This is Australia's only surviving B-24 Liberator; and the only B-24 (currently) in the Southern Hemisphere.
The RAAF Consolidated B-24 Memorial Restoration is located in Werribee, south west of Melbourne.
The Liberator is a converted B-24M, with the addition of a search radar, and subsequently re-designated as a B-24R (details available on the B-24 Liberator Restoration website).
Also located within the hangar is the airframe for a CAC Boomerang, undergoing restoration; and, the beginnings of an Airspeed Oxford replica.
The B-24 Liberator is undergoing restoration, and the hangar is a workshop with associated noises and equipment.
The easiest method of transport access the site is by car. Public transport is possible: catch a train to Werribee station, then catch a bus followed by a short walk to the restoration hangar (Google's directions will provide the options).
This is not a sponsored video.
I am not affiliated with the B-24 Liberator Memorial Restoration.

I have family who live in Werribee and I've been there several times and didn't know anything about this museum and would have loved to visit.

No problems, Paul. I know the video is very much an amateur production but I hope it highlights the amazing work is doing for the B24.

G'day from the old country. A lot of people would love to see this national treasure fly one day but I expect she's too precious for that. You guys have done a top flight job of restoring her for the generations and with the passing of time maybe even more stories about her will come out of the ethereal. Well done for the video. JD.

G'day Normo. It was great to watch this video and I would like to thank you for the many photos you've sent me from this museum. PS, the Museum's DH Dragon Rapide aircraft starred in the movie Flight into Hell.

This is in one the hangers on Geelong Road that were built in Ww2 . My dad did explain what was there but I forgot. So glad they have a plane in one, instead of hay bales. They have been there a long time & will survive a lot longer. There is no Airstrip there for those that are wondering.

I wonder where this B-24 was originally built? My mom worked for Consolidated Aircraft at the Ft. Worth, Texas plant in 1943. It may be one of hers!

According to the website, Pacific Wrecks, the fuselage for this particular Liberator was built in San Diego (pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/b-24/A72-176.html). The wings are from a US Army airframe, one that crashed in Papua New Guinea during 1943 (pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/b-24/42-41091.html).

Great work on the B24! Is the restoration to make the aircraft airworthy?

I don't believe so but could easily be wrong. They have 5 operational engines that currently aren't fitted. The airframe can be supported by its own undercarriage.

Any chance this old girl will actually fly or forever have her wings clipped and be static ?

    • @travelphotos7662
      @travelphotos7662  2 роки тому +1

I'm uncertain about flying again. I would have said not. However, they do have 5 operational engines (not fitted) and the aircraft is capable of supporting itself on its own undercarriage.

I wonder if this magnificent aircraft will help liberate the Australians from the tyranny of their own government?

Yeah. I do apologise for the music. It was the "best' free music I could find. I didn't feel the background audio was suitable - there were workshop noises I would have happily retained but, for the most part, wasn't suitable. Sorry.
