Watch the making of the Leica M9-P »Edition Hermès« -- Série Limitée Jean-Louis Dumas, introduced in Berlin at the "LEICA - DAS WESENTLICHE" on May 10, 2012.
This limited edition is a celebration of the friendship and collaboration between Jean-Louis Dumas, the former president of Hermès, who died in May 2010, and Leica Camera AG.
Even after more than 10 years, sometimes I'll just randomly think of this video and have the urge to watch it again

If it was a film camera then I would totally agree. Leica film cameras are timeless. Not so sure about digital ones though. As an investment, there are better vehicles to put your money.

As much as I love Leica (I have an M8), this is crazy. $50K for a camera? Ok, if this keeps Leica afloat to make cameras for the rest of us, so be it. But jeez, the M Monochrom costs MORE than a standard M9? I think the prices are going the wrong direction...

Gotta love German engineering and old world craftsmanship. That is the biggest reason I have a German car. You will never see a video like this from something made in China.
While you are carrying a 1DX and I can carry a Leica + 2 Lenses... It's not about the Tech Specs. It's not about comparing what's better. Everybody has their own set of tools. With Leica it's the whole package, it's a lifestyle.

Heh wow. thay can touch this camera every day. I wish i have someday my own mechanical Leica. I really love film camera but Leica is out of my range :) Maybe in long future i will buy some from discount or used for less price. But camera like this deserve to be expensive. Those people from Leica factory teserve to it.

The making of a such an expensive kit is important for the rich, and for Leica. It gives rich a proof that justifies why they are so rich. To Leica it gives a proof that there'll always be someone willing to appreciate one of a kind works of craftsmanship. Don't blame Leica for the sad fact that mad economies of scale have created a toxic economic climate in which dedicated craftsmanship is doomed to die. Ask that yourself every time you demand "a great camera for as cheap as it gets".

The best ASMR
Leica made the camera for particular people - Kai from DigitalRev is one of them. You obviously aren't one. "everyone thinks it's great simply because it's so rare and expensive" Ask Kai and every other owner why they bought theirs. It being rare and expensive just adds to its value. Consider also the fact that its hand crafted with immense precision. I'm a Canon owner but i still respect other cameras and their makers. Maybe you should too.
Back when I didn't even know what ASMR was. It all makes sense now.

I know someone who owns one of these exquisitely-crafted Hermes editions. The leather fell off the camera body after a few months of use. That's what he gets for using the damn thing. You're supposed to lock it in a display case and look at it. That's what it's for.

I'm a bit sick of this "Leica Social Club". Owning a Leica is starting to be kinda like playing golf, or sailing. This thing costs 50 thousand dollars. Most of the parts on this camera are made in Portugal and Japan, and then they proudly engrave "Made in Germany" on the thing. Capitalism is the dung of the devil.
