At the start of Ult when I was getting all my characters into Elite I had such a hard time grasping Snake. If my opponent knew how to deal with dash attack I was hopeless. Then I saw a Snake player pull grenade, walk a little bit, and shield to place it on the ground and I thought “oh that looks interesting, I’ll try that.” Once I started experimenting by myself it clicked and I got a lot better. Down tilt was my favorite move for a while
Playing against Snake really highlights the Platform aspect of a platform fighter. You basically have to navigate through a bunch of dynamic obstacles just to get to the fight.
Snake is so popular because he's like game and watch or pacman, like Snake is ALWAYS playing Snake. He doesn't have to change his playstyle at all no matter who he's playing against
Snake is weird because conceptually he is more broken than he is practically, and yet practically he has an infinite skill ceiling and is one of the most broken characters in the game
5:05 Glad to hear I'm not the only one who finds it fun to fight Snake. I used to hate fighting him until something clicked in me and said to back off and play like he's a Dark Souls boss lmao. Now he's probably my best matchup personally. It really is just like fighting a puzzle, he's the only character that gives me that feeling and I'm always really excited to play one, especially a good one.
I love that Vars III has been getting is views reviewed by actual pro players. WaDi just reviewed his Mewtwo video and I actually found it really interesting since I watch most of Vars' videos.
I’m a snake main and the thing I like most about him is the variety of options and setups. Grenades and c4 really can make for sick reads and clips. Plus fair lol
Exactly. Snake is just cool. I played the Metal Gear saga. Being able to bring the soldier to blow sh... is so satisfying. He is not a super something character. He is a man with guns and granades against monsters... That's even more satisfying than knocking out the soldiers of the saga.
My favourite m/u is against snake. You literally have a puzzle to work out in real time. But unlike when I play against other people. This character has me constantly realizing it's a puzzle. I might not get it every time. But I enjoy playing against him the most
Snake is fun as hell to fight, and I say that as a Sora main who gets messed up by hard zoning. You cannot fight Snake like any other character, at all. Its really cheesy and dumb to say, but it feels like chess. His tools can also be your tools, and it all depends on how you keep aware of everything him and your character are capable of. There's so many little tricks and small optimizations that can only really be applied to fighting Snake. It's neat. You have to play careful, but the reward you you feel for outplaying Snake's shinnanigans is unmatched.
If you have played a metal Gear game, his playstyle is even more brilliant as a translation of the kind of out of the box ( pun intended) lateral thinking that the games encourage.
Snake is good, he's unique so he makes u feel like u have hard character but can also be played simply/with just fundies, he makes your opponent feel stupid, AND he's cool.
1:20 Lemmon from Canada, omega from Georgia, Tsubotsubo and Zackray from Japan, eMass from Saudi Arabia, there’s a good amount high level of Joker players, just at the top top, he’s just uncommon
The only character that I wish Sakurai changed and gave him actual weapons from his games instead of just making it seem like Snake is misrepresented as a demolitionist, which he isn't.
I mean he DOES have the Nikita, (MG1, MG2, MGS1, MGS2) the RPG-7, (MGS3, MGS4, MGSPW, MGSV), the C4/C3 (every game), grenades (every game), and most importantly CQC.
Fun fact: Snakes grenades aren't proximity detonated meaning that you can just ignore the projectile up until it explodes. If you're a speedy character, while snake is in the throwing animation, just run up and grab
@@The0-2DemonKing fun fact if you lose three stocks you lose the match. Any other basic things we should tell the people however many years into the game?
In my opinion I think that's one of Smash's strong points; there's just a lot of casual-friendly characters to pick up for people who aren't trying to be pro's. Like, I enjoy playing online occasionally but I'm not going to go buy a GC controller or attend locals or anything. Characters like Snake and 3D and Bowser fit that bill pretty well, in that you can be competitive and get into some of the "deeper" aspects of the game without getting stomped on because you haven't put in 5,000 hours.
If you don’t know what you’re doing with snake you’re going to get stomped. He’s nowhere near “casual friendly” literally every character in this game has some easy grab combo. Snake doesn’t have stuff like that.
snake is my favorite character to fight, I'd say I'm OK at the matchup, but winning is just satisfying. You're not going to just sweep him, but you still have to beat em
8:00 I really dont think so. I think snake has in comparison to most of the chars a very straight forward gameplan/flowchart. Most of the time its just that you do the usual stuff and the enemy has to crack your wall and only when that happens you have to think character dependently.
Mentioning Alandiss, but not MVD. LOL, guy can't catch a break! Also yeah, Snake is fucking cool. Just wish there was an MGS1 outfit you could chose with the vest and collar.
@@ImKevinFTW All his alts are pretty lazy. Just MGS3 camo suits (which isn't even Solid Snake, but Big Boss). Would love to have had MGS1 vest and collar (one modern render and one ps1 graphic), MGS2 sneaking suit, one or two MGS3 camo suits, Old Snake from MGS4, and the suit from MGSV. Maybe even a MGS2 Raiden alt, if he's not going to be in the game anyway.
I usually flip flop between hating and loving Snake. Grenades and reads and having options wherever in neutral while also making strong use of B reverses and feeling like you earned your kills are definitely fun. Then there's the guaranteed utilt at 160% from dthrow, utilt hitting behind sometimes, Nikita invalidating some recoveries because you pressed shield in the middle of their recovery/using it to occupy space against low tier recoveries, fsmash being a sorta safe 2frame option that can delete people, and him having a smaller hurtbox on his own grenades let alone the hitbox of the explosives seemingly getting bigger on shield. I also remember Pound 2019 Grand Finals ending with an Olimar dying at like 40% after being fthrown, lazily recovering to ledge and eating an onstage fair (even though it was pre nerfed usmash Olimar). I just don't know how to feel about killing someone in 3 moves with a character like Snake, personally.
I think fighting Snake is fun. The issue a lot of people have with fighting Snake is that they try too hard to play Smash when they should be playing Snake.
6:33 so basically people like playing autopilot characters cuz being a critical thinker is too hard these days for most people although smash is a children’s game with a varied degree of complexity to it weirdly enough.
Snake feels like a natural character for competitive players to have in their back pocket for many of the reasons listed in the video. Even for those who choose not to main snake, his unconventional play style combined with relatively easy to learn moves and strategies combine for what I would think is a great change of pace option later in sets.
I can say I don't like fighting Snake at all. Fighting Snake is akin to those old action game boss fights. You have to outlast the sequence, you get a chance to do damage, then the boss inevitably gets away to start their cycle. The fight gets tedious, you just want it to end, but you gotta focus for max damage. Certainly doesn't help that Snake can switch gears and start swinging. Still, I can get why people like him, I just wish he didn't fight as well up close as he can from afar.
@@dsmproject95 Have you never played any MGS games? Sure he doesnt fly around on a Cypher but it’s still a reference to one game of the series. There’s nothing in the whole series that would be considered some kind of tether grab for Snake.
@@ImKevinFTW yes I have (my favorite is snake eater). My point was to not just nerf down a character. Up tilt and dash attack are arguably a big reason why he's so good. So many good characters lost representation because of overboard nerfing.
@@dsmproject95 Ok but that wasn’t the point i was addressing tho i think Snake is perfectly fine the way he is.
