As you were giving win 9508 I started tearing up thanks to knowing Going Merry was about to call to her Nakama. Damn you Oda making me cry over the death of a ship.
Now your safe to watch S1 of the LA. They mention Garp as the Grandpa in like episode 2 or 3 of the LA. Beyond that it only covers through Nami home town arc with Arlong... so be it a wins vid or just to chill its safe to see S1 now. But the way Garp screams old man fluffy with his energy is the best. Easily my fave Marine character and he has one of the most complex relationships out there. Think about it. If Luffy is a grandson and Ace is a brother than not only Luffy but Ace is a Grandchild; Which Means White Beard and Luffy are the pirate crews his grand kids are connected to and his Son is the leader of the rebels vs the WG... That is why I am dying to learn who Dragons mom is/was and who Luffy's mom is/was. Because like Garp is an odd ball so its hard to tell if he'd ever willing return home. So if wife is good she could just be hanging there. Luffy's Mom may yet live but have her circumstances for why she is distant. I just want to know if the family can actually get stranger or not? I mean at this point I wonder if Roger is blood related to Garp.
The funeral of the Merry is my favorite scene and panel of the whole series. It's filled with so much raw emotion that I cry every single time. It's not the goodbye of just a ship, but the goodbye of a precious Nakama that gave her all until the very end. I love and miss you, Merry. Proud member of the "Oda Made Me Cry Over a Boat" club.
That wasn't filler. the Koby and Helmeppo story was a cover story. Unfortunately they stopped animating cover stories, so if other characters come back they have to explain on the spot what they've been up to.
every true fan gets tears from the Merry funeral. Even random people seeing that scene get emotional. Merry the true hero of this arc, The Sunny Will carry you to the end.
in the manga, oda uses chapter covers to tell extra storys, the filler episode(s) with coby and helmeppo was told with the covers, same goes for how buggy got back his crew till he returned to logue town, unfortantly they stoped turning cover storys into filler episodes, because its great additinal content, while most other filler suck
28:20 While it wasn't revealed during the cover story adaptation, it was implied that he and Luffy had a connection when he overheard Coby talking about how great of a guy Luffy was.
I love the moment at 26:18 just because of how the editing makes it feel almost as though Franky is scolding our boi here for winning a scene in the middle of his story. lol Like, "listen to me first before you praise me!"
"Is there anything he can't do?" **Zoro immediately goes to fight the Rust Human** That, that is something he can't handle Man, everytime I see the Merry's Farewell scene, I can't help but tear up Doesn't matter if it is in the anime or manga You wouldn't know about the grandpa thing earlier than this, unless you watched the live action where they moved some of Garp's stuff around Also, the training Garp had for Koby and Helmeppo wasn't a filler arc, it was a cover story shown over in the front page of multiple chapters Same thing as Buggy's adventure where he was tiny without the main section of his body Unfortunately most of the other cover stories didn't make it into the anime
The Merry Funeral has me in tears, every time... But also the one of Usopp just screaming at Luffy to get up, it is such an iconic moment. Also, welcome to the Clubs of "Crying over a Boat" and "Water 7 Arc is absolute peak writing" :3 Damn, it has been so long, but there aren't many Arcs that literally hit me this hard from beginning to the end, like this. One Piece has no bad Arcs, in my opinion, but Water 7 Arc is just... It's such a different level, somehow :3
@28:09 No it wasn’t even during the ‘cover story’ episode, but when I saw this I was just as shocked for knowing how crazy Luffy’s family lineage is IMO
Fun fact: the reason that luffy grandpa has a dog hat is because originally in the one piece pilot chapter instead of shanks his grandfather gives him his strawhat and oda didn't people that read the piolt to know the he's luffy grandpa but also oda didn't want to redesign him so he just put a cool hat on him
The most epic anime screaming ever from Mayumi Tanaka with that Jet Gatling and then the absolute tear fest that is the Merry's funeral. No one survives the rollercoaster of emotions intact. Oda really capped of the saga with lots of big moments that we will always remember fondly.
I love Lucci as a villain, he’s just the perfect piece of shit, he’s a monster, but not so much that he’d rough up Robin for no reason, he has some sense of pride to him where he can be reasoned with, and under it all he cares about his allies just a little, but the best part of him will always be Hattori lol. I really wanna know what’s up with that bird.
merry's funeral... Man, just man. It never gets any easier, but for all the waterworks it could sail up to heaven on spilling from my eyes, i can only smile at the beauty of it all. The MOMENT they jump trustingly into the sea, the faucet has started.
Aaaah some more of my fave moments, a smart Sanji move, the Merry saving them, the Merry getting buried (cried buckets ofc), Franky going to build them a ship, and just the absolute insanity that is Luffy's family tree lmaoooo Loved the video as always, can't wait for the big 50th ep!!!
5:43 Jet pistol is not a new move. In the manga, all gear 2 attacks are too fast to be seen, only leaving a smoke trail and an explosion of steam from where they started. This is just the anime paying homage to how it looks in the manga.
The second their escape ship blew up there were tears in my eyes cuz i knew what was coming. That noise, always puts tears in my eyes. The moment our friend comes to get us, i always cry. That moment is just so beautiful.
When you realize Smoker knew 100% who Dragon was in Loguetown and didn't say anythig about it Man realized how far out his pay grade that was and just went "Nah, I'm just gonna focus on pirates"
0:23 To this day this is one of my favourite shots in the whole anime. I appreciate good art/framing, but I won’t say that it’s something that I care enough about to worry while I’m watching. But this shot was so good that I had to go back and rewatch it again
I had noted in a txt to remind here of win 4527 in part 24 "But in adition, even though it's not real, i didn't like the ship getting destroyed, it's like one of the crew, don't do me like that!" Merry's funeral is the part were all of us cryed, SO well written...
The Merry stuff is heartbreaking but it mustn’t be understated how great Luffy beating Lucci was Like this is the best Luffy win in my books, literally running on fumes and giving the last ounce of strength to wail on him until he can move no more, it took EVERYTHING and is the pure embodiment of his will
Two things, firstly, Im go glad you made it through water 7 and loved it. I know it my, and many others favorite arcs and I still cannot believe Oda made me burst into tears for ship. Secondly... The Dragon glaze is real!!! MY FELLOW AGENDA PIECERS!!!
Having reached this far, you have simultaneously peaked in One Piece, and truly started on the One Piece that became a worldwide phenomenon. The peak is because Water 7 and Enies Lobby are commonly felt to be two of Oda's most perfect story arcs, which the anime also does decent justice to. Whether it is the lore, the side characters, or the twists and turns.. they are all equally shocking and charming. There is simply nothing to dislike about these arcs. (OK, maybe Wanze if you're not into nostril noodles, but I digress...) The reason I call this the 'real' One Piece is because it starts a new era of One Piece: the era where you finally understand the scale of Oda's writing. It isn't just about leaving the East Blue tutorial area, or about having happy merry adventures that can stand on their own merits a la Drum Island and Skypiea. No: the world of One Piece is huge and it lives and it breathes, and Oda's been slowly dripfeeding you characters and knowledge just to credibly set up the endgame that literally happens a thousand chapters into the series. Finally you understand that pirates can declare war on the World Government. That the World Government isn't omnipotent. That it has to work together with pirates (known as the Seven Warlords) in order to continue existing under the threat of just four pirate crews that roam the seas elsewhere and manage to scary the World Government enough as to treat them as if they're sentient nukes capable of starting the One Piece equivalent of a Third World War. The fact an entire resistance exists against the perceived tyranny of the World Government, trying to topple its rule. All of this completely shifts the entire dynamic of the series into one where the Marines and World Government aren't always going to be foes our pirates have to run from. Of course, our little wee pirates aren't anywhere near the level of being able to play on those levels. But with this, you finally have a clear idea of the scale of the quest involved in 'finding the One Piece'. It only took a little over 300 episodes to finally understand in slightly more detail what it will take to accomplish Luffy's dream. I can only conclude this comment as follows. Fear the next lore drop. The more you know, the less you wish you knew. ;-)
Did you ever have a moment when you saw something you've seen many times before but had to Google it to see what it was? Cien Fleur is a technique in One Piece that means "Hundred Flower" and involves the character Nico Robin sprouting 100 arms
Saying "goodbye" to the merry is one of the saddest moments in the series... but without it we don't get to say "hello" to the next ship. And the whole Garp reveal was something that got ruined for me because I watched the live action first. Oh well.
If you think learning this Monkey family lore drop was insane, you haven't seen nothing yet. Garp has two epithets the Fist and the Hero and is without a doubt one of the strongest Marines in the Navy. The man in his prime was monster. Hell he still is even as an old man.
if you're starting to worry about the pacing lately it's because around this time in the anime they started to adapt one or less chapters per episode :/
It's so hilarious, Luffy and Chopper can't recognize Usopp with the mask despite him wearing the excite same clothes with the exact same gear. 🤣 . . . RIP Merry😭
It's not a spoiler to say that the Adam's tree isn't the one from Ohara as that was canonically called "The Tree of Knowledge" reconfirmingit to be that. However, its actual location has only been revealed as of the most recent chapters at the moment of typing this, so that would definitely be a spoiler.
Was the song playing for the Merry's Death not a thing in the JP original, or did he just choose not to comment on it? Here in the german dub, it played (a german rendition of) "Dear Friends" by TRIPLANE as they were saying Goodbyes to the Merry. And that friggin song might still be in the Top 3 of the songs that get me the most emotional.
lol anime wins-sees jet pistol again after so many times. 'thats got to be a new attack so fast it looks like it doesnt make contact' me- um thats the first attack luffy ever used in gear second against blueno and used it a few times, also all his jet attacks work that way, so fast u cant really see the contact. thats the point of the transformation
I want to spare you of feeling like you spoiled yourself. Those episodes you remember were not filler. Oda plays with the opening page to his chapters. Occasionally he will use them to fill you in on what’s going on with background characters. This was one of those arcs. The anime stopped including them after a while.
This is a spoiler for about 850 episodes from now actually it is only in manga at this point but that Jewel Tree Adam is not the tree from Ohara but actually the giant tree on War Land Elbaph the home country of the giants that's why the wood for the new ship is so amazing!!!
Oh the universal one piece fan indoctrination of crying about a ship... imagine telling the you before consuming OP that you would be mourning a ship in a manga/anime bless GOADA
Just a reminder that you can watch Parts 50 and 51 right now over on Patreon whilst also supporting the channel!

Proud member of the "Oda Made Me Cry Over a Boat" club.
Only the god of manga and anime Eichiro Oda himself could actually make you cry over a SHIP A fucking SHIP
Welcome to the "Crying over a boat" club.
Everyone cries for the the merry
For roughly 10 episodes
That wasn't filler. the Koby and Helmeppo story was a cover story. Unfortunately they stopped animating cover stories, so if other characters come back they have to explain on the spot what they've been up to.
@@vixevinweria8400 I want more of the cover stories. I mean come on; some villains get a degree of redemption. Gedatsu and Walpol come to mind.
Seeing this episode shortly after frankys Japanese Voice actor had retired hits differently
I cry every time Merry talks. EVERY TIME, no matter the medium.
every true fan gets tears from the Merry funeral. Even random people seeing that scene get emotional.
Merry the true hero of this arc,
The Sunny Will carry you to the end.
Welcome to the 'I cried over a boat' club, Man. Happy to have you with us.
The "filler" from 200 episodes ago was not only canon, but did not reveal that garp is luffy's grandpa
Welcome to the "Cried over a boat club"
in the manga, oda uses chapter covers to tell extra storys, the filler episode(s) with coby and helmeppo was told with the covers, same goes for how buggy got back his crew till he returned to logue town,
unfortantly they stoped turning cover storys into filler episodes, because its great additinal content, while most other filler suck
Fun fact, you said that koby and helmeppo were aged nicely but in actuality its cannonically only been around a month
28:20 While it wasn't revealed during the cover story adaptation, it was implied that he and Luffy had a connection when he overheard Coby talking about how great of a guy Luffy was.
5:50 Extra win: Rob Lucci picks Luffy up off the ground with his tail so Luffy cannot counter the tail grip like he did before.
I love the moment at 26:18 just because of how the editing makes it feel almost as though Franky is scolding our boi here for winning a scene in the middle of his story. lol
Like, "listen to me first before you praise me!"
"Is there anything he can't do?"
**Zoro immediately goes to fight the Rust Human**
That, that is something he can't handle
Man, everytime I see the Merry's Farewell scene, I can't help but tear up
Doesn't matter if it is in the anime or manga
You wouldn't know about the grandpa thing earlier than this, unless you watched the live action where they moved some of Garp's stuff around

I adore Garp. It's such a funny character who is the most hard person to work with as a coworker. And yet at the same time he's REALLY strong.
@28:09

Loved the video as always, can't wait for the big 50th ep!!!
The video I have been waiting for, because I needed to know how emotional he would get
Merry's funeral is literally the best moment in one piece, a perfect capstone to the peak arc in one piece.
5:43 Jet pistol is not a new move. In the manga, all gear 2 attacks are too fast to be seen, only leaving a smoke trail and an explosion of steam from where they started. This is just the anime paying homage to how it looks in the manga.
From 5:50 to THE Jet Gatling with the vicious, bloodcurdling, primal roar… chills down to my very soul every watch.
The second their escape ship blew up there were tears in my eyes cuz i knew what was coming. That noise, always puts tears in my eyes. The moment our friend comes to get us, i always cry. That moment is just so beautiful.
RIP merry. You Will never be forgotten
Watching these videos taking place in enies lobby while reading the current arc really makes these videos so much better.
When you realize Smoker knew 100% who Dragon was in Loguetown and didn't say anythig about it

I always cry at the Merry's Funeral, it's okay to do the same.
Luffy has a point they need a good helmsman in the future
So now Oda has made us cry over a bag of pet food, a whale, and a boat. The man is too powerful, he must be stopped!
I had noted in a txt to remind here of win 4527 in part 24 "But in adition, even though it's not real, i didn't like the ship getting destroyed, it's like one of the crew, don't do me like that!"

God damn that funeral for Merry gave me such a good cry.
I salute every time
I cried with them when i first saw this😢😢😢😢
Two things, firstly, Im go glad you made it through water 7 and loved it. I know it my, and many others favorite arcs and I still cannot believe Oda made me burst into tears for ship. Secondly... The Dragon glaze is real!!! MY FELLOW AGENDA PIECERS!!!
I promised myself I wouldn't cry over the Mary Funeral for the umpteenth time...
boys...
I couldn't keep that promise
loved this reaction arc

Looking forward to having you!

And once again I cry
btw, the jewel tree adam is very different to the tree that rested on ohara, and in completely different seas from what we know lol
I've been waiting for this video to see his reaction

Ah, you started crying early - I held out until Merry started to apologize 😢
11:36 Robin i love you, but put them gross things away 😂
This is gonna be amazing
HERE IT IS. HERE'S THE BIGGEST TEARJERKER IN THE WHOLE SERIES... in my opinion at least.
started crying at win 9511
It's so hilarious, Luffy and Chopper can't recognize Usopp with the mask despite him wearing the excite same clothes with the exact same gear. 🤣
. . . RIP Merry😭
ep 309 an all time fav

The moment that unified a fandom
the trap card has been activated.
One Piece is the best show ever made!!!
huge
the coby episode isn't filler.
Rest in piece to the goat (well it was a sheep technically)
lol anime wins-sees jet pistol again after so many times. 'thats got to be a new attack so fast it looks like it doesnt make contact'
