Hey tennis fam! What’s the best tennis movie and which other tennis player deserves to have their own movie?

An open stance is also good if you are playing against power hitters. Where you will not get the opportunity to turn hips/body.

Thank you! Yeah, they mentioned some of it briefly in the film like his son that no one knew about. Real life is always messier than the movies unfortunately 😩

According to Steve Smith of GreatBase the movie was unfair to and kinda did a hit job on the late Vic Braden, Steve worked for Braden and was around at the time so he would know better than I, I have not seen the movie yet, I do know that Vic was extremely positive and helpful to everyone! He was an extraordinary gentlemen and a wonderful person. I loved the man. RIP Vic

I've heard that from a few different people. Seems like the film took liberties and made changes to some of the events shown. Any big Hollywood biopic needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

First of all sorry for my english because Im a french speaker😅
I think you are getting wrong about what you think the movie get wrong because you are taking it as a tennis documentary when its the Williams sisters history...1- The movie isnt telling people that Junior tour is Evil, the movie is showing how Richard Williams saw the junior tour wich for him wasnt a good place for Kids the question isnt about if he was right or wrong but how he saw it. In fact the strategy worked for his girls so we can say he was right. 2- About the training in the rain once again they are not telling people to go out and train in the rain, they are showing what Richard was doing with his Kids and same goes with the open stance, Venus and Serena are the first players to Master the open stance and the movie is just showing how Richard put it in place.
Like I was saying its a movie based on a true story its not a documentary called "how the become as succesfull as the Williams sisters"😅
Anyway thanks, I watched to movie and as an absolute Williams's fan I loved it

Thanks for your comment Chris! I just figured that a lot of people that don’t know much about tennis might watch the movie and get a misguided view of what pursing a career as a tennis player is like so I wanted to show another point of view. Hopefully will result in more people joining the sport! Merci encore 😄

I think your criticism of what the movie got “wrong” missed the point of this being a movie about Richard and his coaching. The movie wasn’t portraying the open stance as a great thing. But Richard was pushing it constantly against the advice of the actual pros and arguing with those who were trying teach his girls. The movie didn’t suggest Richard was right - just stubborn. The same is true of hitting in the rain. Richard was teaching that - not the pro teachers. A movie doesn’t get something wrong for showing what Richard did. His girls were executive producers so I assume they agreed with this portrayal of their dad’s teaching. Finally, your lens as a white boy playing juniors in Canada is not going to be similar of a black family from Compton showing up at elite CA clubs. I imagine they saw and felt things in that context that were far different than what you experienced. The movie is telling their story - not commenting generally and most coaches argued with Richard that he should embrace the benefits of junior tournaments- as you also do. But he wouldn’t listen.
