  • This is a step-by-step video detailing the disassembly and assembly of the 4th Generation Honda Goldwing down to the repair of the LCD screen. Includes years 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000. Along the way you’ll be able to see how to disassemble and reassemble the mirrors, windshield, temperamental and fragile dash, gauge and instrument cluster, LCD screen and headlight for replacing the headlights. This video doesn’t show how to replace the speakers or instrument cluster light bulbs because I forgot to film it, but the video will get you to the point in which you would be able to see the next steps to complete those tasks. Hope you enjoy. Please Like and Subscribe if you find this helpful or enjoyable. Thank you for watching, Bryan
    This video also includes: How to remove and install the seat, How to remove and install the plastics.

    Your video was so very helpful, it was the first time I have stripped the fairing off and delved deep under the skin of the bike, and I was terrified of doing it as it appears so complicated. With your helpful tips and guidance and the Haynes manual to help, I replaced the LCD screen, and whilst it was in bits I got the windscreen fixed so it was adjustable (mine was also stuck), also took the lower fairing off and replaced the cam belts, and checked the spark plugs, and replaced the coolant. I learned so much about this fabulous machine over the last two days. It is a marvel of engineering and mine is now 30 years old ! Amazing. Off on a three week tour of France next week, can’t wait 😀thanks for the video, and all that !!Paul, S.Wales, UK

    Service manual wants you too remove chrome cover, loosen 5 windshield height adjustment screws. Readjust windshield height, re-tighten 5 mounting screws, then replace chrome cover. I like your idea much better with flat spacer washer too allow easier shield adjustment. If it works well during road vibrations? Previous owner put wiper blade an power controller on my windshield. But road vibration put stress cracks along shield wiper holes. I made shield bottom template an cut an new bottom edge cutting out damaged areas in shield. Made shield shorter, I like that better too. Now not stress cracks!

      Thank you for watching. It didn’t make sense to us to have an adjustable windshield but have to take it apart each time. He hasn’t had any vibration problems. The wiper is interesting. Hadn’t thought about a wiper on it. Also, if you haven’t subscribed, please do. As we do more projects on our bikes I’ll get them uploaded. Thanks again. Ride safe.

    I can relate about screws tumbling down into unknown areas. I was working on my 1500GL ignition switch key too "on" position with no dash lights or power. You tube says check dog bone fuse next too battery, an mikes good. I checked relays an they are working by clicking sound. I giggled key in switch between access an on position. I got dash lights too flicker on. No luck spraying WD-40! So I sprayed carb/air filter cleaner into key switch along with WD-40, soaking switch below key tumbler. That was last night. Today I've got switch too function correctly for 50 times with no failures. So adding carb cleaner too switch along with WD-40 was successful in switch maintenance.

      That’s awesome. Perseverance and not giving up. Nice!! I’ve had to use contact cleaner on many of the switches on my bike and also took apart the cruise control switch and had to clean out the old Honda grease as it had hardened in there and couldn’t get to it with the contact cleaner. Thanks for watching and I’d you haven’t subscribed, please do. As we work in other projects I’ll get them uploaded. I hope your switch keeps on good behavior and safe riding!!

    Thanks for your video! It gave me the info and courage to proceed with the daunting disassembly task. I've just finished installing the new screen from Tanin. I bought the bulb as well, but am unsure as to where the two smaller ones go. The larger bulbs are the 3.4W of which there are only 4, so those are obvious. Can you shed some light on what the wattage is for the two smaller included bulbs is and where they go? Thanks again!

      Hi there. Thank you for the kind words and I'm pleased to hear that my video helped you. I couldn't remember exactly where the bulbs went, but I was able to Google "1995 Goldwing Dash Lights" and saw a few sites like Ebay where they show the bulbs and approximate locations. The comments box won't let me copy a screenshot of it into this thread. I'll do my best to explain it. 4 big bulbs go (@ 30 mph, @ 130 mph, @ 0 RPM, @ 4500 RPM) the two smaller bulbs go direct center of instrument cluster, 1 bulb above LCD and 1 bulb below LCD. I'm not sure of the wattage for the bulbs. Again, thanks again for the comments and watching. Great work taking on the task!! Ride Safe!!

      Thank you Shin for watching and the kind comment. Yes this was our first time, but the company we purchased the LCD from had great instructions as well. They only showed the LCD portion. We wanted to show from begging to end. If you haven’t subscribed yet, please do as you’ll likely find other videos that pertain to that bike that may be interesting or helpful to you. Again thanks and ride safe!!

    I'm wondering where you're getting gl1500 parts? Im having trouble with key ignition switch? Any ideas as to where i could find parts?

    • @whatsbryanupto
      @whatsbryanupto  Місяць тому

      Thank you for asking. Most of the time we find the parts doing a Google search or on eBay. I found what you might be looking for on eBay. In the search bar on eBay, copy and paste this:
      New Genuine OEM Honda GL 1500 Goldwing Ignition Switch Barrel with Key 1990-2000
      Hope that might give you a starting place. Thank you for watching and Ride Safe!!

      @@whatsbryanupto thank you so much for information on parts for GL 1500 GW. Do you know the meaning of GL in GL1500? "Grand Luxury"! They do live up to they name, they are Grand an they are luxurious! For your comparison,I bought my 88' GW during covid lockdown for $1800. It was showroom ready with new tire, better suspension, airbrush paint scene on the luggage boxes! Only problem now is biden's inflated cost of fuel at $6 here in Washington State. I can't enjoy being hammered on fuel prices to entertain myself!?

    What is the actual time for this procedure?

    • @whatsbryanupto
      @whatsbryanupto  Рік тому +2

      I would say one to two days depending on your experience taking apart your bike and mechanical abilities. It took us two days because we were filming, trying to take our time and get deliberate camera angles. We also accidentally installed the LCD in upside down so that took time to correct and also dropped that screw which took another hour or more to find. Hope that helps. By the way, thank you for watching. Also, if you haven’t subscribed, please do as we’ll upload more videos as we do more projects on that bike. Ride safe!!
