, and exploring 30s and 40s fashion has been a fun exercise, highly recommend playing with something like that. I already loved Susie, and in some ways, I think taking the time to find some of myself in her has helped me love myself a little more. It's helped me realize that I am smart, beautiful, and a valuable part of my friend groups, no matter what I look like. I want you to know that you're dazzling and wonderful too. I don't say it nearly enough, but you make some really beautiful work, your sense of humor is such a treat, and it's always nice to hear your voice. Rock on Steph, you are amazing and we're so fortunate to have you here in the doll community! Keep kicking butt out there!
Thank you so much! 💖💖💖 I also thought about using Jacy, but her build is still pretty different to mine and I also didn't want to have to repaint the whole body, especially since it would be getting so much use, so I get the struggle. I'm really hoping Plus Dolls (formerly Curvy Girl Dolls) get into production at some point. And that's awesome that you've gained confidence/self love through cosplay and trpgs!
My first doll is going to be a ‘me’ avatar. Already conflicted! An avatar is a stylized version of yourself. I can’t really make a plastic Barbie doll resemble a flabby senior person! Also, want to ease myself into body mods. There will definitely be some wrinkled old people down the line. Thank you for showing me that Mattel does know how to make realistic feet, even though all Barbie’s seem to be cinderellas, regardless of their body type - and that Barbie parts can be interchangeable, and I can remove part of the neck peg. Learned lots here!
Thank you! 💖💖💖 I'm glad you were able to learn a few things from my video.😊 And yeah, it's sort of a difficult process to make a mini you when there are such limited body types available. But viewing it as more of an avatar rather than a realistic depiction helped; sort of like making a Nintendo mii or using some sort of app with limited options. As long as you get the essence of yourself, I think that's the most important part.
@@stephoodoll i chose the doll with the closest skin tone. I am going to figure out how much to mod the face. No doll is going to come ready made with my significant nose.

I love any creatable world customs or hybrids I'm just happy to see more people in the doll community using them and of course any type of video related to doll pattern making is great 😄 I love the details you added on their clothes I so need to get those mini doll glasses btw, also the feet swapping from the CW to the MTM barbie is *genius* the CW look more realistic and even have way better detail.
Thank you! 💖 I really like Creatable World too. The quality of the clothing is so good! I'm pretty sure the glasses came with the ginger doll from the first wave, btw.
Your Mini-Me came out so cute!!! :3 I have been holding off on making my own Mini-Me for some of the reasons you stated at the end. Thank you so much! 💖💖 I almost used an EAH head, but I found out I liked the proportions of the Creatable World one more. And I initially had the same thought about Jacy, but didn't want to lighten her skin either. And even she's not the right body type for me anyway. 😅 Ah well. I will most likely compensate with baggies clothes for now.
I'm currently working on making a mini me doll right now (doll modding videos make great viewing material while modding dolls!) Watching your video made me really realize the design choices I'll have to make when adding details to my own doll. I knew I wanted to add my tattoo, but it's a harder hurdle to tackle when it comes to my various scars. Also, why can I not find a female doll with a chin dimple??? Women have cleft chins??? Anyhoot! Thank you for sharing your own experience and thoughts on your project!
You're welcome! I'm glad it gave you some food for thought. You might be able to carve or sand a groove into the vinyl for your chin; it's possible but might be a bit tricky. Good luck! 💖
Thank you so much! 💖 And yeah, the struggle is real. I want to start sewing some of my own clothes when I have time, but even then fabric is expensive. 🙃
There's a Wild Heart plus size doll that I love. Her arms are beautiful and round, and she made of soft curves and round face with a little double chin. I love her and she looks like my body the most. I'd say shes a size 18-22, tho her tummy is small, but I think thats so she can move at the waist. I've used the Hagrid doll from the Harry Potter line to make my brother, you just have to swipe out the bearded face for a Ken face. It took forever to find actual plus sized dolls. Oh, and there's an old Rosie O'donald doll out there that has a really pretty body, and there's one of that female character from the Drew Carey show, her face sculpt and body are really well done with attention to our curves being soft and round and pretty.
She’s adorable! I love that you painted on your tattoos and your scar, and painting the glasses 😍

I worry so much about making a mini me doll and being plus size, thank you for being candid about that.
💖 It wouldn't have felt right if I didn't address it.
I understand your body issues. Finding plus size clothes that look and feel good is a problem for me too. Your mini me is adorable. 🥰🥰🥰
OK, I know I'm biased, but this is an excellent doll. Love you!
Thanks! 💖 Love you too. 😉
Loved this episode so muçh. It spoke to me on so many levels
Thank you! 💖 Glad you enjoyed it.
