  • If you're just learning to play piano, or you're a seasoned player and looking for a new 88 key keyboard, don't pass off the M-Audio Hammer 88 Pro just because it's a controller! In this video I talk about using the M-Audio Hammer 88 Pro standalone without any DAW and taking advantage of the included virtual instruments such as the Mini Grand (Piano sounds), Hybrid (Synth sounds), and the Velvet (Electric Piano sounds).
It's as simple as plugging the Hammer 88 Pro into the computer and pulling up the plugins to jump right in and start playing! Regardless of whether you're a beginner just starting out and want something that is going to grow with you, or if you're a pro player that is looking for something to expand on, in my opinion the M Audio Hammer 88 Pro is a great option to just plug and play, but also have the ability to learn computer recording and DAW's as you grow!

That’s why I’m considering Arturia cause it comes with so many sounds. ALmost 7000 sounds in Analog Lab.

Consider getting the Studiologic SL88 Grand Hammer Action keyboard contoller. It's a lot better key bed than any of the others. If you're worried about sounds there are plenty of free to use DAWS that come with many sounds that you can play around with until you want to get some libraries for yourself.

While the Hammer 88 Pro comes with thousands of sounds in the included virtual instruments, the controller isn't necessarily integrated with the plugin like the Arturia controller is. It comes down to what you're looking at for instruments and how important the integration is to you. Did you choose one yet?

Thx DSundman. Wish I’d known this was coming down the pipeline before I bought my Arturia Keylab Essential 88. I know it’s about $400 more, but I’m not really a big fan of Analog Lab, (I’ve got vst’s galore already). I wondered why Arturia didn’t include a great standalone piano that didn’t attempt to sell you something while downloading and installing. Way of the world I guess. Subscribed!

Really helpful demo re the use of the Hammer 88 Pro's built-in features. Mention of the Focusrite DI to reduce latency was also helpful. Turns out I have a Focusrite 4i4 but was failing to take advantage of it by connecting my MIDI controller through my laptop's sound card. Switching to the Focusrite audio input resulted in a snappier response. BTW, my Hammer 88 Pro is due to arrive tomorrow!

Hi there.. I had a Korg Pa 700 before.. as a matter of fact I'm totally a beginner in music world but I love to learn how to produce music like in the movies.. I am good in digital world as a graphic artis so I'm thinking of buying M Audio Oxygen 61 to start learing music digitally with the aid of pc. As I said before.. I found Korg Pa 700 much hard to deal with in addition to it's weight and volume, therefore I am thinkg of M Audio 61 to start over. So if you have any advice I'll be gratefull. Thanks for the awosome video.

I want to split layer piano with Hammond B3 in the left hand with octave and level control and sustain pedal and everything a Hammond B3 does. Then I want to layer piano and a bright electric piano in the right hand. Maybe add strings or pads left hand. Can I do that with the M-Audio Hammer 88 Pro. What other DAWs would do this..

I just got a Stage 3 and when I midi'd it from my Yamaha KX88, I was surprised to see that it was the same as if I was playing the Nord with 88 keys. But my Yamaha weighs a ton and does not work for playing out. Will the M-Audio work without being connected to a computer and work as a controller for the Nord?

Hey Marco! I actually find that with my laptop, the ASIO4ALL driver is a little bit slower than my computers normal sound card driver, at least in the few times I’ve tried it. I was under the impression that this midi-controller came with 3 preset patches onboard. you just plug its output to your speaker and your off entertaining. This would be the definition of "stand-alone". If you also need a modern computer & software of sounds VIA a mini or sub DAW just to get a "peep" out of an M-Audio 88 midi-controller makes the product "not stand-alone" but actually will cost me about $1,000 more to hear a sound. Stand -alone claim is misleading, you cant use this product alone to make sound. Please just market truthfully. I own and use a 66es and an 88es Key station by M-Audio and I love this product for live & recording projects but always knew I needed at least an iPad Pro😊 or iPhone (computers) to get a sound to speakers. Speakers? Oh just another exspense that is unesessary if your keyboard is "Stand-alone". I think were all in need of more truth lately and I appreciate being able to comment. Thank you.
