I noticed something was peculiar noticing the gates were removed from the crossing protection devices on Queenston Street but realize the line was in the state of abandonment. The rail head along the route were quite rusted. I am glad I found your video.

Ah yeah. I just saw that the other day.
It definitely ruin my day as I was still working on finishing this video.
I didn't want change anything in video to reflect that, because I didn't want to remove the mystery of the Grantham Spur future.
However now that I've seen the gates off at Quenston Ave R&R crossing
I'm also certain the tracks will be lifted up sooner then I thought initially.
I heard that CN had brought up some flat cars to Trenergy recently too to load up some heavy equipment to transfer to their new location in Thorold South.
I imagine the tracks will come up after the transfer is completed.

I agree. With just one customer remaining, the line as you said isn't profitable and doesn't appear that it will be in the future. I can see the rail being lifted sooner than later.
I also crossed the Canal Subdivision at Highway 20 and those tracks look like they hasn't seen a train in a long time.

@@-smokem If I'm thinking about the correct area. This would be the line that leads into St. Catherines Merriton yard. This was the route Gio Railway takes when it goes to service St. Catherines, but soon after this last day the entire has been block from about hwy 41 since. The only way I think it could survive is if metrolinx somehow gobbles it up. If were to decide to extend it route from St. Catherines to Welland. Of course that's just a railroad fantasy and don't believe it will happen.

The NS&T lines die a little each day. The line in your video is not far from where I live so I know the area well. Excellent work on the video, I might add.
Metrolinx wouldn't have an interest to serve Welland - not enough ridership for them to be remotely interested.

It was truly something watching Trillium preform the operations I’d seen them do multiple times for the final time. Seeing them Serve Kemeria for the first time was almost like a final spike. (Disregarding what happened after that lol)

No matter how well you prepare for something like this. Like you know that any point in time you can see this ending well, but when it's over you can't believe that it's actually over. Athough I had watch videos in the area from 20-30 year earliers. You wouldn't believe how big and busy these railroad networks were, but some how they're were still not making enough from servicing these lines. Then I think if they keep cutting these lines who are they going to service then in 20-30 years from now. You can only keep cutting for so long before you realize there will be no railways in 20-30 years from now.

Pretty nice Leap Day railroad footage! Too bad about the Gio Railway in Canada. It was cool, wasn't it?

Actually Gio Railway is going strong. They have expanded into other areas in Ontario and were able to concentrate more of their customers base in one area. The big black eye here is for St.. Catherines as they lost their only local railroad operator not to mention a part of their railroad indentity. If anything it seems like a good place to maybe start a railway museum before it's all gone.

So is this the end of GIO in St. Catherines, or is it the end of GIO period?

It's just the end of Gio Railway in St. Catherines. They still have a strong presences in Welland, Port Colborne and Thorold South. But there is about 12 miles of tracks between St. Catharines and Welland that are now out of service.
