For $1000+, 40-50kwh battery is unacceptable. What is the point of being portable but still need to be connected to power plug? Might as well get a laptop.
I bought an Ally X like 2 days ago after watching your comparison between it and the Steam Deck OLED. OLED is nice, but VRR is huge IMO. My primary monitor for my desktop is a 1440p 165hz OLED display, and it's beautiful, but I'd rather have smooth gameplay than beautiful visuals on a handheld. Too much stuttering or screen tearing ruins the experience for me. I cant say Im sad that I missed out on this one. The Ally X is a beast.
I just returned mine and it felt like a piece of me is missing. However I’m waiting on the new Lenovo cuz of the detachable controllers, kick stand, and the oled screen rumored to be in the next one.
@@8bitchiptune420 You can still get tearing even if youre fps is locked and capped lol. Plus vsync isnt the best option for many games since it does introduce a bit of input lag.

I ordered one then cancelled my order just before it shipped thankfully. Newer handhelds will be coming with 80 Wh batteries like the Claw Ai. The new mobile chips should be announced at CES next week too. Buying a handheld now is a pure waste of money
Great review, love your channel been watching it for around a year now. I still like my rog ally x better, the vrr and big battery are so important to me. Hope you keep growing this year my dude.
OLED is super nice but on a handheld, I personally think it's hard to justify OLED over VRR. VRR helps modern games look smooth. If you're not playing many modern games, than a Steam Deck OLED is not only cheaper but also includes working HDR. If someone is paying for a new handheld PC at these prices I'd assume they want to play games the Steam Deck can't play reasonably, which means VRR on the MSI Claw 8 and ROG Ally and X will make a bigger difference for handheld play.
you can go around the lack of VRR by locking the frame rate. If you can’t lock the fps to something acceptable(40@120,48@144,60@120 etc), I would just not play it then. You can’t go around the lack of OLED. An IPS will not look as good no matter what you do.
My issue with the new HX370 devices is that performance isn’t quite as big of a bump as I had hoped. I have a Win Mini and Ally X. Of the Win Mini 2025 can fix a lot of my issues with the current Mini devices I might jump since I prefer the smaller size. If the battery has to be small, the device has to match.
No and it's already outdated in a sence from the get go...anything in these handhelds isnt future proof. Not at all...gaming is more about GPU not so much CPU except for emulation, all of these handhelds have that problem. The Z1 extreme in the Rog Ally and Legion Go is roughly equivalent to a RTX 1650 GPU....we're about ready to have the RTX 5050. Do the math....its weak shit in these handhelds....this console is more powerful then the Z1 yea but it's still not close to a RTX 3050 even....I wouldn't pay anywhere near that price for something non future proof. Even if you can connect external EGPU and all that, its nonsense have to carry that around too...just buy a 4060 laptop for cheaper and call it a day, it'll crush any handheld on the market. The value for money just isn't in these things
I appreciate the review, with all the groups I’m in - they’re constantly bragging about the device as it’s superior and flawless. However I think they’re just trying to convince themselves they didn’t make a bad purchase
I have the EVA 64gb/4tb version. The red really pops. The gold buttons are the real cherry on top. But yes after 20 mins of BO6 on 20 watt the screen is worryingly hot and the battery drops to 70 percent. It does have charge bypass if you want to protect battery which is what i find myself mostly doing if im home. If im at work or the train, i play 3 matches and put it away as to not cook it. Playing it outdoors sub 20 degrees keeps it very cool. Just warm those fingers with the exhaust vent that should still be blowing hellfire out of it. Size of handheld is perfect in palm, OLED is color rich. And its just a joy to look at (EVA version) so i still love it. Those reasons and the premium price tag are why ill always love that lil red baby.
Glad to see a balanced review/first look that's not just glazing the device because of better performance, a lot of the videos I've seen just gloss over everything else (small battery, temperatures, lack of VRR, how big is the performance boost really, should you actually buy this vs. an Ally X, etc.). At the end of the day this thing is almost double the price of the Ally X, and it just isn't worth it from what I've seen imo. In 6 months we'll see an Ally 2 with this same chipset that will be $300-500 cheaper. To me it seems to me these Chinese companies pump these out as quickly as possible to capitalize on the whole "best in class on the market" label, slapping a fat price tag on it in order to get people to buy out of FOMO. It's the same as what phone companies do really, put out something new every year to capitalize on people who just want the newest, most powerful thing and don't take the time to do comparisons vs. older generations. Looking forwards to the full review!
Great, honest review. This clearly isn’t worth it for such a small performance increase at the cost of battery and massive heat. It sounds like the ZE2 will be the one to go for, as all this high-powered CPU is a waste in a hand-held. On a side note, I’d love it if they invented a true VRR OLED screen, or if frame gen became so good you wouldn’t be bothered by the authentic frames getting skipped.
In my opinion as a person who does daily drive the legion go I would just wait for the legion go two to be announced ( i believe it's being announced at ces) simply because it's gonna be cheap oled it's gonna have the z2 extreme witch in all reality is probably gonna be faster then the f1 pro but it also has its cons it's made by lenovo witch in my opinion if feels like the give up on the thing at times but simply my opinion
Looks really cool but the price and not having a 80 WH battery is a big no for me. Every PC handheld moving forward should have an 80 WH battery in it. There’s no excuse for it. Might as well wait to see what gets announced at CES.
As someone with an oled monitor im really apprehensive about my ayaneo slide coming in. Im so afraid im going to hate the display and its just gonna collect dust. I cant wait for the days where my "s27 ultra" can slap into a grip dock and just play pc games.
Have you tried turning off CPU turbo boost?. That should lower the temps by 10c and only lower the avg fps by approximately 5% If I owned this handheld, I wound drill more ventilation holes on the back cover.
I regret getting into the handheld arena. My rog ally z1 extreme right joystick has gone haywire and now I gotta send it off for for RMA and have not for a while or just keep on trucking with it while using an Xbox controller, i am currently leaning towards the latter. I just wanted to play warzone between my handheld and my RM 9S Pro and level up quicker since the lobbies are so hard to do on WZ. Sure I'm not the best gamer but I have fun regardless.
I agree with you, latency and smooth gamimg is important than couple of FPS increase. VRR is important on handheld. Waiting for the MSI claw 8. how I wish it has the AMD and 2280 drive.
I bought a OneX Player 2 and then a ROG Alley Z1 Extreme the following year... and I feel dumb for think the ROG was going to be a significant jump lol the Alley X came out soon after and now we have this OneX Player and then will have another ROG Alley by the end of the year. saying stronger than 'x' device always means higher price than that 'x' device. handheld PCs are going high in prices to the point they are competing with a gaming laptop which is way superior imo. Also, this device has half the battery of an Ally X, so no thanks.

There is a version of this pro model with an 8,000 series chip that costs $999. I have used a device with a current gen chip & 32 gigs of RAM, which is what that device has. It’s crazy powerful, but the one I have doesn’t have OLED & it’s 60 hertz & that xfly pro with the current chip is 144 hertz. Basically, I’m saying the $999 version is worth the price & no doubt it’s a beast. The $1350 version is excessive & overpriced. Just get that one they are selling for $999. IMO - Don't purchase any of these devices until their all out. I suspect MSI (and others) are rushing their new handhelds out because they won't compete or perform better than the rest. Even for the anticipated Legion Go 2, it better have, at minimum, a 30+ FPS difference compared to their previous device. A 5-10+ FPS difference isn't going to cut it. Battery life requires a nice boost for all all devices (although I won't hold my breath, especially after purchasing a Meta Quest 3 and seeing how quickly the battery life drains away and how they collect more cash on extended batteries).
you're dreaming if you're thinking 30fps increase is on the cards. more likely a 5-10% performance increase, with a slight decrease in power consumption - which will likely get chewed up by the OLED. I do want OLED on the Go 2 though. Battery size increase is likely to be small too, Li-Ion battery density is basically fixed, there's not much room for increase.
Your complaint about heat. You need to understand that there is a direct correlation between energy and heat. I try to play at 15-20W on Legion Go. There is no escaping that heat is the byproduct of energy use. The only way to solve it is more efficient chips that can maintain performance with low wattage. Better cooling will not solve it.
I stopped watching after 30 seconds. Almost half of your right hand is hanging off the side. The ergonomics are awful, I can already tell. That and the price and battery are awful. Wait for CES. Should see some interesting handhelds soon
30W? The performance between 20-30 falls off so you are not getting much gain in performance while you are using much more battery and getting more heat. The performance at lower watts is the good thing about the chip in this. They say around 20W is ideal.
that's the sweet spot, generally 15-20W and tune the game settings down from there to maintain workable framerate. Also not locking the framerate is just wasted energy. I tend to play at 48fps.
I like it but the screen size is too small and it's way too expensive like ridiculously expensive for something that small...... I mean don't get me wrong some of the hardware on it is good but like I said for the price that's a no-go
Don’t agree, it is quite noticeable, even more so than Oled Imo. I was quite disappointed once I got the steam deck oled and I keep reaching for the Ally.
For $1000+, 40-50kwh battery is unacceptable. What is the point of being portable but still need to be connected to power plug? Might as well get a laptop.

7" OLED is nice, but.... Poor speakers. Poor battery. Terrible right thumbstick placement. Janky software. Solid video, but hard pass.
windows, no touchpad, shit battery,
30W? The performance between 20-30 falls off so you are not getting much gain in performance while you are using much more battery and getting more heat. The performance at lower watts is the good thing about the chip in this. They say around 20W is ideal.
I’m gonna try that out brb
that's the sweet spot, generally 15-20W and tune the game settings down from there to maintain workable framerate. Also not locking the framerate is just wasted energy. I tend to play at 48fps.
Bro just get xreal glasses. The screens on these handhelds are fucking tiny.
See my last video….
You just said it. It's a damn Handheld my dude, not a plasma 50 inch TV. How is it people like you still don't understand this concept?
@@MarluxiaX2 there's a lack of cognitive function in all these people, like saying "It needs a 99wh battery".
This is way overpriced
Looks like the ergonomie is absolute bullshit, dont cramp your hands? Wtf
More powerful but consume more battery. 👎👎👎
I advise everyone to skip
This device, battery life is bad and overpriced no thanks

I like it but the screen size is too small and it's way too expensive like ridiculously expensive for something that small...... I mean don't get me wrong some of the hardware on it is good but like I said for the price that's a no-go
How did you have so much money to buy one lol
claw will work worse on old games. intel drivers. id say go amd.
VRR is overrated
Don’t agree, it is quite noticeable, even more so than Oled Imo. I was quite disappointed once I got the steam deck oled and I keep reaching for the Ally.
@@Sumire9287 delulu you prob dont even know how to activate VRR
