Worth mentioning that the late great Willie Mosconi did in fact consult for The Hustler. Additionally, I've seen it mentioned (though I can't provide a source) that every shot other than the weird masse shot in the film was executed by the actors. Mosconi also toured demonstrating several shots he set up for the film, including the "cheater" shot.
Quick "Pool/Job hire" story. I was playing a guy in a bar. He kept coming at me with distractions, money, raising the amounts the whole 9 yards. During our sets he decided to distract me with a lot of questions. One of the questions: "So what do you do when you're not shooting pool?" I replied with, "it's mostly pool right now as i'm in between jobs". He asked "what do you do?" I said "I'm a professional truck driver" He asked "you any good though?" As I was potting the Eight for yet another 100$ game, "yeah!" His response "Well, you cleaned me out of my pocket stash, while stating you were a good pool player, so I can only assume you are as good at driving . . so you're hired!" I looked at him all confused. He replied "I own a trucking company, you can start Monday if you want a job" :)

She is right about Southwest cue. I personally had 3 of them, one from 1985 (Jerry Franklin era), one from 2009 and one from 2014, but I sold the last 2 already. The waiting list on those cues are ridiculously insane, my buddy ordered one since 2009 and still didn't get it. And they are one of these cues that hold value very well on the market (especially Franklin era, or ebony nose ), also not cheap either, u won't find one for less than $3000. Still, it's not about the cue, it all depends on who's holding it. And there are alot of cue makers that can make cues as good as Southwest for way cheaper.

He didn't just foul, he cheated. The cue tip is only allowed to hit the cue ball no matter what game you are playing. His cue tip hits the striped ball, and the striped ball sends the object ball into the pocket. Hand faster than the eye.

Paul Newman sequence aka the Chad effect : "Thats not a legal shot" "He didn't make that shot for sure" "He has a decent form" Few seconds later "He looks so great that's the best pool movie of all time"
Not sure I understand the Chad reference with Newman and if I am being a prick wondering this. However....I have a question on a "legal shot" in Pool Hall Junkies - about 11 minutes into the movie. Skimmed this video, and did not see it talked about here, asked in another thread and no answer. If you or anyone feels like answering, it was the 8ball wired to the cue ball next to corner pocket. Looked like he double tapped the cue tip to the cue ball at least once and pushed it into the corner. One day I shall find this answer damnit! Can provide time stamp to the movie if needed fwiw.

I really hope so. In nearly every sport, there can be entertaining debates as to who is the best ever, but Willie Mosconi is the greatest pool player to ever live & Wayne Gretzky is the greatest hockey player.
