SSFR - Reported Structure Fire *Helmet Cam*

SSFR was dispatched in the afternoon hours for a reported residential structure fire. Response view is from Engine 128. Rescue 115 arrived on scene shortly after the dispatch to find a single wide mobile home with smoke showing from the eaves. Upon further investigation, firefighters found an extinguished exterior fire on the C-Side of the residence with possible extension into the void space between the ceiling and roof. Firefighters checked the interior of the residence for extension as well as performing overhaul on the exterior to check for any hotspots. Multiple hotspots were found in the void space with the use of the TIC. Firefighters opened up the ceiling in the kitchen, laundry room, and adjoining hallway to extinguish all hotspots. The cause was determined to be a grass fire caused by a cigarette that had spread into the structure. The exterior fire was extinguished prior to FD arrival by the occupant of the home. One minor injury was reported on scene. Firefighters were on scene for three hours before returning to service.

SSFR is a combination department in East Alabama running with a 24/7 paid EMS crew, and a paid Fire Officer Monday - Friday during business hours with volunteer firefighters completing staffing during all hours of the day and night. SSFR runs approximately 2800 emergency calls annually.
