Dear Kriksis! I hope you are well! Thank you so much for sharing this video. I have also mixed a small palette with gouache colours for on the go. Unfortunately some of them are broken after they have dried. Next time I will mix in some gum arabic to help prevent from cracking. We are travelling to Cornwall tomorrow:). I'm really looking forward to filling my sketchbook with new motifs. Take care! I wish you all the best.Gabi:) Nature's palette!:))
Lovely colors! Thank you for sharing your mixing technique. I learn a lot watching you make your muted tones. It looks so beautiful and green where you were painting. 😊 Nature's palette 🌿🎨
Nature’s palette! I was staring at my computer trying to figure out what gouache paint to get, I’ve never used it before so I was unsure how to build a palette. I suddenly thought, I bet Kriksis has a video on this and sure enough you did! It was so helpful. Thank you.
Totally drinking rooibos and mixing gouache pans at the same time 😹 I like to use a palette knife and a waxed paper mixing palette to mix my colors and then put them in the pan- so much easier!
yay! I have used palette knife in the past, there is gouache mixing video from 3 years ago where I did that, but thought to try this method this time.(I have a link to that video in description) I agree with you that is easier. :)
Loved this video so much! I mixed a few gouache colours myself last week, for the first time, for my own mini palette, and I was hoping one of my favourite artist’s would give me even more inspiration-and you did. I mixed some colours again with you today, so thank you! I loved the natural tones you chose to include 🤍✨
Nature's palette, and indeed you created one, The Art Toolkit Palettes aresuch a great little piece of travelling/studio kit I have several of them now. I love mixing tinted blacks and greys,I have a whole palette of these colours. But will definitly try the mix of ultramarine and yellow ochre. Orange would not normally come to mind as a mixing colour, but it works so well. I loved the tiny sketchbook you painted in in the garden, which looks really amazing too really green and full of spring life. (matt) P.s dagger brushes can create interesting marks too.
Thank you Matt! Now I want to get folio and Demi palette too ;D just one for watercolours and other for more gouache. That sounds like lovely palette you have! I mix secondary colours (orange, green and purple) for quicker mixing, but I guess it's not necessary. :) Yes, I think it was inspiring to be surrounded by greenery.
@@kriksis thank you Kriksis,I have several of the folio art toolkit pallettes.I have two main watercolour pallets which I change twice a year, and also a palette of Metallics as well and I mix my own metallic colours too,I do mix with purples too (Matt)
Really interesting to see you mix your own gouache colours. I have some gouache tubes I haven't touched for about 2 years because the colours are too garish. Thanks for sharing a great idea.
Nature’s palette!❤ Loved every second of this ❤ I too have been mixing my own colors for my new palette setup. I was so scared doing it but seeing you now gave me the courage to just continue.. xx ❤
lovely palette colors! I enjoyed watching you mix these with such ease- color mixing is an art in itself and you do it so well 🧡 I am going to make a mix of that ultramarine and yellow ochre for my palette- its so gorgeous! ✨
Natures palette! Oh man, this video came at the perfect time! Im about to head out on a weekend camping trip, and I wanted to get inspired to use my art tool kit demi gouache palette before I went! Such a relaxing beautiful video! And your palette is gorgeous! (I also have a Sendak mini pouch so that was fun to see too)
Thank you for kind comment! Demi palette looks like fun one to have, so tiny, lightweight, perfect for traveling. Yay, high five! Next video will be about the Sendak roll. :)
Hi Kriksis, when i fill my pocket palette, I take the pans out and put them on the back of a large fridge magnet so I have space to handle them but they don't get knocked around. Maybe you will find that helpful, as they are so fiddly
thanks for watching :) Surprisingly I didn't buy more traditional gouache, I guess it's because I mixed primaries together since the early days. But usually if I am into something or discovering something I want to buy everything. So I understand the urge! :D
The only watercolour I mix myself ahead of time is my own version of Jane's grey. Over ten years ago, Jane Blundell shared her own mix, which I copied. Daniel Smith now has it in premixed tubes, that Jane uses, but I find it too cool a grey. So I stil mix it myself. Otherwise, for watercolour and gouache, I mix on the palette. I do have two Art tool kit palettes (but around 2013-ish) but I don't use them often. I use the Daler-Rowney 1/4 pan palette instead, with a mix of brands in it.
I love Ultramarine and Burnt Sienna combo! :) Thank you for sharing how you use gouache and watercolour, and what kind of palette you use, it's so interesting to hear how we all use art supplies. :)
